If you are using hacker news on mobile. I would recommend Glider. It's a smooth hacker news client. Unfortunately, the dev had his app removed from the play store for reasons but you can access it from its github or fdroid.

The relevant part which was skipped unless you check the article

Plus some upgrade discounts, but both policies will only apply to customers in India.

Play Store has strict rules for apps with user generated content. You have to provide ways to block and report users/content to stay on the play store. Glider didn't provide a way to automatically report things by the user as hacker news doesn't provide one. So, google suspended it. Here's the github issue if you are interested: https://github.com/Mosc/Glider/issues/83

It's there on mobile. Check the details tab in tracking protection. You should see it mentioned there.

It must be troll posts. No way this is real

That €20 is for remove ads. Update the app and check the sidebar

These are miui shenanigans. You can disable chrome in settings and set different browsers as default on most other Roms like oneui, stock android, realmeui, etc. Last time I used miui, I decided never again.

Native apps are apps written in the native language of the platform of choice. It would be Java for Android and swift for IOS. Native apps can request lower level access to your system than a webapp.

Now, a webapp is a basically a website which can run like a native app with similar features and is full screen unlike a website. The language is javascript for the front-end and the backend(server) handles some communication. So, webapps can behave and act like native apps but they are not native and won't have the same lower level access to your system. Think access to storage, accessibility services, settings, etc. Webapps can also be slower compared to native apps which is prominent in non-flagship smartphones.

Browsing the internet without content filters(adblock) is like going through a dungeon naked without armor. Too many risks which are not worth it.

I use Adguard and ublock origin. There's too much tracking, ads, crapware and even malware if you choose to not install one.

Even the FBI recommends to install an adblocker. https://www.standard.co.uk/tech/fbi-recommends-ad-blocker-online-scams-b1048998.html

Here's a hacker news discussion: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=28631005

After the reddit apolcalypse and blackouts. I became less active over there. I still check some subreddits from time to time. But, my activity is low. I only have time to be active in one social network at a time. I chose lemmy.

This isn't the default for others. In OneUI, for example, you can use a combination of both, even with 3rd party launchers. One-handed mode+, for example, is awesome for gestures.

You are better off using an open source app like Aegis, KeepassDX, among others.

KeepassDX. The best password manager IMHO. It supports saving passwords, ability to open them with biometrics and is seamless and offline. I have been using it since 2019. Redreader for reddit provides the best offline reddit experience. Also using it since 2019. Personaldnsfilter, pretty much a fire and forget app. No setup required at all. These are some of my favorite apps and I have more.

It had been a while since i last remembered it, but i knew the reason was stupid. So, I had written reasons in italic. But, I guess that was up for open interpretation and that included questionable stuff.

For some reason Youtube does the fastest and the most accurate voice recognition compared to the offline google Speech to Text. If they want to improve. Implement that in the Speech to Text app.

Thanks for the guide. It will make self-hosting more accessible.

Youtube premium, Netflix and Amazon prime.

It's a site issue. I have the same issues when browsing the site from hermit lite apps.

I kept on seeing that so frequently it became annoying. Later, I discovered it stopped when I started to use cloudflare dns with their playstore app. So, I think it must be rate limiting from lemmy.ml itself or some weird dns issue from my service provider.

Why go through so much hassel? It's the default system app. Many samsung services and app's are likely hardcoded to use it for stuff like that. It also excels in certain tasks like bulk image moving, deleting compared to Google photos. You won't get hurt just by having it installed.

It appears that instance is blocked by lemmy.ml or vice versa. Because it doesn't load anything on lemmy.ml but loads everything on other instances. I discovered this behaviour when loading it in liftoff .

I guess they used the auto suggest title feature where even the original article does not mention it. It's mentioned in the subheading.

He must be talking about glance on samsung.

I posted my observation. I noticed Jerboa didn't load anything where liftoff was loading fine. Than when I browsed the link through lemmy.ml when liftoff prompted too, it didn't show anything but another instance where I had an account loaded it fine. So, I made that assumption.

Ability to make your tech into anything like making your smartwatch upgraded to super max with tech not available today. Imagine hundreds of terabytes of storage, ram, super computing in your fingertips. Ability to have tech which can do anything from anywhere. Ability to travel places faster than conventional methods.

Think super sophisticated tech. My first older of business would be creating Artificial Super Intelligence.

Is there a non paywalled article somewhere? It asks for a sub the alternative asks for sign up and free trial.

My older redmi has this issue where once a accessibility service was killed, it had to be disabled and enabled with the 10s mandatory wait because xiaomi. Miui also disables a bunch of APIs like 3rd party apps cannot change the wallpaper or the running services option present in most ROMs. This isn't to ignore the aggressive app killing behavior of miui. Overall, my experience wasn't great. Oneui is a much better and more stable experience, IMO.

On the latest miui, you can not use gestures. Only button navigation

You can create a feature request on their github. Maybe, the dev considers it one day

Considering the poor treatment of Android users. I would leave 1 star reviews and delete the app for good.

I do not know about clients without Google services. But, I use lemmy sites in pwa and jerboa, thunder and liftoff. They were alright.

Looks like the site is down. Not loading on my end

I use adguard for android. Works great in my experince.

Awesome. It's been a while since I used termux. Good to know it's still making progress.

Gestures were broken in android 11, but Google had released a fix, so they worked with 3rd party launchers. Xioami, for some reason, hasn't applied that fix, so it's still broken in miui. Other roms do not have this issue.

Yeah you should. It installs fine on my android 13 device with same amount of ram. I think must be some black listing issue.

Yes, it would work with all android devices. Otherwise, it would be pointless.

Nothing. Life's beautiful, enjoy while it lasts. Sit back, relax, enjoy, have fun. It's too short to be wasted worrying about things to be optimistic about.

As an extensive user of Sync let me say.

The ability to customize change layout, Twitter previews in posts, ability to open comments, subreddits in windows.

It's ability to cache comments/threads/videos. So, if android decides to kill Sync due to limited resources I can start where I left instead of having every thing reload from scratch. And lots more. The dynamic Material you theme and the beautiful UI should not be forgotten.

It's multi windows feature with its caching feature made it indisputable for me. I had anywhere from 3-6 windows or more active to jump back in anytime. If he brings that to lemmy it would make interacting with lemmy that much more awesome. Waiting to see what's he got in store for us.

Here's a screenshot to show what I mean by multi windows:
