I think functionality wise both are equally as good as each other, but I doubt M365 is any better privacy wise. In the end they will harvest your data anyway. Microsoft is no better than Google. Personally, I'd go with a Nextcloud which also comes with a free and open source replacement for Google Docs.

Both is trivial in my opinion. The problem is OP using ancient software that only runs on an ancient OS. In this case upgrading is not trivial. Even though upgrading is a major investment in this case, it only gets worse the later its done. Typical case of technical debt

Another important target platform is JS. If you target browsers using the JS target, Kotlin lets you build web apps. There already is pretty good support for major JS functions out of the box and if not, you can always include native JS code using special calls.

Don't go for the conservative position. I chose the same path a year ago and - as others said - hate every second of work there. The higher salary is not worth the bad time you'll likely have. This is only my personal experience but maybe it helps you avoid the same mistake I did.
