The EU needs to wake up and go hard on companies and industries. No mercy, no half-assing, just legislate the absolute shit out of them for once so that maybe our children can survive and live in not so terrible conditions, because not so terrible is the best we can hope for at this point.

The rest of the world too obviously, but the EU seems the most likely to do so.

Because they're causing this shit for decades now, solely because of their greed. If most of them suddenly have a change of heart and decide to put their power to help the world then opinions about them will improve, until then it's pretty justifiable to want to lynch those responsible one by one like the unhinged murderers they are.

Duckduckgo usually, but if I want to be sure or I can't find something then Google

I'm in my 20s and I've always said "finished the game", I agree "beat" feels odd with the way gaming has changed nowadays.

Back then pretty much every game took dedication and skill to finish, so "beat" made sense

A cinema chain where I live did a LOTR marsthon not too long ago, it was so wholesome to see all the fans gathered up and clapping at all the important moments, it kinda felt like watching it for the first time

I agree 100%, but it's important to note that it's a very difficult issue. Whether someone actually wants to die or if they're mentally ill and are making a terrible irreversible mistake is often quite a tough line to draw, making this a very complex problem to solve.

One of my biggest concerns with these kind of platforms is that they'll end up being a home for creeps and criminals due to a lack of rule enforcement. I don't want to be ashamed to use this platform or anyone to suspect me for it.

Do you have some resources on cybersecurity with Rust? I'm not at all experienced in cybersecurity but I'm curious

Scala is really nice and fun, but I get the feeling that it's been kinda dead for a pretty long time

This, so much. I don't mind porn but I do mind it popping up unexpectedly while browsing all instances in public. There's so much of it relative to other content that it feels like Lemmy is just used as a porn repository at the moment, I need to find more magazines to sub to

User: X feature is not working properly

OSS Dev: Cry about it

User: Switches to proprietary alternative that works

OSS Dev: Why does no one use OSS software??

No, like I said this also applies to everyone else, I just personally don't think it's going to happen..

Another useful definition that comes up is "Federation". As I understand it's referring to the whole set of mini-Reddits for example, and multiple Federations exist in the Fediverse, correct me if I'm wrong.

It was so good and very few people knew about it, sad :(

I think it was just one developer doing all the work too

This is a pretty huge concern with distributed hosting, I hope there are some safety measures on all instances
