This is too funny. What a great post to wake up to lmfao.

People: AI will take over the world Meanwhile, AI:

Down again it seems. People seriously need to switch away from lemmy.world. Every single time it goes down so much content goes down with it. It's annoying.

I live in a country in that South China Sea region and I hope mainland China magically disappears or something.

But....why?

Boy do I wish the same thing would happen to Meta.

This dress is now connected to a murder attempt. Don't believe me? Here you go.

It's like prohibition. You ban it, they're gonna find ways around it to use their phones even more. Source: I was once a teenager.

I have "the choice". It is one cute choice.

I bet it's USB 2.0. Sidenote: DAE hate all cloud transfer options/nearby share/airdrop and just plug in a good old cable like me any time they need to transfer stuff lol?

I'll wait a couple generations and then buy one for GrapheneOS.

Ugh. I would love to stop using it but I need it for school. My college regularly posts information on Facebook groups instead of its own websites and I need Messenger for communication/group work in college.

I got a Pixel 6 Pro second hand from the US recently for GrapheneOS.

Here's what I like:

  • Fingerprint sensor is fast and reliable
  • Phone is buttery smooth, no weird slowdowns, I've been very satisfied
  • Excellent hardware: beautiful, premium, unqiue. It feels heavy but in a well - balanced, premium way .The curved back, screen and sides makes it so comfortable to hold. And I love the camera bar which because the phone doesn't rock back and forth on the table.
  • No parallel for customization, well maintained custom ROMs (I came from a Xiaomi, I swear Google Pixels are way better in this regard.), GrapheneOS is awesome.

What I don't like:

  • Phone gets hot on cellular, probably an inefficient Exynos modem
  • Battery is just okay. Charging is not an issue, takes about an hour to reach 80%, which is what I usually keep my phone at anyway for better battery health.
  • Screen not quite bright enough on brutal summer days.

So yeah overall I'm a happy camper. When this one loses support for GrapheneOS, I'll be upgrading to another Pixel.

Because Lemmy users are also humans and humans are assholes.

Huh, ok. Well then, fuck you Asus.

The latest update is so awesome. The app is so fast and buttery smooth now. Just like how I remember it, maybe even smoother.

Excellent hardware, mediocre software, too expensive. To elaborate on the software, long software update is good. And the iPhone is certainly smooth. However it requires too many workarounds for/straight up can't do what I would consider basic features on Android. And it certainly isn't bug free. For the average user though, I don't think they care about any of that, they only care about the brand, which is why the iPhone still sells so well.

That's impossible to avoid actually. That's how all colleges in my country work and generally that's how life works. Facebook is massive here and Messenger is the most popular instant messaging app among the youth.

Infinity is the best Reddit client I've ever tried, and I will say the same for the Lemmy fork. I have deleted everything else but Sync and Infinity.

Off - topic but I'm really liking these threads.

No, no one cares. I'm the weird/paranoid one for being weary of data collection by tech companies.

I'm in South East Asia (won't reveal more for privacy reasons). Facebook is really popular here.

Awww, fuck you too!

They have their own brand of HIV too.

Good luck trying to enforce that.

Eh. I wouldn't hold that against them. Reddit or Lemmy is just social media. Just one small aspect in people's lives. Pretty hard to care about something like Reddit taking away API access when you've got much more important things like a job, a social life and a family to care for. Even harder when you only use the official apps.

Pixel 6 Pro for GrapheneOS. Awesome phone.

I don't root anymore, not since I switched to GrapheneOS. It breaks the Android security model. On GrapheneOS it's like fortifying a castle and then blowing a wide open hole in the wall. Just didn't make any sense.

No it's not just an American thing. On my carrier I can have unlimited data all I want but hotspot is limited to 5GB/month and I have to pay for more or it goes down to 512Kbps basically unusable.

Dang the bot went to town on this video

Count me in.

You mean you eat the flavor packet? Aight buddy, see you on Chubbyemu's channel!

Now kiss.

You know, on the one hand, I really want to support the Fediverse. But on the other hand, too much social media is bad. So it's kind of a delicate balancing act.

If you're considering rooting, I'd say don't. Rooting is like blowing a hole in the wall of a castle. It breaks the Android security model. A rooted device is insecure and cannot be made secure no matter how many Magisk modules you flash. Do not root a device you do anything important on.

I started caring about privacy at the tail end of high school. I started running LineageOS with microG then. Now that I'm in college, I've quit most mainstream social media, and I run GrapheneOS.

  • If you're going custom ROMs, always go with an official custom ROM. Go with a well - trusted one that is consistent with updates, not an official ROM that may be dropped at a moment's notice.
  • Always choose devices that have long - term support and are consistent with security patches like the Google Pixels (5 years). Do not choose brands like Xiaomi as their lackluster updates mean that you will receive late security updates, and proprietary drivers for the components in your device will go out of date in 2 years. Your phone will be insecure and cannot be made secure when those 2 years end.
