I see an irony in the fact that I can't read this damn article without paying for yet another media / news subscription service. Stop linking to pay walls Lemmites!

This is depressing as hell.
Most people have no idea how much sci-hub has advanced medical and basic scientific discovery.
We need things like the archive more than ever now too as the the disease of thinking truth is a maleable substrate continues to spread.
Show me an article promising substantially better battery tech in less than 5years and I will show you a steaming hot pile of crap.
Pretty sure it's going to just be like 12 of us. If the third party app thing on reddit didn't drive users here, unfortunately I don't think anything else will. At this point if you are already content with the reddit app it's going to be a hard sell to say, yeah come check out Lemmy, it's like reddit but if you have a question about your sick betta fish instead of getting a helpful answer in a few minutes, you need to first create a betta fish community, then go back on reddit and recruit users to your Lemmy community. Post content on it daily to maintain interest, and then, if you are really lucky, ask your question and wait a few months and maybe if your fish is still alive (doubtful), you might get a response, but it will probably be just be an anticapitalist shit-post. I'm sorry to say it is this way, but this be the way that it is.
Any idea how hard it is to wash a baby that's not even out yet? God bless these people. Have some patience.
Yeah sure does but it threatens a lot more than just these communities. This will affect almost everyone and is a clear power grab to gain even more goverental control of online activity across the board. Children are often used as pawns for these types of bills. This is similar to the sesta/fosta nonsense.
Did you just wake up from hypersleep? We definitely are fucked my guy.
Guess it depends on what it is, but 90day warranties are still a thing. Everything is just meant to be disposable now though so I guess the idea of refunds is an older person thing.
Despite your experience it's alive and well. If reddit is a dying mall what is Lemmy? To scale it's like an unmaintained Porta potty.
I hate reddit, but let's not be ridiculous. It's more than fine. Google has really gone to shit. When people search for things they put in site=reddit as a more reliable way to find real information.
I do. Send more pics
I mean, he's doing alright by my standards. I gave it a solid try but couldn't keep myself awake through it no matter how I tried. Beautiful prose - pick a single random page out of that book and you can get a message in it's own microcosm. Trying to synthesize it all made my head want to explode and my brain chose sleep instead of computation.
Need to start doing this. Hate it when I'm trying to order and everyone is talking to me like this isn't an important decision that requires quiet contemplation.
That sounds pretty reasonable. I feel so owned by technology lately. It used to be exciting to have tech that you could decide when you wanted to retire it and focus spending on something new and different that served a different purpose. Now I feel like I'm stuck with all the same basic gadgets but I just need to keep throwing money at them to replace them every few years. It's about as unexciting as having to spend money on an oil change. I'm pretty primed by this as recently my electric objects picture frame just pulled the plugs on their server recently with no notice and bam, I have a black screen in my living room instead of pictures of my dog, family, and favorite artwork.
Yikes, please click on the link and do submit to your reps. Very easy to do. This kind of save the children labeling almost always gets voted in, so this is an uphill battle, but this is clearly a power grab, don't let them take this, the implications are quite frightening. If policies like fosta / sesta can become reality, this can too. Things are degrading rapidly, fight it!
Are you OK?
It's a huge issue actually. All those beeps do prevent sleep and sleep deprivation worsens hospital dementia and slows healing. It's antiquated AF. Who needs to hear the beeps? The Nurse. Nurse could be many yards away so beeps need to be loud. Do you really think this is the best way we have in the 21st century to alert nurses?
Reading Lemmy is like a newspaper. After 20-30 min you are kind of finished with the days posts.
Almost all of those things were tech that pushed the limits. They paid for it with poor sales or glitches, but thank God they took some chances instead of just upgrading the pixels on a camera year after year. I applaud these disasters.
Why isn't this just built into the browsers? Why can't I make a universal setting to reject all unnecessary cookies and have websites recognize that instead of asking me every time? They way this is implemented is asinine.
A WOMAN WAS ARRESTED! SHE PLAYED WITH LEGOS! SHE IS OVER 99 YEARS OF AGE!
Wtf? Of course not. The workforce would be devastated if half of Americans had achieved financial freedom.
Yeah ok, that's like a gas leak from the gas Co. They come over and help you fix it.
You know who else serves water mom? Prison, prison serves water. Is it impolite to leave prison!?
When your PAC gets drained not advancing any of your political ideals but instead trying to bail your candidate out of prison, you might want to pick a new piece of shit to throw your money at.
Can we please all assemble as close as possible to these things and use unencrypted connections to download very very gay porn?
They are getting more creative...
Profit?
Yeah, tore my family apart too. So bad now that I'm pretty certain it's irrepairable. Guess there was a lot of underlying issues but there always is with family right? This shit really just scratched the scab off and the pus came pouring out. Still though, I think family is fragile in many cases and you just make it work, but when something this polarizing comes around it can shift the balance enough to start a casastrophic cascade. The GOP is an ice-9 motherfucker right now. They turn everything they touch into complete shit.
Mullvad - this π. But also Mullvad, blocking port forwarding π.
π I love all the lore around pool pee. Which one of your buddies told you this? This is right up there with the don't pee in this pool - there is a chemical tracer that will turn it pink myth.
Get out there and sniff some chlorine brother! It indeed has a smell! With or without the pee.
I did it. Sue me.
But that's all you had to do. Try making yourself dark now. It's a constant battle.
Ha fuck you pleeb. We so fucking rich we drivin' g wagons to work wearing crocs and sweat pants then when g wagon gets full of mustard from our sandwiches we just buy another. Our shit is so far from together but ain't nothing gonna stop us. Also we just deleted your mom's GDrive because we can.
βGoogle probably
Guess I'm just old but I still think it's insane that anyone pays for water at all. I 40yrs people will think it's nuts to get free breathable air.
Yeah that and on my custom built pc that runs awesomely windows 11 poo poos some of my hardware and refuses to take up residence all together.
You trollin' bruh?
So we should all assume free services put us at risk of grossly negligent loss of life? It wasn't just Google, the damn thing wasn't even marked. Did you read the article? It doesn't sound like this had much to do with a lack of common sense. There is a closed road by me that I have reported three times to Google maps over the past four years and it remains marked as open on maps - it is frustrating to have a reporting feature available and have these requests ignored / univestegated.
Thanks, just went from sad to clinically depressed.
So is honesty in advertising. Good on them.
It's scary how tech illiterate most teens / young adults are. Despite the fact that they live their lives through digital interfaces, the majority do not know how to use a keyboard properly.
I wrongly had assumed that by being surrounded by so much tech, young people would just soak it in and strive to optimize it's use through early mastery. It turns out that despite everyone using tech all the time now, it's still the same thin slice of the pie that scratch the tech any deeper than the top surface.
