not called Brad but rather a lad, from Bradford in the UK.

Enjoys breaking apps, escooters, spam rings and sometimes bones, but not my own. That sucks.

Starting with version 0.19.0 voting also counts as being active.

aka, the lurkers 👀

I've always upvoted both posts that are on topic to the community and always to people who take the time out of their day to reply.

It's like common courtesy to me and votes are like free confetti anyways.

So I suppose the OP's figures are, off.

Who the fuck are these guys OP?

Have you got any sources for Motorola phones coming with spyware on them?

I'm lost. Why is this ruining Android?

I think from some of the comments they're concerned that it won't be a toggleable flag, that at any point, some spooky man from Google or some 3 letter agency can enable and/or override.

At any time. Which is a very fair point?

However, swings and roundabouts from my end likes the idea of being able to recover lost/stolen hardware so I'd like to hear others voices on it.

We're talking about Nintendo here, and we all remember Sony taking away things that made things better too, right?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OtherOS

That's an easy one.

If you're here to spam your own content, especially moreso if you don't engage others content while spamming only your content, you'll find the community will use their downapples against you.

9:1 ratio and all that shit.

I'm a lad from Bradford, in the UK.

And it kinda rhymes.

Why not, post something here that's like you say pretty niche and generates discussion about it?

If it wasn't posted here I wouldn't have heard about it and why I subscribe to such places for news on these devices.

Hold on a second Mister OP, you missed the most important pros and cons.

Has an IR Blaster thank fuck, but, is missing a 3.5mm jack and SDCard.

I know these "cons" are meme complaints by now and while I've actually used Bluetooth earbuds before Android was a thing (see, jackless Sony Walkman W850....), but feel you should be including them as cons since many revel for those simple hardware bonuses we're used to from Xiaomi.

Alas :(

That's just bait asking to be stolen.

Or stop uploading screenshots altogether.

Should be interesting all those users like myself that use Newpipe to access YouTube.

I've got content on my YT account and I've actually watched a video via my Chromecast/Official YT app recently, it's something to be aware of I suppose.

You don't need to pay a subscription fee for cloud storage when it's super simple to host your own, and Android allows the mounting of different filesystems too.

SMB on a rasp pi + cheapo storage + Tailscale, all the way to paying £$€ for a dedicated NAS enclosure with as much storage as you can afford also with Tailscale?

Yup, fuck subscription fees.

You also can then use the corporate cloud storage providers like G/ProtonDrive etc to use their free offerings for off site backup of the most important data.

Seems a bit dubious doesn't it, especially since they'd be compromising any investigation by Tweeting about it in the first place.

:thinking_gif:

You ever get the feeling for a flowchart?

Someone please make one.

I keep pondering why Android has blobs for CIFS/SMB but not NFS, too.

Still haven't found a legit reason why.

Should be noted it's fairly simple to do this on any Android phone with Tasker.

Profile > Event > Sensor > Shake Left-Right > task=torch toggle

Tasks > Alert > Torch > Set Toggle > task - torch toggle

To be honest Telegram doesn't ban private groups "for piracy" and only takes out public groups that receive a DMCA.

I think the above user is pointing out a rather fun fact - if you're in some of the many private groups where shit is shared freely.....those wanting to ban it don't like the fact that they can't see in those private groups.

Like, is there any evidence of private groups being monitored by media corps or their lackeys in gov?

We've had a no piracy rule over in the Android subs/communities for years and the funny thing is, by time we ever got to someone trying to post a pirated APK the community themselves tore them a new arsehole.

Easiest rule to enforce when the community will absolutely hiss at you. Love em.

edit: a fun talking point I suppose is YouTube, and its app. We got a lot of people arguing that Newpipe 'was piracy' and I even had many debates with other members/mods about is it, or isn't it piracy?

My view it's a website that you can parse even with other tools like yt-dl, and if Youtube.com wanted to stop use of Newpipe / Revanced whatever they could in the blink of an eye.

I'd posit those numbers are much, much higher, and some guys who used to do our Megathreads over in r/Android now keep getting random bots commenting against months, even years old posts - https://archive.is/OmW0f

I spotted em years ago over in their many test subreddits and reddit actually outsourced them as a QA testing.

Because generally the TSA in Yankland are overly aggressive, but to be fair it can happen anywhere and here in the UK if they snag you into the backroom and want to search your phone you're screwed either way since they, can.

In a world of hate for the 3.5mm jack and lack, of it (I'm an Android nerd)?

👌

No doubt, and there used to be an app called "all for one IR remote" or something like that that I can't find from a cursory skim.

It allowed programming of codes from your existing remotes and also the bonus of using a URI for a IR code which then meant you could fire them off with other apps.

Problem these days is the hardware that supports IR Blasters is controlled by the likes of Xiaomi, and the apps available to use said hardware is limited to in-built system apps :/

Main thing is Capt, you're here to tell us your best stories.

Tell us your most favourite food please, and how you came across it? Mine's carbonara and an Italian girlfriend who loved that shit.

Simple lockscreen screenshot I found from 10 years back, and where I was making AndroidLost persistent across factory resets on a Galaxy S2

Fun times.

Funny you mention that, I had the M7/8 like OP and also had one of those Dot Matrix cases for mine which gave you a second screen so to speak. You could even use custom apps with it.

Another thing I bought at the time was one of these for the headphone jack. Never really caught on thou :/

Is curious.

I share one of my TVHeadend servers with someone in India so they can watch BBC and other DVB/FTA content without having to jump through hoops/VPN's for the many streaming apps that are restricted to UK only IP's.

Come at me, Channel4?

I kinda like the camera layout?

While it reminds me of the 🥺 emote, it'll sure be an interesting device @£319 and midrange buyers / tinkerers.

I have a Cubot King Kong 5 Pro. Yes, it's named that.

I haven't even had the endurance to test its battery life. Thing lasts forever if it has no SIM card / WiFi / BT and might as well be a MP3 player that lasts you weeks.

edit: I turned it on 5 days ago after this comment and turned weefee/BT/NFC off. 85% remaining.

Should be a fun thing to watch.

I had to leave VirginMoney because the lady on the phone told me I needed an iPhone to reset my password (seriously) even after trying with three separate Android devices.

There's no desktop functionality (mobile is king with them) and it amazed me that day I had to use the Current Account Switcher to go to an equally meh banking service.

Sorry state of affairs across all mobile apps to be honest and as seen by the prevalence of MDM and accessing data Vs doing the very same, on a desktop "PC". Why the data is more precious on a mobile device to them is telling.....

It's ridiculous they don't include either and I say that as someone who doesn't actually need either, really.

But it's nice to be able to backup my DCIM folder to the SDcard and then sync that via a network share on a regular basis, especially if I hadn't got adb enabled and/or I had a smashed screen?

It also allows me to just wipe my internal storage anytime without worry because I don't record many videos and photos take up fugg all storage with a 3.2.1 backup plan.

edit: What's the point of excluding, a headphone jack too I feel is the real question.

It is an option, believe me, you're just doing what your employer tells you to.

But they can't force you to use WhatsApp unless you signed a contract of employment stating so? And if you did that the onus falls on you.

Is there no sign of a Pixel 8a?

Exactly, and the way it work(ed) on reddit was a non-plus from the start, especially if you modded moderately large subs hence me never blocking anyone other than those annoying accounts.

The art of ignoring is key ;)

I'm just waiting for everything they haven't killed to merge onto YouTube

Me and ye both.

Using the "website" YouTube in my mobile browser sucks and I have to disable their "app" because it's a system app for some reason or other, to then allow me to use a better app like Newpipe without their system app popping up in the share menu every time I get an update.

Speaking of updates my Xiaomi just updated to A14, and even thou I have Chrome disabled I now get this....

You couldn't make it up.

How about I just downvote you for harassing someone and making off topic comments to the thread?

It's an interesting question this and whether Samsung is willing to use GSI's / DSU.

Last time I checked that was a negative?
