The main reason I've heard is that chromium is far easier to embed than Gecko. Gecko isn't something you embed like a library. It's something you build upon. Detaching Gecko from Firefox UI (or Thunderbird for that matter) is supposedly really hard.

Knowing Google, this is not a given at all.

I'm selfhosting my instance for fun and not for profit. I'm using a server on Hetzner that costs me 4.11/mo. I'm the only active user of my instance, but I like to own my own data and selfhost my own services.

Or you could consider using Caddy instead: https://caddyserver.com/docs/quick-starts/reverse-proxy

Yeah, I loved the golden age. Back when everyone had a Geocities homepage and just linked to each other's sites. Back when getting a link to your homepage into the Yahoo index meant something.

Another +1 for Nigara. Been using it for 1.5 years now. Never going back to regular home screens again.

Never used digg. I went directly from Slashdot to Reddit.

Kinda expensive vps for a single person instance, is it not?

I remember being hooked the moment Marle disappears for the first time. That was 20 years ago. I'm not sure the game would have the same impact on me today.

My work laptop runs Ubuntu, my home PC runs Windows 10. I used Mac OS in my last job. I'm not really picky about it.

Hello from another personal instance :)

I do the same, and eventually I started using Obsidian on top, but you can always switch to something else that opens markdown (vim!)

So an influencer basically.

This one is decent: https://browse.feddit.de/

Relay for Reddit is also still working. It will go subscription later this month.

Finally, an unpopular opinion I can disagree with

libreddit is dead though...

I was going to suggest something like Kaboom.js for simple game development, but their site is currently down...

"Possible carcinogen"

If you know your way around a terminal, it takes less than 10 minutes to install using the Ansible approach.

I'm using cx11 currently which is plenty.

Baldur's Gate (the first) is mother of modern CRPG's and what started BioWare. BG3 is arguable the best in it's genre and surpasses Dragon Age: Origins from 2009.

Same, but my cards go with my phone

I recommend Ansible as described in the official docs. Fairly easy if you know your way around a terminal and have a suitable Linux box for deployment.

I love this search engine. I've already found several new sites that I never knew I needed in my life.

Second the Brother MFC. We're really happy with ours. Before that we had a HP LaserJet which actually was that bad either. I guess just avoid the cheap inkjet machines.

I backup using a simple rsync script to a Hetzner storage box.

Yes, I'm using exactly that.

Well, Elden Ring isn't a typical jrpg. It just happens to be developed by a Japanese developer. I guess it is its own genre by now.

The first statement only tells you when B is true. It says nothing about when it is false. The second statement both tells you when B is true (if A) and when it is not (only if A). Therefore, the two statements cannot be equal.

You can add yourself for the next crawl via a pull request on GitHub, or simply mail the developer, and he will add you.

Hey there, lmmy.net

It's not only my favorite Zelda game. It's probably my favorite game for any system.

Do netbooks still exist? I can't seem to find them for sale anymore.

Those aren't really netbooks though. But I guess the term now just stands for 11.6" laptop.

Oh cool. I thought the API changes broke it

No, I meant streaming of movies and tv shows in the current market. Someone has to fold eventually when the current strikes are over.

Edit: Streaming services are paying to much to generate content in a battle for customers. Actors and writers are not getting paid enough. By diversifying Netflix has a better chance at competing.

Test reply. Also please ignore.

They are trying to diversify since streaming is not a sustainable business on its own. What they are trying is more similar to something like Apple Arcade than Stadia.
