Used Reddit for years. There's no way the percentage is that low.

Baked in AI makes C Suite and shareholders happy. That's about it.

Whatever you do, don't find massgravel's GitHub and run the PowerShell script (this is sarcasm btw)

Because when you have shareholders, there's no such thing as "we're profitable enough". Shareholders always demand more. Ads means more profit, at least in the short term. Next quarter profits are all that matter to public companies.

It's obscene, but it's the way it is.

Here's a thought: let's collectively not give either of these idiots any more attention 🙄

There is no reason why this shouldn't be on GitHub since it's likely just a bunch of ADB commands anyway. In the Reddit thread the author repeatedly refused to acknowledge or address the calls to make the tool open source. No thanks, seems too shady to me.

Mine is Sony. First the rootkit scandal, then the removal of Other OS from PS3s after featuring it as a selling point in the marketing. Totally deceptive and I won't give them my money.

I think the answer is obvious: because that's what sells and is popular. There are all black cases to be found though such as this one for example.

And I (don't) feel fine

For everyone rejoicing in this thread, there's no way Apple will allow this outside the EU. From the article:

We also found references to a region lock in this API, which suggests that Apple could restrict it to specific countries. This wouldn’t make sense for MDM solutions, but it does make sense for enabling sideloading in particular countries only when required by authorities – such as in the European Union.

I want side loading as much as the next guy, but Apple will only do the bare minimum to appease the EU regulations. Suck for those of us outside the EU.

Yeah, seems like a lengthy article to spell "money"

We as in Lemmy users probably don't care about Twitter at all. But there are 100s of Millions of active Twitter users, so it's no surprise this is in the news.

About 20 years ago, while we waited at a red light, my wife and I saw a kid chase after his skateboard into an intersection. The oncoming traffic was coming over a blind hill. The driver didn't have a chance to react.

The kid didn't die, but the scene was horrific. It took me many days before I could fall asleep without seeing it in my mind, and to this day it stays with me.

That poor kid.

Anyone, and I do mean ANYONE who buys ANY GAME before it's released deserves what they get. You people got the gaming industry into this situation.

Absolutely this is wonderful news

That is disgusting

Why? Honest question about your perspective.

If you're brave enough to roll your own: KeePass XC. If not, Bitwarden. (edit for clarity)

they've got to make money somehow

But they have been, and for years. All the years I've run a smartphone Google has harvested and profited from my data. From Gmail to Chrome (before I switched) to Maps, etc - they have profited from people's data at scale. So the argument that they need to make money somehow falls flat for me.

Also, if they charged like $2 a year to block ads, plenty of people would buy it. But like most things lately, the enshitification of our user experience continues. It's not enough for companies like Google to "make money" - it's never enough and their greed has no boundaries.

That's why you see people like us pushing back - enough is enough.

Who cares what this sexual predator has to say? Nope

it’s not supposed to be

That's the issue. That might be fine for you, but for others we would like it to be. The limitation isn't hardware, so let the users decide whether they want it to be more than a big iPhone.

Good for you, but you are not the typical customer. The vast majority of people will put up with the enshitification and Google (and every other large company doing the same thing) will continue to reap billions in profit.

We use Everything for that now

Just about the same thing IMO. This app has ads you need to pay to remove, essentially making it a paid app. The dev(s) should not disappear for months at a time and not expect to be called out for the cash grab.

You've made my DS220+ blush

Actually it's also affected for HWID activation. From the link you posted:

Microsoft servers are currently rejecting HWID activation requests when activating through MAS, we’re checking what’s going on now. Use the KMS38 activation option for now.

It Might Get Loud is a fantastic documentary IMO. At the risk of making both of us feel old, it came out in 2008! The opening scene will go a long way into making someone a Jack White fan if you weren't already.

I also wasn't aware of the dislike from other guitarists.

Firefox on mobile does have something called Collections. It's not a tab group, but like a group of bookmarks you can save.

I have a pack of these, although perhaps not this specific brand. I swear by them. Mini and micro usb can die in a fire please.

You should probably ask this in a piracy community. I'm not sure if answering here is against the rules.

Disc golf! It's often free to play, discs are pretty cheap, good exercise, enjoy nature, fun with friends. Give it a try!

If you want to access your KeePass safe from multiple devices (phone, tablet, PC, etc), you have to host it somewhere.

You still have a Netflix subscription after they cracked down on account password sharing? I admire your will power.

This sounds great. Anyone have experience using it?
