My work pays me a stipend if I stay on one of the big three since they have SLAs with them, so it’s hard to beat the price. $20 for 50 GB 5G is my out of pocket because I wanted to put my AppleWatch on the plan.

I’m getting my phone on a loan at 0%. If I want to switch carriers, then I’ll pay off the rest of the cost of my phone and they unlock it for me, but considering we’ve been running rather insane inflation over the last few years, I’m glad I made AT&T pick up that tab. I see no point in buying outright as I’m not changing carriers multiple times in a year.

Google chooses codecs based on what it guesses your hardware will decode. (iPhones get HEVC, Android gets VP9, etc) They just didn’t put much thought into arm based home devices outside of a specific few like the shield.

Dan Harmon was super problematic in his own way. His difference was he apologized to the people he wronged in a way that they accepted, and seems to have changed his behavior. His change in behavior seems to be part of what left Justin out to dry as Dan no longer came to work intoxicated, but Roiland just kept doing it.

Zidovudine killed thousands? Bullshit. Magic Johnson is alive today because of Antiretrovirals, of which AZT was the first.

The median survival time of AIDS patients on azidothymidine was 4.5 times higher when compared to a historical AIDS group who had not received the drug.

This entire post is asinine. The root cause of Heartbleed was the RFC was fucked. A German graduate student wrote and implemented an RFC, and was then reviewed by the only full time (and paid) member of the OpenSSL team. Claiming it was because it wasn’t funded is stupid on its face as Dr. Henson was paid for his review.

XZ’s problem was that the maintainer had a mental breakdown and lacking structure to vet the replacement, he handed control off to what seems like a very sophisticated attack group. Money would not have fixed one of the fundamental problems with anarchistic-style code production, which is how do you trust the people who vet the code?

That’s not true. In fact, exposure to disease is more likely to cause lasting harm than non-exposure. Get a vaccine, not sick.

Nah, that was the one that Egypt fucked up. There had not been an actual agreed upon hostage transfer since the first one. Hamas also won’t give actual information on the hostages. This whole thing is just war crimes the whole way down.

“I need a signing bonus with an anti-layoff clause”

I mean, it’s mostly going to be a lot of 503 Server not found or an army of bots will take over to draw some yiff art.

Ya’ll motherfuckers need Romeo and Juliet laws. Age of consent at 14-16 isn’t a horrid idea, but slap a “within 5 years of the age of the oldest companion” and you fix Richard Brand grooming a fucking child.

Using human shields is a war crime, holding civilians hostage is a war crime, perfidy is a war crime, using recognized medical organization’s infrastructure is a war crime (transporting military assets in an ambulance from Red Cross/Red Crescent is a major no no). On Israel’s side, targeting journalists is a war crime, and targeting civilian infrastructure is a war crime, civilian mass punishment is a war crime.

Video seems to suggest it was a car bomb, so Hamas blowing up their own people.

Again.

EDIT: Does Israel even have munitions that small? It looks like a gas tank exploding not a high explosive.

Ah yes, Jordan, Egypt, and Syria have no blame for this situation. It’s not like there was a major international body that attempted to create borders and one side agreed to and the other side attempted to exterminate the other in a belief they could win a war, then attempted again a few decades

A party that should be holding the major bag is the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt. Hamas is a major wing of their organization and yet, they keep the border closed. They could set up a major airport in Rafah and open trade routes into Gaza. Israel would have no say, but they don’t.

FANG isn’t really an accurate word anymore.

It’s MAAA: Meta, Apple, Alphabet, Amazon.

I mean, they still do. It’s over the counter and all that stuff. But marketed as a sleep aid.

https://www.zzzquil.com/en-us

Any “nighttime” cold and flu medication just has an antihistamine stuffed into the normal Tylenol, Robitussin, Mucinex “daytime” combo. The daytime used to include a decongestant, but you can make meth with Sudafed pretty trivially, and the replacement stuff did fuck all, so they pulled it from the market, so now if you’re healthy just build your own: Pain meds (Ibuprofen/Acetaminophen), an expectorant (Guaifenesin, though too much can make your stomach upset which is why it’s in everything that can be abused these days), a cough suppressant (dextromethorphan, expect to have to show an ID), and a decongestant (Pseudoephedrine, it’ll be at the pharmacy and you’ll need to show ID, but you don’t need a prescription).

It’s coming out of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. (So, part of the Biden DoJ). I don’t think the Republicans have much to do with this.

This is his second corruption charge in a decade. Probably time to clean house in New Jersey.

I mean, as an Ad Tech guy, the problem is that they’re at the stage where they need to increase revenue, not just engagement numbers. Look at Twitter: The dollars can simply flow out of an ad supported social media company and to the big boys fairly easily.

It’ll happen when the banks write off their downtown commercial real estate. Someone’s holding those ten trillion dollar sinkholes and we still don’t have anything to make those massive skyscrapers valuable again. At least everyone sees it coming this time even if we can’t do anything about it.

Eh… You may want to talk to your vet before switching your dog’s food suddenly. I learned the hard way that my dog’s allergic to everything and has violent diarrhea when exposed to food she’s unfamiliar with. It’s like white people and Taco Bell.

When was the last time we passed legislation of note? 2017? Before that? Obamacare?

We elected a lot of people who are happy to just let the federal government do nothing and collect a paycheck.

It’s Ouray. Tiny tiny town.

The real issue is there’s a “major” festival there right now so it could be embarrassing on an international scale for the tiny town.

He blocked the rail strike, then went and got the majority of rail companies to comply with the sick leave provisions: https://www.theguardian.com/business/2023/may/01/railroad-workers-union-win-sick-leave

Bad hot take. The reason that Congress couldn’t couldn’t get the rail deal done is that there were too many Republicans that prevented passing the law. Don’t give Republicans more power.

Let’s quote an expert.

Joseph McCartin, a labor historian at Georgetown University, said: “It’s a significant set of quiet victories. It shows that it really makes a difference to have a pro-labor president.”

18 U.S.C. § 201 says what?

No, they’re just trying to push “It wasn’t an insurrection. It was just a protest, and protests are American!”

The head of the Arab League went to Moscow to discuss this conflict.

There is definitely a lot of smoke that Putin’s calling the shots here.

He’s talking about Andres Freund, who uncovered the OpenSSL backdoor that was slipped into liblzma from the xz malicious maintainer. Dude saw a valgrind error and a function with a fixed runtime was taking too long and using too much CPU and reversed out and saved a major ssh backdoor from going upstream as Fedora was going to release it just days later.

Delayed vaccination was an anti vax talking point awhile back: Somehow parents were convinced by morons on the internet that you had to space vaccines out more. Basically once you start questioning the actual science, the more susceptible you are to just never actually finish the vaccine series, so antivaxxers win.

https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2882604/

Intentionally delayed vaccine doses are not uncommon. Children whose parents delay vaccinations may be at increased risk of not receiving all recommended vaccine doses by 19 months of age and are more vulnerable to vaccine-preventable diseases. Providers should consider strategies such as educational materials that address parents' vaccine safety and efficacy concerns to encourage timely vaccination.

No bills can be brought without a speaker, so no CRs until a speaker is elected. The temp running the show has 3 powers: He can call a recess, adjourn, and call a vote for the speaker. That’s it. No other legislation passes unless they can get off their asses and put in a speaker.

China can make the machines they’re buying. The tech isn’t too hard.

EUV on the other hand needed several billions of dollars, years of research, and three US Department of Energy Labs to develop, then investment in optics from the EU.

The US asked the Dutch government to stop selling China tech that the US government licensed to them.

Wasn’t that the entire premise of the pilot of The Boondocks?

No. You made the claim BBC called it a missile strike. I provided a source (with video) calling it a Vehicle Based Improvised Explosive Device. I don’t need to be the expertise, the OSINT community provided my argument. Provide yours.

Yes… that’s literally what “war crimes” are, and Hamas and Israel are speed running to see who can commit more:

When I lived in a poorer neighborhood it was more neighborly, but there was four shootings within a block of my house leading to three deaths, my garbage can was used as target practice, there were needles constantly found in the park on the corner, someone got mad and blew up their apartment building and muggings nearby were frequent.

I’ll take the nicer neighborhoods where interactions are less frequent thank you very much.

Why? Use something like RAFT, elect the leader, have the leader run the AI tool, then exchange results, with each node running it’s own subset of image hashes.

That does mean you need a trust system, though.

Ah yes, pointing out historical facts is bootlicking. You’re not a serious person.

Link to exactly where the BBC calls it an Israeli air strike.

All I’m seeing is “women and children dead in strike” so if you’re seeing it, they walked it back.

At least 12 people, including young children, have been killed after a convoy of vehicles heading toward southern Gaza was hit. The Palestinian Health Ministry has blamed Israel for the attack. The Israel Defense Force (IDF) says it is investigating.

BBC News statement.

You have to be careful about what tissue you put the epinephrine in. If you don’t hit the right tissue, it can not function or cause you to go into tachycardia. When your brain is also potentially not working super great due to low blood pressure (the shock part of anaphylactic shock), it’s best to have a point and click interface.

One is an act of terrorism, one is a strike on a military target. That’s like comparing apples and war crimes.

What are you talking about? Detroit has a ton of them and Michigan is a swing state.
