Well said. It’s easy to say “let that shithole burn” for me, as a person who just used it for entertainment and mild education. But there are integral support communities that I hate seeing suffer.

I much prefer kbin to lemmy so I really appreciate you putting in the effort! I put myself on the alpha list and I look forward to it. :)

You do you. Whatever works best for your life imo. I will no longer browse Reddit, I will never download their app. If a question I google seems to ONLY have a solution on Reddit, I will only view it on browser (old.Reddit, ad blocker, logged out).

I don’t think any apps are going to be able to afford to pay. They purposefully priced it too high to be viable. At the start there was a few who seemed to tentatively say they’d look in to it, but every app I’ve seen now has done the math a realized there’s just no way.

A leap forward from the Switch, yes. I think they were saying the “Switch 2” will not be a leap forward in the general sense of what’s available.

Dang, that kinda sucks. If he was able to still have a going away message it could link to donations to help cover the refunds.

Keep in mind too, that even with the paid API usage to the best of my knowledge the 3PA still will not have NSFW/porn content in the feed. How many people are going to be willing to spend $5-10/mo while also having reduced content?

I’ve been using kbin as I prefer it aesthetically and functionally over Lemmy, and the mobile browser functions pretty well. But I do use Memmy and Mlem to check in on Lemmy stuff, and while they’re very bare bones I can see them becoming useful.

I miss my niche chill subs that I don’t think I’ll ever see come here, as they were already small on Reddit so I don’t imagine enough people will be “here” to make it a viable community. But I don’t miss browsing popular subs and all the top comments being the same jokes, often literally just the same joke? I know all of Reddit isn’t the same group but it’s kind of funny Reddit as a whole mocked things like “the narwhal bacons at midnight” but then would be ok with other, newer, repeat gags just because they effectively said “hey we’re a part of the same thing and I/we show that by all proving we ‘get’ the joke”.

Yeah I’m on kbin and I’ve been getting Lemmy stuff for a few days now.

Really not a big deal, but the fight to say something witty/funny and unhelpful on more serious/non joke threads. Like not relevant or useful. I hated having to scroll multiple comment threads to find the answer/explanation for something. Related, but also the circle jerk or the same “in jokes” that get repeated over and over verbatim.

Comment OP meant it more like “dawg” like “Yo dawg, wassap?” But made a joke about “lawyer, dawg” and “lawyer dog”. :)

Yeah, it was hard enough for me to walk away from my small hobby subs as a user, I can’t imagine the difficulty as a moderator. They’re usually some of the most invested in the subject to want to become a moderator in the first place, and then they’ve devoted all the time and energy to it for the love of the community. I don’t envy them either.

This question is more related to the overall Lemmy/kbin experience and not necessarily wefwef, but is there a potential function in the works to hide posts? That’s what I loved about Apollo, I could manually hide posts (I had it as a swipe feature) or have it auto hide read posts. It kept my feed looking much more fresh, and it’s honestly the biggest thing I’m missing in the transition.

I watched that video (twice) before ever owning a dishwasher. I bought a house this year which has one, and if I hadn’t watched his video I would have continued hand washing, believing it to be better! I live by myself so it does feel silly having to wait days before I have enough of a load, but he’s right even that days-old stuff comes off fine.

The turn signal video is what got me too! After that one I’ve watched videos on so many things I didn’t think I’d care about at all. His chest freezer and heat pump ones have also directly influenced my life.

I think that’s more an issue of design. Apollo made it pretty clear there were collapsed comments.

On mobile, if you click the kbin logo when you’re at the top of the screen it will create an in-window “pop up” of sorts that brings that bottom magazine footer to the top so you can block (or subscribe) without scrolling. At least that’s how I do it.

I don’t think you need an invite for kbin! You may be thinking of tildes?

I eat popcorn every night and I throw literally anything on it. I do it different each night! Are you in the US? You can buy many seasoning blends and they’re all good. McCormick makes ones that are meant for grilling food but they’re good on popcorn, like their Montreal Steak, Brazilian Steal, Montreal Chicken, etc. If you have access to Trader Joe’s they have an Umami blend that is good, their onion salt blend is good on popcorn. Smoked paprika, Garam masala, anything. Nutritional yeast. Go wild!

HobbyDrama. I wouldn’t have anything to contribute so I haven’t started it myself, but I really enjoyed reading the in depth writings about niche hobby blowouts.

and whether the fees Reddit makes of API access makes up for it.

Are there any 3PA that are even able to afford them? I got the vibe the fees weren’t ever meant to actually end up being paid, but were meant in a roundabout way to block 3PA by pricing them out.

That’s really scummy of Stitcher. Wow.

And I totally get the anti IHR monopoly thing!

Thank you for explaining your feelings. :)

That’s great to hear, thanks. I honestly didn’t know if it was just a thing for Apollo, did other apps have it as a feature? I went from AlienBlue to Apollo so haven’t experienced a lot of them.

Wow, a lot of peoples first games were “real” games! My first was definitely one called The Treehouse which was an educational game. If I get to talk about my first “real” game it would either have been DOOM or Commander Keen, I think DOOM though because it arguably would have been easier to grasp the core concept as a child. This was on I think Windows 3.1?

Collapse threads and hide read posts (and manually hide posts I don’t want to read) are basically the only options I desperately want. Lol. Right now my feed is full of posts I don’t care about or have already finished.

May I ask why? I never used Stitcher but a few podcasts I listen to had premium on it. And why do you dislike IHR? Several podcasts I listen to are IHR productions. :(
