I'm glad you guys took a measured approach. This right here is the difference between a corporation and Lemmy. I can't imagine a for-profit reversing its decision in the interest of the community unless it affected their bottom line or stock price. Hats off to the admin team for working through all these complex issues.

Recently moved over to porkbun after dealing with a couple billing issues with namecheap and not getting the best customer service. Been pretty happy so far.

MSFT has a $3T market cap and $60B of free cash flow each year, so I doubt they're hurting for money. This is how "growth at all costs" incentivizes myopic decision-making and doesn't really help foster an environment where studios are willing to take creative risks. Even when they succeed (a la Hi-Fi Rush) they're on the perpetual chopping block.

All the video games magazines would do an E3 issue and I remember binging on all the game announcements and event photos. Good times

That's a bummer. Was interested to see what a Honda EV with ultium cells would be like. A sub-$30k EV is what a lot of people are looking for, judging from my experience buying a Bolt. Hope they can figure out the unit-economics

They also recently won a deal with Rakuten Mobile to supply RAN equipment in Japan

This is what I try to tell people who just want the cheapest things possible. We're voting with our dollars what kind of world we want.

Also, shipping things across the sea burns some of the worst fuel for the environment so I'd rather buy things made here and support the local economy whenever possible.

"The layoffs will continue until morale improves"

Terrible. Getting caught up in a geopolitical fight while you're just trying to eke out a living. Hope their families find peace.

The area has witnessed increasingly frequent run-ins between Philippine vessels and tiny wooden fishing boats against much larger Chinese coast guard ships and what Manila says are shadowy Chinese “maritime militia” fishing vessels.

Wooden fishing boats vs. steel hull ships tells you everything about who's the aggressor. Hope they find a resolution.

$6.4B for HashiCorp on the heels of $4.6B for Apptio and $34B for Red Hat back in 2018. I wonder how long until they expect each of these acquisitions to be accretive?

That's awesome. Loved JSRF, used to play it just for the soundtrack

A Shelby Cobra should be enough to stop them

Those are rookie numbers, gotta pump those up. First world ballers are working 140+ hours/week. /s

100%. Seems like phones continually get worse under the guise of "progress". No more headphone jack or removable battery, more bloated software, anti-privacy assistants/AI. Switched to a Sony Xperia for the headphone jack alone and it's been great, I hope they don't follow this AI trend or else I'm out.

Kyoto is a magical city, rain or shine

Silent wind of doom is a nice callback. A Muscular Beaver attack would've been funny too

Looks very relaxing and peaceful. Some of my favorite camping trips have been in the eastern Sierras.

If I remember correctly it rapid fired bullets

The music alone is 🔥

The one dealership that didn't have a markup near us sold out immediately and we ended paying a slight markup at another place, but after all the incentives and trade-in it was a steal.

We love our EUV, I don't think I'll go back to an ICE car after seeing how convenient home charging is and one-pedal driving is great.

Persona 5 is my jam. Liked it so much I bought it on vinyl. Nier Automata is good too, more haunting and lends to the game's mood/ambience. I think Firewatch is like this too. Jet Set Radio Future and Persona 3 are also really groovy.

Lots of friendships ended because of Joust. Worth it.

This looks pretty cool. A Fate game set in the Edo period with samurai. So far reviews seem positive, might have to check this one out

Hakko or Weller are usually well recommended

Thanks for explaining your reasoning. I'm of the opinion that it's better to defederate, mainly for the reasons your post already covers, but I'd stress the quality of content is/will be Lemmy's biggest asset. I think many users (myself included) are on Lemmy to get away from the existing social media experience. Lemmy/fediverse is refreshing because it isn't governed by a mandate to grow quarterly profits at its users' expense; it feels like the internet in the late 90s and early 00s where people made content because it interested them rather than trying to garner views or promoting the most polarizing/inciting content (or even just downright trolling). I hope the admins can see what the risks are and take proactive steps in the interest of the community.
