Reddit refugee looking for a better alternative.

Moved to Fediverse to get away from the data hoarding and selling that those types of companies partake in. Really hope most instances will defederate from threads and prevent Meta from collecting more data.

With high enough voltage everything becomes conductive.

Current world politicians are so tech illitirare it's bewildering. Supposedly they have experts and think tanks at their disposal to help them in these sorts of endeavours, for what? It's insane how much survailance has been ranked up in the past decade.

I'm a guy and I wouldn't be able to live like this.

  • Use a mail forwarding service to generate disposable e-mails used to sign up, if you accidentally give it to someone else it doesn't expose any other accounts and can be easily replaced by a new one.
  • Use a password manager to ensure a strong and unique password.
  • Use a JavaScript blocker so you only allow the required JavaScript to make the website work and prevent automatic downloads.

I've been doing these in general recently and it's good privacy a security practice. Also slowly replacing my main e-mail address in different service accounts with disposable forwarding e-mail addresses.

Edit: Other than that read a bit more about Lemmy and fediverse workings, verify what instance you're viewing and navigate to the desired community via your instance as others have mentioned.

A shitshow! /s

Yes they both use ActivityPub to broadcast interactions to other instances.

Switch to graphene OS

Using K-9 and quite liking it, otherwise just browse F-droid everything there is Foss.

Does it really matter? So long as they remain federalized you can still access and interact with those instances.

Or it could just require you to set up your login on your instance in the settings and then work as a regular share button

Thanks for the tip! I might just create a kbin account for this purpose.

Do we really need more beans? If we keep this going there won't be enough beans in the world to serve lemmings craze for beans

Well if the app is actively maintained the code is checked every time someone makes a push request to the main code base. You still have to trust the managers of the repository (code base) to verify every push request thoroughly, however, it's in the best interest of the repository managers to do so to maintain trust in the project and it's users.

Yes! Just downloaded a client for it and can't wait to try it!

Cause I tried so hard ...

one caveat is the need for *rr apps to have direct access to the storage filesystem, and not connect through some filesharing protocol (smb, NFS, etc..) afaik. ISCSI might be good since it's presented as an actual system drive, speculating.

Thanks, language confusion

I guess you're right, it's just frustrating this world.

Unfortunately, there's a majority of people posting without exhausting their research so unless you mention in your post what you have done, anyone else can't assume anything at the risk of providing unhelpful info. "Assumption is the mother of all fuckups."

There's already lots of comments but suite interested un Sigma if anyone ils willing to upvote me!

Thanls OP for thé giveaway!

IRC was fun, then people chose corporate poisoned simplicity (AOL, MSN) and that spelt the doom for protocols, until now.

Look for them, a lot of those reddit communities have been set up on lemmy as well.

This is posted twice

Do you think this sort of script could be integrated within apps to get automatics redirection to communities so that they open directly in the app rather than redirecting to the original instance and opening in browser?

As I recall they both have hall effect joystick, not sure about the triggers but I know that the KKP2's triggers are hall effect.

King Kong 2 both pro and non-pro have HE sticks and triggers, I've got a KK2P and that's the reason I wanted one. 8bitdo don't seem to mention it on their website but I remember the release press articles mentioning some recent model coming out with HE sticks, but nothing is mentioned in the product pages.

Interesting!

Maybe not the right community, and not sure whether to congratulate you or just say tough shit.

Everything can have a positive or negative charge. Voltage is just the difference in charge between two points. Given a big enough difference in charge any material can conduct electricity to balance the charge since nature seeks to balance out differences in charge/energy.

Great points all around!

Check you ISP connections limits, remember that uploading from an external device will be downloaded by your home router and vice versa.

2nded! I really like it as a google alternative for maps and nav.

Narcissism and confirmation bias runs rampant in our governments and top executives.

I was pretty sure the 8bitdo ultimate was supposed to have HE sticks and triggers, not sure if the different models use different sticks but would seem unlikely, but another user mentioned they were indeed different.

Running /e/ OS on a 1+ 7 Pro

Go for it, that's the beauty of this!

Who cares, you're still interacting with a Lemmy instance.

Fair dues, didn't pay attention to that distinction. Mb
