You're not the only one 😅 🙋

The main thing about Fairphone is not the phone but the supply chain.

https://www.fairphone.com/en/impact/

Nothing is perfect and a phone cannot make happy every one (is there a jack or not ...). But I'm happy that they try to make a good phone with all the hidden things in mind (from where come from the rough material, who is making the pieces and in which conditions ...). That's more important for me then the final product.

I'm tired of the argument that the solution to fight tracking/ads/subscription/gafam is self hosting.

It's a solution for some nice people that have knowledge, time and money for.

But it's not a solution for everyone.
We need more small nice open source association and company that provide services for people that don't know the difference between a web search engine and a navigator or just a server and a client. I think that initiatives like “les chatons” in France are amazing for that!!! ( https://www.chatons.org/en )

And just to be clear, I think that self-hosted services are a part of the solution. :)

You shared only the picture, not the link.

Oh!! I didn't know that … :/

Incredible story !! 🤓

I don't know why, but that a sad news :/

Looks bad for privacy.... 😞

Cons

  • No charger and no cable in the box.

That's a Pros in my point of view ! Because we already have a lot of charger/cable in are house usually.

That's can be nice !

Until now we’ve relied on lexical search, trying to match users with questions and answers based on the keywords they supplied. But as I announced today, we’ll be adding semantic search in a private Alpha, built on top of a vector database, so that the responses generated from a search query can more intelligently align with the topics the user is researching.

Sounds like we don't need to know the right word to discover the good response. 👏

I think it's a good move.

What do you think about it guys?

It's only the groups that's choose to be public.

You have to configure it for that.

Matrix is perfect for private and personal communication too.

Sounds good!

That's a hard work to try to be compatible with X11 and Wayland.

I hope that could simplify that.

If you are concerned by privacy you should not use Google Messages because every messages passed through the Google server.

And it's not open source.

For my point of view it's too much to use it. :)

PWAs can be packed in .dmg and .exe.

I love the concept to store request in files and that you can use git to version! Lovely

I'm on the Debian/Ubuntu/TuxedoOs team !!! 😊

Actually that pretty impressive what they can do with this old hardware !!! 🤯

In the US, AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon have slowly moved to Google’s Jibe platform after years of maintaining their own servers for Rich Communication Services

I understand that the service is not provided by carriers any more but by Google.

And they hide this information a bit further in the app.

I use Tuxedo InfinityBook since few weeks and I like it very much. :)

I love you're stack! PHP and vanilla JS 🤩 It's so KISS!

I like that I can install it on my o2switch server.

Super interesting !!

One thing I noticed is that the results are good because of the "algorithm" and also because of the very good curation done by Hacker News community.

I have noticed that many developers are reluctant to introduce explaining variables/constants.

I do, and it's very helpful for me and my futur me and the other one.

I wonder if WhatsApp is going to make a white list of compatible App or if they just open an API or document a protocol...

Anyway, I found it awesome.

If someone don't want to chat with a WhatsApp user it's always possible too.

Cool 👏👏👏

EU users will be able to continue accessing websites directly from their Home Screen through a bookmark with minimal impact to their functionality.
We expect this change to affect a small number of users. Still, we regret any impact this change — that was made as part of the work to comply with the DMA — may have on developers of Home Screen web apps and our users.

Thanks for the article!

Another use case: It could be useful for one software deployed in more than one server and if admins want to enable/disable features specifically for every server.

Ooo!! 🤩 I love the concept!

Did you try with a more complex input video?

I agree that a lot of free software are old now and big enough to be lost.

Maybe you can find a new and simple project, like https://github.com/lemmygtk/lemoa to improve your skills?

I didn't know Aves. It's very good ! Thank's

I like the preamble part very much 👏🙂

Right now mainly Nextcloud for task and kanban with Jtx and Deck on android.

For my knowledge markdown files edited with Quillpad, Zettlr, Tangent, Nextcloud …

That's not zero-knowledge but that's work for me and I feel that secure enough in my case for my daily life. :)

Hello, I've no idea what is special about managing a comic collection?

What are the special need?

I know too tools that can be helpful for you though:

🙂

That's nice, but it looks like a workaround.

I can do it for myself because I'm a geek (but I don't want to), but if I say to my friends/colleagues that they need another smartphone at home they are going to look at me like I'm crazy !! 🫣

As web developer working in a company as consultant, I think often that I use a lot of free software like framework / library and tools to build proprietary applications without paying the free sofatware I use.

I feel sad about that, that our clients and my company do not want to pay ( with some exceptions ).

That's a social problem.
Maybe some laws our just another culture about take care of our commons can change that.
We can still hope. :/

Owww! :(

That's sad. But at the same times trying to bypass a gatekeeper is always incertain. They can change something that is difficult to reverse enginering and it's the end of the story. :/

You resumed very well the triangle.

My dream is to build an app/service which is easy to use as Signal but compatble with matrix and xmmp.

I like Kiss a lot too.

Very different than Nova but simple and powerful.
