as an american i must say i HATE this as well. people ask me why i use military time and i say it's because there are 24 hours in the day so it makes much more sense to me. and that in other parts of the world they call it international time with the military having nothing to do with it.

makes me wanna scream. thank you for letting me go off.

as someone who has noticed far too many articles mentioning police having killed people who look like me and my family members, this is what us black folks like to see.

we already have this feature on the Tusky app but I'm glad Mastodon is adding it to the native app

when it's illegal to exist might as well fuck shit up, be they do crime yall

I like OP's idea but I wonder about the legality of it and how it might be used against BookWyrm by private entities. Interoperability/plugins that act as middle-men + open library seems like the way.

Maybe an unpopular opinion and definitely not to minimize the raping of women, but when the Proud Boy leader Enrique Tarrio got only 22 years for literal seditious conspiracy, it just feels a little unbalanced. Two women over trying to overthrow a whole country? Why aren't the numbers of these sentences switched?

Can any lawyers explain?

more marvel failures please

"the fediverse isn't ready to take over yet" - so put time and attention into making it ready instead of trying to build something completely new. If enough businesses and public figures put their resources into getting the fediverse beefed up (or dumbed down/simplified) to where the public needs it to be to meet their needs, it could happen much sooner. And it'd be better in the long run than whatever replacement will just follow the exact same villain character arc as Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter - sell more shit to you and let the app fucking break.

i wouldn't say it's entirely unhelpful at this broad of an analysis, because it is important to point out that this is a thing for people who might find it surprising. but i do see what you mean by "the title implies causation when all the study is is a correlation."

All this time I thought it would make learning the language easier for a non-native speaker, because it's reinforcing which pronouns go together—her with she, him with he, they with them, etc. Funny I never saw it as being redundant until you pointed it out.

i wouldn't know, i haven't been back to reddit

obviously we should all just switch to metric time lmao

I dropped Spotify and starting using iBroadcast and haven't looked back. Glad to cut another subscription.

monobrows and big ears

So much of a trope it even showed up in Sense8.

lol there's no redemption

next: the robots 3d printing their own limbs

It helps to have a meaty subscription list to switch to for when All goes through a meme-y period, but overall I agree and was just thinking of this yesterday actually. Except I was thinking about art and how I used to see more art on the frontpage at Reddit. Would love to see more OC art get hot over here too (in addition to hot topics of course).

i came because of microsoft paranoia, then stayed for the customization

very sketchy source, would not trust

All this time I thought Beehaw was like Kbin in that it communicated with Lemmy instances but wasn't itself Lemmy. Any way of making this a reality, or maybe that'd be too much of an overhaul at this point?

I admit I was once one of these.

me on kbin not knowing lemmy didn't have these things... damn lol

Personally, I'm highly sensitive and need a place during the workday to get away from all the overstimulation. My car is my safe, sacred space that is isolated and quiet, and I have curtains in addition to my sunscreen put across my windshield to block out the light. I can pause and meditate, or take it on the road and go have dinner in my car one night. I can stretch out in the back and nap.

But don't get me wrong, I still take public transportation when it makes sense. Like last month when I went to a festival in the city and it was much cheaper to the 2 buses and the metro rather than pay for parking. Sure it took a bit more time, but I just used the time to listen to podcasts or audiobooks and felt like the time wasn't wasted at all.

So TLDR I'm a both types guy. I like my car because I'm super introverted and need the space to recharge when out in public, but I use public transportation when it's cheaper or makes more sense.

good to know, i'll have to check it out

black people are actual refugees from virtual spaces like twitter, as are queer people...

as the language landscape changes, so does language usage. and this whole notion of trying to police speech in such a way is bit too prescriptive for me tbh. it may be a virtual home but it is still a home in a very real sense where real connections and community are made, so the word refugee definitely applies.

yeahhh the free internet is a bit like a wild west. maybe ain't for children. maybe gotta keep em behind more secure digital walls while they're growing before letting em loose. but still gotta teach em media literacy and safe internet practices and such.

but lbr this isn't gonna stop the more persistent kids

I was that classmate lol

I don't member the exact model but I had an LG Voyager that i held onto for a long time... I did NOT want to give up my physical keyboard for the touchscreen keyboard so I held out as long as I could. If Samsung came out with a slide-out keyboard for smartphones I'd be on that shit right away.

damn i wanna get my weed from yall now

Closest that I've seen is creative community on beehaw

true, I hadn't thought about the density

Damn. So many Lemmy clients and none for Kbin.

Damn, thanks for explaining. Really does sound like a fool's errand to understand such a fractured mess.
