I'm honored you are taking this time to review my posts and add downvotes. I'm sure your life is fulfilling.

Who cares? Lemmy is literally beta software and it isn't corporate growth driven social media. Also it doesn't have to replace anything. I use a lot of apps. I use both Lemmy and Reddit and always have. I have Instagram too, I also use both Twitter and Mastodon. I have Signal, Snapchat, Linkedin and Nextdoor.I like Lemmy, it is different than Reddit and that is fine. I like it better and have my own server.

I want to start by saying I am extremely thankful for Ruud and the team and think that you did an amazing job with lemmy.world and I wish you success in the future.

That said, I am a monthly 30 dollar donator to Lemmy and I am not interested in Sublinks. I read through the threads and my take is that I think the motivation for the development of it goes against my personal politics and mischaracterizes nutomic and dessalines. While I appreciate the nature of open source to open up avenues for people to act as they think is best, I do not want to leave the Lemmy.

Ahead of a migration to Sublinks I hope there comes a cleaner way to move communities off lemmy.world. If I had known how the Fediverse worked 11 months ago I would have self hosted an instance and shared my communities that way as to not be defederated from people I want to be federated with. Additionally I think that having a single huge lemmy instance is not great for the architecture of the fediverse as a whole and even if there were no changes planned or being considered. I think that many instances hosting communities is preferable to having large ones like lemmy.ml and lemmy.world.

Again I totally get that this is provided free and as is and as such you are free to make the decision you think is best. Even though I am a difficult person, I very much appreciate you, your team and what you are trying to accomplish. Thank you.

This was extremely ambitious. I am not a C# developer but I was able to get a LLM to build a really simple app for me to take in input and fill out a table in an azure storage account and then use an azure function to update a document with the information to add to a firewall threat feed for a demo. It took me 3 hours where learning and doing the old fashioned way would have taken me a few days. Cool stuff but not magic, it was like working with a really smart idiot.

Because 10 months ago I chose to host c/veganhomecooks here. I do now use my own instance that I run out of Azure and plan to figure out a way to move my comm there but that is not easy to two click and move, I would lose all the subscribers and posts and it would not be cached on any other federated server. It is currently the largest and most active vegan focused community on the fediverse and do not want to leave it behind.

Based on all the other threads and cross posts it just seems like this software is being created because Jason Grim doesn't like the lemmy devs or their politics. I guess that's as good of a reason to fork as any. I'm happy with the way lemmy is and how its being created so I have been doing monthly donations to them for its development.

To me there is no vs. My web browser has tabs and I can have multiple ones open at a time. It is cool to have more things, I don't need to commit to anything like an app or website.

I don't believe any thing any of these people say ever. I believe twitter was deeply unprofitable before Musk and is just going to follow the path of any business that has no future. Online ads are not worth what they say they are, never have been, never will be, it is all smoke and mirrors.

Literally nothing has ever been won from kings and oligarchs by asking nicely you naive child.

New? This loser has been trying to build a WeChat alternative X app for 25 years

Nothing matters about X or Twitter, it is pitiful this passes for news in this world

The past we know is a carefully crafted and curated story and not at all accurate as it is. It is valuable to learn and understand but also be skeptical. I don't really think wide spread forgery changes that. Historiography is a very important field.

Any serious historical research will have to verify the physical copies exist or existed in a documented way to be admitted as evidence. This is called chain of custody and is already required.

For four years libs were screaming about ageism and immediately go back to it when Trump comes around again. Both these guys should be disqualified if the US was in any way a meaningful democracy and not a terminal empire with a useless gerontocracy and corrupt oligarchy.

You need fiber not facebook

Apple was hoping to white label a Chinese ev and slap an iPad in it but the trade war is too hot now for them to deliver.

My parents passed away a while ago and I think living in a cemetery isn't allowed.

Because I don't want to make a lateral move to another instance hosted by someone like you and would prefer to do it myself. I work full time and it took me a few months to figure out how to deploy and maintain my instance before I put it to production.

edit: English is not my first language, I didn't mean this to sound attacking. When I said someone like you I meant in general someone that I do not personally know and sometimes the way English speakers cloak language is not clear

Gadgets that aren't phones

I have a brother laser printer that I love. I just fill up a tub with generic toner and it keeps printing for almost a decade now. I'm old and like to print things. I think it's much easier to read on paper and I'm happier to print out a 150 page book than read it on a Kindle lol. I've also broken multiple ereaders commuting on trains but still have all the papers I saved in binders I printed and really enjoyed reading and will last nearly forever.

I wouldn't mod r/privacy at reddit and become the case law that removes section 230 immunity from internet moderators and ending up in prison for lols. Fuck that. They were just reporting on how reddit inc is under pressure to share identifying information about posters to that forum to authorities. https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2024/01/film-studios-demand-ip-addresses-of-people-who-discussed-piracy-on-reddit/

In Florida the people who own the politicians own the media companies, it is probably worse because people like you can't tell the difference.

Somebody better do something to get these numbers up, the board is going to demand answers at this lack of engagement!

Who cares? It is what it is, this is a non corporate interpersonal message board. People will use it if it interests them.

I donate 20 dollars a month to Lemmy devs 🤷‍♀️

Lol that's is money that will be stolen by American oligarchs then they will get another few billion after this. The US is a terminally corrupt society

Not reddit as a whole, it is individual moderators with the automod. My small community has a pinned lemmy link that is visible and the posts to the sub are restricted.

Yeah I don't doubt it, its just superficial bacteria that can be sticky. I think some people have it worse than others and that like the 2 week thing is the sure fire nuclear option that will basically always work. I actually posted this because I'm pretty sure I had this too in my 20s when I was going to the gym all the time but I started shaving and keeping it that way around then and talking about it was like a memory unlocked moment.

I'd be really surprised they came back to life. But seriously I would just support them and do nothing I guess

Most people will not click past the first page on any service

It is because men aren’t engaged in parenting nearly as much as anecdotes suggest. I used to work at a family court and like 19 out of 20 men never even bothered to appear in their custody cases. When you go on reddit it’s a huge vast sexist conspiracy against men but in real life they fail to do the absolute bare minimum.

There aren’t any books about it because you are the 1 out of 20 dude and a large percent of that cohort doesn't buy books.

I'm pretty sure Microsoft's intent is to drop these non-paying non subscribing customers and let them use Linux. Microsoft is 100% focused on promoting Azure consumption, Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Enterprise Agreement customers and not delivering operating systems for people who won't pay monthly.

I live in a dry climate and very tightly meter my water usage and running the dishwasher twice uses less water than doing it once by hand unless I am extremely careful and use a single basin of water and a rag to rinse. That takes longer and is extremely annoying to do.

Sounds like you are the victims of a hackathon more so than a single person upset about drama. defcon is tomorrow, maybe some group/feds/soon-to-be-fed will have a demonstration and talks about ActivityPub
