I am committed to federated services from here on out. I am personally really liking lemmy... There are some minor annoyances but nothing major. The mobile browsing experiences makes me pretty cozy. With the dark theme it's not too far from rif. Apps and plugins are coming that will make it that next special thing. Like I couldn't imagine aliensite without old and res. It's coming... I'm loving it.

This is great! Feature request... Can you add this functionality to allow people to sub tho these communities easy. It's what I'm doing in a little javascript that has helped me tremendously!

• Set a homeInstance type variable (ie; https://lemmy.ml) - manually inputted or select from found instances?
• Add a button that links to "homeInstance + "/search/q/!" + community + "@" + site + "/type/All/sort/TopAll/listing_type/All/community_id/0/creator_id/0/page/1""
  • site is remoteinstance.whatever

That will take someone straight to being able to sub from their instance.

I honestly was worried about our growth maybe 3 weeks ago... It seemed there was a boom and then sort of an exhale after that initial rush in early June. However I'm subbed to about 130 communities. My feed is nice and busy where I couldn't even chance to see all the content. I can look through my sub list (LemmyTools addon plug) and catch up on some comms I missed in my feed. It's going great now as we are seeing steadily more upvoted posts (in the ks) now. Memes are off the charts. Tech and News seems to be hot. Im not super stitious well, maybe a little situous but I think things are going well and seeing a good base here form.

There will need to be some sort of stale/abandoned community cleanup or filter eventually though.

I was diagnosed within the last six months. In my 30s, it drives me crazy to see stuff like this that I knew was weird with me. Why didnt I get treatment sooner... Lol

I'm trying my hardest. I've never created a sub but now I'm creating communities, making add-ons and trying to post. Freedom here of corporate interests is awfully nice. The fediverse is expanding but we're already seeing contracting due to the influx in early June... we definitely had community sprawl. However that was expected. Many communities are doing great! It's great to see!!!

Yeah one way federation while still providing content doesn't feel too good. Defederate would make sense. Purge Beehaws content from the database (admins can do that directly with the postgres I assume). If they decide to open up in the future then just refederate. Will be all good. Beehaw is trying to have a specific style of community so they are doing what is best for them. That's the flexibility of this framework.

Honestly, this was one of the few kitchen gadgets that seemingly lived up to hype for me. We use ours all the time, even though our oven has convection mode which is essentially the same. The oven takes so long to warm up.. where as the "air fryer" is up to temp super quickly. For a small family, the air fryer is used way more. In general I am opposed to kitchen gadgets that are supposedly saving you time or effort versus the "old" way of doing things.

I use mine for my pihole and have been pretty happy. $40 bucks, tiny footprint and power consumption. I have a 3 from 2018. I get where your coming from but gonna need some sauce for your claims.

Amusingly enough, I bought an small appliance yesterday, amazon had worse deals than a big box store. They had cheaper prices on no name junk that was gonna take a week to get to me. Prime day is total shit.

Some of my friends think I'm an idealist but I'd argue that's the point. I vote for whatever would allow us to get to the Star Trek: TNG version of earth. A Post Scarcity society where humans want to better themselves and their communities through each individuals pursuit of their interests unrestricted by any "system". To get there, I care about improving the lives of the entirety of humanity equally while doing away with the disparity inequality we see. It is undoubtedly true capitalism did raise the average QOL of many many people of the entire world, however, others it put into modern slavery.

My college experience was similar. It ultimately led nowhere for me. I don't have a single contact anymore from my college. I don't work in the field my degree was in. It really only served to show me what I didn't want in life in retrospect. While I still had some fun and enriching experiences, college was only the reason I was where those took place. I graduated almost 10 years ago. College was basically the next highschool for me which I look back and think was a waste of time. 10 years on, I barely remember anything I learned.

Life gets better after college. Don't worry about it. Cheers pal.

Agreed on the watches. I had one smart watch (moto 360) and while cool was very gimmicky for actual functionality and I personally believe that was one of the best looking smart watches. Also the notification reason. My phone is on silent unless my spouse is out somewhere.

I like windows 11 better than 10. The UI is better (besides the basic start menu all apps thing) but, I'm just about done with microsoft I think... For the same reason I left reddit, I don't want to be a commodity. With all the telemetry that is undoubtedly being sent from my windows OS (even when disabling everything I can) it makes me uncomfortable (even with my pihole on my network).. Getting more and more comfortable with linux as a daily driver. For years, linux was always just those work computers I've dealt with but the more I want to get away from being a product. The more I realize linux is what I need.

I saw this application once in the past doing tech support for customers. It used a proxy or forced dns servers to allow you on to the internet it seemed "safe". The user was trying to access websites we used for work. That crazy software takes screenshots of your desktop every few minutes. We worked in the healthcare industry... I forwarded it to our security dept and had to file a HIPAA report...

Terrible software. The persons family didn't trust their own adult kid... I figured it was some form of religious thing.

Seriously, it's insane. Even more so than post 9/11 feeling.

I've been having a blast... I think this place is fully viable. QOL type polishing and some technical refinement sure but this is something special.

My so is a paramedic. They deserve it. Terrible working conditions. General shitty pay versus their responsibilities. City crews are overworked. Most calls are unnecessary. Police shove off any psych emergency calls to them. In the same sketchy situations as police and firefighters. Firefighters get all the glory and general do nothing compared to paramedics and the ambulance crew. Firefighters just act as first responders. So would work 12 hours and do nearly dozen calls... Creating overtime.. in the truck for all those hours. Just my opinion.

So insane man, love it. Hard to comprehend and just to think about.
