I've never seen a company SO devoted to get me to not use their service. $2-$3 a month is worth not seeing ads in my mind. They've made their website SO user hostile and their prices are just too damned high to justify paying them - I can just go without.
This is one of those stories that I have to apply the filter of: STOP GIVING THIS WINDBAG AIR.

I’m genuinely curious if there’s a place online where you find the discourse to be in anyway slanted toward the optimistic? I’d love to hang out there and after the Reddit exodus, for a while I personally genuinely tried to only have positive discourse here but I think the mood of the zeitgeist is exactly that: when the world seems shitty, everyone’s opinions seem shitty.

That's fair. I would also agree with your "If you don’t mind staying in Apple’s little zoo then you’re not going to have issues." sentiment. It used to be better in the Apple ecosystem where there were many ways to skin the cat, but it seems like if something gets "sherlocked" by Apple, most people seem to be fine with keeping the Apple thing and not straying too far afield.
