A water kettle. Doesn't have to be any fancy one, but it really fucking rocks for anything you might think of : want hot water for tea? No problem. Need hot water to steep something? No problem.

Most mid-range ones are insanely power efficient too, often being alot better than just boiling water on a stovetop, or using a microwave. And, depending on insulation, heat can be stored for over 6! hours.

Their lemmy is gone, and they're trying to migrate the DB to their new instance. https://FMHY.net is their current website, lemmy not included.

Pihole does nothing on YouTube as their ads are served on the save server as the videos.

What a debriding service does is download the torrent for you, and cache it on their servers. From there you can download it from their servers without ever "touching" the torrent itself. Common uses for it are with Stremio, to stream cached movie torrents directly from the debrid service's servers.

These services are also used to download from paywalled DDL websites, such as rapidgator, nitrodl, etc, so you do not need to wait 500 hours of 50kbps.

Don't know how feasible this is to cook, but jerky will last more than 4 days. One of my favorite snacks, but it is very expensive.

Yeah they do. It's quite pricy iirc.

Sounds like a joke to me? I do not get the infuriating part.

  • Tutanota
  • Protonmail
  • Mailbox.org
  • Posteo.de
  • Runbox
  • Fastmail

I would recommend either Mailbox or Posteo simply because they cost 1€/m. For email I find that anything more than like $2 is a waste of money, but that is my opinion.

Both Tutanota and Protonmail offer freemium versions of their services.

Kodi is what your looking for. A debrid + kodi is basically netflix with shows from around the world, in high quality, on demand.

But, it is not available on TVs as a seperate app. Companies do not like piracy, so many applications that are related to it do not make the appstores. A cheap and easy way to get Kodi would be to simply buy a Intel NUC, or a similar mini-pc.

I would recommend making your own NAS instead of buying a Synology or something similar. Check out !selfhosted@lemmy.world. Hardware will cost a bit, but it's far more worth it.

An extremely good resource to begin learning the server environment would be https://esc.sh/projects/devops-from-scratch/. He has youtube videos that are really well done, I would strongly encourage you to watch atleast the first few videos as they cover topics that you will need to learn, such as : networking, explaining how linux works, etc.

After watching a couple of his guides and learning from them, I would recommend starting a basic server using an old computer or the likes that hosts a couple of apps you will be using. Nothing important like a password manager, file storage, etc, just yet; simply the basics so you get a better understanding of using linux as a server. My recommendations of stuff to try out:

  • Installing PiHole using docker / docker-compose
  • Installing Wordpress using docker / docker-compose
  • Setting up a Wireguard server (there are also docker images, such as wg-easy) so you can connect to your home network from wherever, and use whatever services you are hosting (important if you wish to use your future NAS while not at home)
  • Installing Nginx Proxy Manager and learning how to reverse proxy your services to a hostname

After that I would recommend you transition to Proxmox as your OS, learn from there, and then start hosting file managers/file storage (Network Attached Storage part), zoneminder/frigate for the camera system, etc. Patience is key with this type of learning.

For the hardware part it's all up to you: amt. of storage, amt. of ram, how big the chasis will be, power-efficiency, motherboard with features you want (ex. more pcie for 2.5gbps network card), cpu depending on how much processing power you need, ... You will need to do your research on this, but I recommend getting a NAS after you understand how docker and the works function, and to tailor to your needs.

If you have any questions let me know, hopefully you can understand what I was trying to say, not the best at conveying this type of information lol.

Aha! Lucky me, since I am tall I don't need the person next to me to wake me up, the attendants can simply bang the cart into my leg! (it hurts like a BITCH especially when you're asleep.)

Check the megathread man!! Has all the info you need. But here's a quick summary

There's generally 2 routes of pirating video games (on windows), and those are either Torrenting or Direct Downloading

  1. Torrenting
  • Torrenting uses the bittorrent protocol to share files p2p, meaning it is direct IP connections. Torrenting a copyrighted file (such as a movie, cracked game, etc) can be illegal depending on your country. Usually, in first-world countries it is illegal, while in 3rd world/developing countries they could care less. This all depends on your country, research it first. To avoid any legal issues (in countries where this applies) people use VPNs (virtual private networks) to mask their IP from people who want to report you to your ISP.
  • The torrent indexer I recommend for games would be 1337x.to since they are heavily moderated and have a low chance of having malware inside the file.
  • A torrent client I recommend : qBittorrent
  • VPNs are to be taken with a grain of salt. Many VPNs pay for reviews and have horrible software and/or privacy policies. I would recommend you stay clear of any popular VPN which is recommended on youtube videos, podcasts or billboards; they have the scummiest advertising methods, lack essential features and sometimes are owned by ex-adware companies (such as NordVPN, Surfshark VPN, ExpressVPN, Atlas VPN, Private Internet Access, Cyberghost, etc).
  1. Direct Downloading (Commonly referred to as DDL for short, which I will be using.)
  • DDL consists of downloading files from file hosting websites, such as mega, zippyshare, google drive, 1fichier, etc. You will want to use this method if you either cannot torrent in your country (meaning it's illegal) and do not want to invest into a VPN to hide your torrenting business.
  • The easiest way to download games through DDL would be with fitgirl (fitgirl-repacks.site). Simply download the files through the DDL mirrors, extract together, run setup, wait, and there you go. Takes a long time to install with a bad CPU, but it is very easy.
  • If you cannot find the game you're looking for on fitgirl's website, the next best option for DDL would have to be https://cs.rin.ru. It has a learning curve if you have no experience with cracking/pirating, but easily learnable.

There's alot of good options (prices are for the base/cheapest premium plan plan) :

All are good options, do your own research though.

wger. A workout tracking app that is open source. It tracks workouts, rest times, bodyweight, nutrition, and a lot more. Also has the advantage of being able to selfhost the software incase you don't trust them with your data (which I do trust, they're nice devs)

"Hippopotomonstroses-quippedaliophobia" hahahaha. props to whoever made that.

Pretty sure it's because of performance issues. 250 or so players loading chunks with a render distance of 10 chunks causes a shit ton of lag, even on their older, more optimized version of 1.12.2. They want to update to 1.19, but performance is the main reason they haven't updated the game yet.

https://esc.sh/projects/devops-from-scratch/ is a good resource. Most questions you have (that are more specific) are easily searchable on the internet.

ways to safely connect to home servers over the internet while away A couple methods include :

  • Installing Wireguard on the host machine
  • Reverse-proxying with a VPS
  • Cloudflare zero-trust tunnel

when it may be better to spin up services on a VPS instead

Most services you probably won't need a VPS to do, but off the top of my head a couple services which would be better hosted (not saying self-hosting them on your own hardware is bad) would be services which proxy a service. Example SearxNG, Invidious, Proxitok, etc. This is so that traffic can be shared among multiple users, and not linked back to your home IP.

PIA was bought by a "reformed" adware spreading company. Wouldn't recommend for privacy as the OP is looking for.

Bind your vpn to the torrent client. Do NOT trust the vpn's Killswitch. They can, and will, leak.

NextDNS has a free ad-blocking option.

Hey man, I'm not a professional at all, but maybe you should stay off social media for a bit (1-2 weeks) and just enjoy life without worrying about the climate, politics, news, etc. They heavily impacted my mental health, but once I took a good long break, started working out more, went on hikes on occasion, went outside and read in the nature, etc. You can also go and hang out with friends / partner more often (if you do not already live with them)

Social media itself is a constant negative loop (for better or for worse) and you need breaks sometimes. Hope you can get out of this hell hole, my friend.

I know two. One in my native tongue, and one in english.

ELI5 : what is p8 and p5

they nuked Vanced because they distributed a modified apk. Revanced is completely different, and it allows you to patch your own youtube apk with no ads, etc, avoiding legal issues. -> https://revanced.app

People do not like sharing their IPTV providers, and instead gatekeep them to "protect them". You're gonna have a tough time getting a good one, good luck.

I'm not from or in America, but imagining a school where every person in that building (kid or adult) is holding a gun walking from point A to point B is very dystopian.

Yes, because their ads are served on the same server (googlevideo.com iirc) as the actual videos. Blocking that domain would block the videos too.

What did telegram do?

Yikes. Won't go well for them.

Doubt they will, it's part of their core "attributes" if you will. Theyve been caught doing a lot of shady shit too. Personally, I would avoid them, but to each their own.

No. Hosting dozens upon dozens of servers to cache files costs money. Plus, they also need to buy subscriptions to the DDL services themselves. No free alternative with these features exists sadly - alldebrid has a one-time payment for a month at €3.99, no wires attached. Pretty fair price to test it out.

At some point it would become exhausting. You'd be mentally drained all the time; I honestly do not think it's the best to live life as if every day was the last, else you'd be missing out on life itself. Every single day that we are alive is a day that we experience life. Ups and downs are impossible to avoid, it's apart of it, but it's that experience which makes us happy to live - and thinking of every day being the last is allowing yourself to live in a parallel world, experiencing life as a mirage.

Really refreshing after a year of a shit show.

You should consider switching to firefox. Brave will be affected by the elimination of Manifest V2, essentially killing privacy on chromium browsers (ubo doesnt work as well, privacy badger is useless, etc). An extremely easy way to switch to firefox without the hassle of configuring it be to private is to download the "Librewolf" fork - comes configured at stock with 99% of the privacy features firefox has.

Yes, and then you stream them from their servers. It's quite different to a seedbox though, and that's because (apart from torrenting) they have premium subscriptions to DDL services, such as rapidgator, to allow them to rapidly download the files for multiple people. Then, you download their "saved" version of it on their server. You have no real access apart from downloading from/streaming from debriding services, whereas a seedbox you have control over it, can install other applications, have storage limits, etc.

Does this clear it up?

I used to have this issue, but I solved it with meditation (sort of). This does sound extreme, but it worked for me - even though I was going to the gym every single weekday, I still felt like shit most of the time because of the junk food eating habit I had on the weekends (like you) and I decided enough was enough. Whenever I felt the urge to eat junkfood, I simply meditated. The first few weekends it was really fucking weird... in my mind I was thinking "I'm hungry, why am the fuck am I meditating...", but after a while my desire to eat junkfood really just plummeted, aswell as an overall increase in energy allowing me to cook something better.

This was honestly really extreme and I do not know how I actually pulled it off without 'relapsing'. It is not necessary, and I only recommend it if it's a serious issue for you, which it was for me (and judging by your explanation, it is not a big issue).

Another method I used is what TMPM calls snack city (youtube video) where it's healthy junkfood. So muffin bites, fries, chicken, etc, all pre-cooked on a single day, then stored in a freezer with easy heatups via a microwave, oven or airfryer, with low-calorie and high-protein focus.

tl;dr I meditated like crazy and stalled my junk food addiction. Easy way to replace junkfood is with 'healthy' junkfood -> video - easy and fast meal prep that will last you more than a day. Well worth it.

Voltage isn't an issue iirc, just that it isn't in our "culture" to use kettles. Of my extended family (20+) there's only 2 who have kettles.
