"Last week, the text-based social media platform reported a record 100 million sign-ups in just five days."

LOL The biggest bullshit of the year... Meta just created shadow accounts of all Instagram users, without their knowledge or consent...

And neo-nazis, it seems. That's what the PDs are filled with.

Have a look at NewPipe app, might be of interest.

I'm done with Xiaomi. Good hardware but very intrusive software. Just to change the ringtone or the notification sound I have to accept being spied by them. Had to use a 3rd party software to change these. Wallpapers? Nah, accept the terms to be spied on as you use our theme software. I'm done, writing this on a Redmi Note 11 but already ordered a Moto G23 to replace it. Love the screen of the Note 11 but tired of the bullshit push to relinquish control of the device.

Will try the Pixel Experience ROM after I transfer everything to the new phone but I need banking apps working, not much hopeful.

Whem the Fairphone 5 comes out I will buy one. Decided it is time to invest on fair devices.

He should look in the mirror. Putin and his cronies are the nazis in this affair.

Xitter still being true to name. /s

I just clear the YT sites' cookies, relog in and it disappears. I use AdNauseam and uBlock Origin and still got this.

If they weren't so intrusive with the garbage ads (I hate publicity, over 95% of it is condescending and/or lies), I wouldn't mind seeing an ad in the beggining, or even also an additional in the middle of a long video, but getting two unskippable ads in the beggining and one every 5 mins or less is abusive. So fuck you Google.

Going to install a local instance of Piped or Invidious.

Nah, just be patient and wait the 5s. They are trying to create an artificial problem to try to make users switch to their garbage Chrome browser. When they see that Firefox users are smarter and don't give a shit about their stupid tactics, or even better, use different apps like FreeTube to see the videos, they will stop. Either that or destroy the platform.

I wait the 5 secs, don't bother me at all. It's not like they are an ad... :D

FreeTube, free open source YT client for desktop (Win, Mac, Linux). Been using it for past few days and despite being alpha, it works quite well. No data sent to YT except video requests. Subscriptions are stored locally and you can create profiles to separate subscriptions.

What a load of bullshit.

LOL

Giving even more money to those clowns? LMAO

The guy should ask for @xoriginal...

I won't spoof the agent. I want Google to know I'll keep using Firefox no matter what. Except for YouTube, I don't use any other service of theirs, too shitty.

The best way to make them back down is to show we won't bow.

It keeps being downloaded as a regular download to the default download folder, filling up disk space and the file needs to be deleted by explicit command. With the change it's a temporary download and is erased when cache is purged.

Twitter+ X = Xitter.

Ok, I won't. I'll call Xitter.

They are federated instances. Lemmy is part of the Fediverse, which means distributed servers running the same service (or services) and registering in one instance gives you access to information on the other servers running Lemmy. You can have different communities ('subreddits') in different servers but they are all accessible and joinable. This way is not a centralised system.

The Fediverse is not just Lemmy, can be other services like Mastodon, etc.

He may change the name, but he's still a twit.

My Note 11 sits in a drawer waiting for a new ROM, probably Pixel Experience. Had it for 6 months, upgraded it to MIUI 14 and got so much fed up with the intrusiveness of the Xiaomi apps that I decided I had enough. Just to change the ringtone to a sound file I had to install a 3rd party app?! Default Xiaomi app wouldn't give me option, kept pushing to use their sounds and download more with the Mi account... eff that! Kept trying to open web links with Mi Navigator, etc... got really fed up to the point I won't buy another Xiaomi phone again. Experience got really worse from MIUI 12 I had in my Poco F1 to MIUI 14, really doing everything to bind you to their ecosystem. No, thank you!

Got a Moto G23 really cheap, with 8GB RAM and 128GB storage, and despite the Google shit I'm happy. One of the best phones for the price you can get. Was 152€ delivered, decent performance and screen, only gripe I have with it is the brightness control under certain lighting conditions (eg, under a street lamp it tends to get dark if the phone is not exactly perpendicular to the light). Pratically stock Android, I can deal with the Google crap. Installed alternative apps for calendar, SMS, etc, working great now.

Politicians being stupid and thick, as usual.

This can be replicated with off-the-shelf components and readily available software. The real issue is the low security of cars.

Also, a similar device with better capabilities is about to hit the market.

Try FreeTube viewer, still in alpha but already works great. You can create profiles with the channels you want in each one.

On mobile (Android) you have NewPipe, GrayJay or SkyTube.

The CA (Certification Authority) is what validates the encryption certificates that TLS uses in HTTPS. In this case it can certify a cypher that can be used in a site's certificates and be known to a government agency (the 3rd party) and used to decrypt the HTTPS stream. This basically an Man-In-The-Middle attack.

You got it reversed, lemmy.world is at 0.17.4 and Jerboa is already at 0.18.0. No logins are possible, and if already logged in it works with some crashes.

There's a bug on 0.18.0 that causes problems for some features of lemmy.world, they're trying to update the instance to 0.18.1.

This is the answer. Had to logout of Jerboa and login again. Problem solved.

Only tried it on Windows 10 and I have a beast of a desktop machine (Ryzen 9 5950x, 128GB RAM and a Radeon X5600XT, built it for virtualization). Will try it on Linux later today and on my laptop.

Ah, the WIntel cartel is at it again. Planned obsolescence.

There are several solutions but will be above the budget. Best solution is the Argon Eon case for the RPi 4. I'm waiting for a version for the RPi 5.

Can house the Pi and either 4x 2.5" drives or 2x 2.5" and 2x 3.5" drives, all SATA.

Actually this maybe should have been named Counter-Strike 3. 1 was the original based on HL1, 2 is the Source version, and this should be 3. CS:GO is a variant of Source version with different gaming modes. I wonder if a GO version of this new CS will appear.

I do miss the FireArms mod of CS1.

Seconded.

Please let us choose what app we want to send certain links to. Specially YouTube and browser links.

Right now my procedure is to open the post, click to share link and choose the app, eg for YT links I use NewPipe.

Yeah, specially with Musk is now true to name, he's the One True Twit.

I think it is preferable to ask other search engines like DuckDuckGo to index Lemmy info. Google is full of garbage.

This. I started with Netscape browser.

Just found out about FreeTube, works great and has 2 methods to get the video. YouTube is now actively blocking my account. That's how a service is destroyed.
