Akira. My father rented it for my brother and me because "animated movie is for kids". I was 4, and my brother was 3.

One of my nicknames growing up was Lil Miss Potatoes. But now I'm a grown up, so I'm Lady Taters.

Motor oil is a smell that I really like. It's from growing up around mechanic shops, I think.

I hate the smell of sandalwood. It's just overwhelming and I can't get past the heaviness of it. My coworkers use a tobacco and sandalwood scented room spray and I want to gag every time.

It's been about 8 years since I spoke to my parents, and about 12 since I spoke to my younger brother. They were all different forms of abusive, addicted, and mentally ill, and life without their bullshit is so much nicer. I don't have to listen to tirades about how my interests are wrong, or how I didn't turn out to be the perfect daughter. I don't have to pretend to accept apologies that are only to make someone else feel better. And I don't feel pressured to make sure that my mother isn't feeling hurt or put out by something I do that literally has nothing to do with her.

It was rough for the first few months, but I'd already grieved for the relationships that I wished I'd had and never got. I'm a lot happier without them, and much more able to care for my mental health now.

Cx - customer is one I run into daily.

" I need a SPOA and an AOC for this attached, and they better have the secure done before they show up for the EPU "

Cee-lo Green. He's brilliant, and has an amazing voice, but dude is a rape apologist and doesn't believe that an unconscious partner is unable to consent. An article from the Guardian where he apologized, but it's still out there.

There's a mention of this in Alan Wake 2, with a character saying "it's not sad if it's intentional!"

"you can't always get what you want, but if you try sometimes, you find you get what you need". - the great philosopher Jagger

I may not always get exactly what I want, but if I put in the effort and do my best, I find that sometimes what I want is not what I needed in the end.

I used to work at Starbucks and we'd make weird shit out of curiosity. The best one was uncut cold brew coffee and their strawberry refresher base. Uncut cold brew and lemonade wasn't terrible but way too acidic for my liking.

I'm a little surprised that Cake topped my list this year. I don't recall listening to them more than the Gorillaz.

I don't remember much of it clearly, thankfully. I know Akira is a classic but it turned me off of anything body horror forever.

I read One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest when I was eleven. Some of the nonsense rhyme still comes back to me when I'm tired - she's a good fisherman, catches hens, puts em inna pens / wire, briar, limber lock, three geese inna flock.

I also read She's Come Undone and I Know This Much is True by Wally Lamb when I was in high school. Both are extremely fucked when it comes to talking about mental health and hospitalizations.

I've been playing Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name and I'm in love. This feels like a perfect bridge between Yakuza 6 and Like a Dragon. The play styles for fighting feel really clean and are actually fun, compared to some of the fight styles in earlier games.

I don't know about spoiling enjoyment per se, but I do recommend at least playing 6. It sounds like you've already gotten through the early games. Are you enjoying yourself, or are you burning out on it?

I was waiting for someone to mention Yu Yu Hakusho. SMILE BOMB is a fantastic song!

I also love PopTeamEpic season 2's opening, PSYCHO: LOGY and the ending theme for season 1, Poppy Pappy Day

Tank! from Bebop and H.T. from Trigun still give me happy chills when I hear them. Both shows have such great music.

It's fuckin' embarrassing! Kicks trashcan

My partner had another of the holiday packs. He said most of them were okay but not awful, but the Buttered Roll soda tasted like carbonated butter and it was horrible.

Given and Denied - Poets of the Fall

That's part of why I love it, and why I could talk wrestling for days. It's storytelling with punching, what's not to love? (Yes, yes, simplified as hell but you get my drift.)

Agreed! I'm also grossed out by the people who would get the Passion tea (which is made with hibiscus and lemongrass, and is very acidic) with heavy cream. It curdled damn near instantly and was just.... nasty.

Older brother: we get along well enough but haven't talked in ages.

Younger brother: I haven't spoken to him in about 12 years, since I had the epiphany that I don't have to put up with constantly being treated as a lesser person because I'm a woman and have interests that don't line up with his. The fact that he can't beat the hell out of me now that I live 1200 miles from him is also a giant plus.

I apologize on behalf of potatoes everywhere.

Agreed. Green salads should be savory.

My dad used to use that one all the time. The PG version was "go take a long walk off a short pier".

Same. They've replaced Pink Ladies as my favorite. The texture and perfect amount of sweetness make them such a joy!

Their guitarist is now a pro wrestler, too. He's pretty fun to watch.

Depeche Mode at the United Center in Chicago is definitely the one that blew me away the most. Their opening act hit the resonance point of the building and shook the whole thing, and Dave Gahan is such a showman. Everyone in the audience was reaching toward him and singing along with Personal Jesus.

Seeing the Red Elvises is always a treat too, but my partner and I caught them fresh off of touring with The Reverend Horton Heat and they played an incredible set that included a cover of Let Me Teach You How to Eat, and their songs from the movie Six String Samurai (Love Pipe and Boogie on the Beach). They even did a cover of Misirlou that night!

I have a 2019 Fit! It's perfect because it's just the right size for me; it feels bigger on the inside but it's the definition of compact. And I only spend about $80 US on gas monthly, if that!

What did Dan do? I hadn't heard about any controversy with him, but I'm not entirely surprised there is.

Same.

This, absolutely. The claw catcher is my jam.

Herald of Darkness by the Old Gods of Asgard. It's an incredible piece from Alan Wake 2 and the band behind the song is an in universe version of the Poets of the Fall, a fantastic Finnish band.

Chuuuuuu

Had that same experience at work, and with someone who had just been hired and was being introduced to me for the first time. It wasn't inappropriate but I'd heard it at least three times that week alone. She didn't last terribly long in the office.

But you can't buy a car on Sunday in Chicagoland. Which is weird.

They were the center of attraction for awhile though.

Good to know. I don't like horror movies in general, tbf.
