I’m kinda surprised I’m seemingly in the minority of preferring self check. At least before they handicapped all the regular self checkouts and forced everyone to do self checkout. When it was truly optional, especially when it was “20 items of fewer” style, it was so much faster because I’m usually not buying a huge cart worth of items, and I can bag my own way. However now that Susan with her month’s worth of groceries for her family of 4 is also in self checkout, it makes it less efficient.

This is deliciously mild.

For your reference: for all intents and purposes there isn’t one. Lemmy accounts can interact and follow kbin communities and vice versa. You don’t need accounts on both, though you can if you choose.

Considering a woman ran as a democrat then switched to republican as soon as she was in office, it doesn’t seem like anything stopping them.

And when I went to find a link apparently it’s happened multiple times just this year.

He Flanderized himself right out of the running.

You mean for this specific case? Yes, they’re two separate communities which is why it was disadvantageous to create a community on both kbin and Lemmy—if they made just one, that one community could share subscribers and comments and such from all Lemmy instances (that aren’t defederated) as well as kbin. They didn’t need to make separate accidentalrenaissance communities but they did.

I’m not a fan of the e-mail analogy overall, but here it works. It’s like they created a gmail account and an aol account, thinking only gmail accounts could email each other and only aol accounts could email each other. But really, if they made only a gmail account then both gmail and aol would be able to communicate easily.

What blows my mind is I think they would have been moderately successful if they just said you need to have Premium to be able to use third party apps. I used Reddit for HOURS a day. Honestly it was bad. I wouldn’t have liked it but I probably could have justified to myself paying a small fee per month to be able to continue using Apollo if they had played their cards right. Instead I haven’t been back since before the blackout. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I should thank spez for cutting my addiction cold turkey.

I think their point is password managers make it very easy to have completely unique passwords, and if your Lemmy password is compromised you can change it without worrying about any other accounts being compromised. Not that a manager would magically protect you from ever being compromised.

I just…Venmo lets you make payments privately. Why leave them public? You know you’re pulling some bullshit!

Whenever I go over there it always feels like they just like to listen to themselves talk. :(

Naw OP is right. Music fans, tv show fans, etc all have these weird subgroups that take everything way too seriously and go after people or make threats etc etc. I think it’s more whenever you hyper concentrate people, boil them down like this, that this stuff happens.

Same. I’ve had phones and text in dreams. Another trigger is supposed to be looking at a clock and it won’t look right but I’ve checked the time in dreams many times.

It also means people trying to share posts with friends will have trouble. If someone sends me a link that insists I open in app I’ll either ask the sender to just screenshot it or pretend I looked.

Oh, gotcha! I think they would likely be ousted pretty quickly if they tried that.

I was using Mlem more but this latest update to Memmy really looks great, and afaik it’s the first of what I have to add the ability to hide posts (at least on iOS), which was an essential feature for me on Apollo. Now I just want to be able to change my browsing swipe controls to hide and save swiping right like I did on Apollo! Aesthetically it’s looking really good too. I like the Apollo-esque themes.

Yeah I watch a girl on YouTube who bought a run down old house in Nova Scotia + plenty of land for I think $64k? It obviously takes a lot of work to get it modernized but it was technically liveable when she bought it. But it’s kinda out in the middle of nowhere and therefore not as desirable.

(If anyone cares, she’s a booktuber but she has a whole video series on refurbing the house. Her name is Ariel Bissett.)

Milk but no “non-dairy milk” option?

Unfortunately it wasn’t just rich idiots, but any idiots with disposable income. Only the rich million-dollar NFT garbage made the news, but plenty of “normal” folk lost money with the junk too.

Subscribe to some lemmynsfw.com communities

Tbh “sharting” is pretty apt for what a bot reposting AITA posts is doing lol.

OP, like me, probably doesn’t/didn’t know that the website interface for Lemmy has a solution for this and it’s actually an app problem. So to OP it is a “Lemmy” gripe until we’re given more info. :)

Click on the search button on Memmy, type “accidentalrenaissance” in the bar then click to search communities. Both the kbin and the blahzone communities show for me there, pick which one you’d prefer and subscribe. Or both. You can do both.

Same lmao

try lemmynsfw.com

Semi-related, my dad taught me if no one was hurt/nothing bad happened to start with that. Like if a friend was in a car accident I start “Everyone is ok, but Michael got rear ended this morning” or “There was minimal damage thankfully, but a tornado went through Jessica’s neighborhood last night”. No point in making someone go through that roller coaster.

For some reason this breaks the way my app (Voyager) identifies OP. It usually gives them a blue color to make it easier to spot OP in the comments, but here OP is not marked. Interesting.

Funnily enough, you can change the Alexa wake word (edit: on certain devices, I can change it on my Show but not my Tap). It can be “Echo”, “Amazon”, “Computer” and for some reason “Ziggy” (someone is a big fan of Bowie or Sunday morning cartoons?)

I know you can’t change Siri, I’m not sure about Google but I assume that can’t be changed either.

It seems like many of the “all desktop people” don’t know the “all mobile people” exist, and many of the all mobile people don’t know the desktop people exist. I’ve seen some discussions in PC-centric communities shocked to hear how few people even have a laptop let alone a full PC anymore. It’s like the sitting vs standing wiping people used to not know each other existed before the internet blew up about it.

Ohhhh I see that now gotcha. Thank you!

Same. I hate driving as well, I can’t imagine driving somewhere for 4 hours, doing something, then turning around and driving back another 4 hours the same day.

I’m not super knowledgeable. My only guess is your instance may be defederated with those instances? Just as a test, maybe create an account on lemmy.world or kbin.social and login to Memmy with that account and try again? If that doesn’t work then I wouldn’t have a clue. I barely know what I’m doing myself. Haha

The “manual” way (aka not electric) was just one of these that goes on your stove top. :)

If you’re viewing in compact mode on wefwef I believe that’s a known issue.

No, there’s one called Artemis in dev but since kbin doesn’t have an a available API yet it’s not easy.

I originally went with kbin over Lemmy because the kbin webapp looked and functioned (for me) so much better. But now Memmy has gotten pretty good and close to Apollo so I’ve moved there. For me it’s all about ease of interaction/function.

Well, I can’t answer for them but this situation in particular makes it nice to have accounts on different instances. If I can’t log on to/load my lemmy.world account then I can switch to my lemm.ee account and load content there.

Additionally, within Memmy, if you visit the community (in this case “ass”) and click in the upper right “…” you will have the option to block the community from showing in any of your feeds.

Yea I meant plant-based “milks” (I know they’re now called “beverages” but I haven’t come around to it just yet).

I haven’t been to squabble since about a week after it opened. What happened to it?

You’re correct, I misspoke. Thanks. It’s the reason I’ve moved from kbin to Lemmy lol. I prefer Memmy to the kbin webapp.
