Working on:
https://github.com/daniel-lxs/BotIt
https://github.com/daniel-lxs/kbin-link
Devs (like me) can help, the main issue is hosting the bot somewhere and covering the costs, but I think is a good idea.
Start with these questions: How are you doing? Are you eating well?
Same, when I posted on reddit I felt rejected, even if what I said was something unimportant, there was always someone who made you feel like you were wrong for just participating, this is much better.
Hopefully this will be implemented soon on Lemmy, so people can find the content they want even if the instance is limited.
I also made a similar bot, might be useful!, this one doesn't check every single post, only external links, I didn't want to repost original content or spam communities, so the post only gets one post per hour (which can be changed) and checks the community to see if there's a similar post there already (same link).
Edit: it uses the json page, and filters posts based on upvotes, downvotes, age, etc. It supports multiple subreddits and communities at the same time.
I hope these people stay there, I like the community that moved to Lemmy/kbin as they are friendly and chill.
Nope, we are at 35k+
Welcome, don't be scared of asking something!
I do have to give it to the moderators, they made this asshole show his true colors. There's no going back to Reddit now.
"boost" is a mastodon term, it's used there as a "retweet" so you just basically "retweeted" the comment, this only shows up on the "Microblog" tab.
When spez says "We don't want to show NSFW to users" they mean they don't care how many users voted, they are saying "We don't want to give a bad impression to users that will use Reddit no matter what".
They just don't care about anything else that isn't money, if they could replace Reddit users with tiktok users they would be thrilled, even if they lose 12+ year old accounts with thousands of comments.
With this I'm not saying the protest is useless, it has the power to basically kill Reddit if enough users participate in it.
To me both lemmy and kbin got a very important push, it showed the potential of the fediverse to sustain communities.
The dip in activity is something expected, the platform is still in its infancy and will get more refined with time, eventually being able to retain non tech-savvy users.
Any grouping of communities/magazines should happen client-side only. So that people can choose what to group.
Welcome! if you start your own magazine here you can post it here: https://kbin.social/m/newcommunities@lemmy.world
Totally expected since that post from r/ModCoord mentioned kbin and lemmy
Of course, why would I expect more of these two assholes
I've been working on a browser extension that makes easier the navigation between communities from different instances by adding an icon to the start of a community name or link.
So for example if you have !technology@lemmy.ml or https://lemmy.ml/c/technology clicking the icon will take you to https://beehaw.org/c/technology@lemmy.ml. It's a small thing but very useful for us kbin users, however it works with lemmy as well.
Also I'm working on a bot for kbin, specially made for subreddit mods that want to get content from their subreddits into a magazine, to help a little with the lack on content.
I've been doing so many things for kbin, it has literally reignited my passion to code. I'm having a blast
My questions are:
Will you defederate from every instance that has an "open registration policy" if it floods beehaw's feed with shitposts?
What type of trolling are you seeing?
What can you tell to mods of magazines/communities or admins of instances to look out for?
Great post, really shows that they are acting in bad faith from the beginning
As they defederate from instances they deem unwanted they will lose relevance from your point of view.
The way I see it if an instance isolates itself the communities inside that were relevant to many users will be replaced with others.
They suggested on some comments that they see federation as a plus, but they want a very specific type of community.

Funny thing is, this is exactly what reddit wants. When it's time to show the traffic after API shutdown they'll show the traffic of all the users that are protesting, and guess what, it'll be higher than before the API shutdown
Even tho they didn't move to the fediverse, I'm glad they left reddit.
Right?, it feels rewarding to add the discussion, to help solve issues in the code (if you can), helping people navigate where they want to go.
At least for me, reddit failed in something, making me feel part of its community, kbin is succeeding at this so far.
Edit: Obligatory plug of other kbin instances for new users to join: fedia.io, readit.buzz, fediverse.boo,
By joining them you are spreading the load so we can keep all instances stable.
I wonder if the current userbase is enough to be self-sufficient and keep growing
Meta's incursion in the fediverse might cause very bad effects, there's nothing preventing them from spitting add from their new platform to all other platforms compatible with it.
I really hope that if we come to that, admins will defederate immediately.
In my opinion this might have a bad effect too, trolls will see this as a reaction, a reaction that they maybe were looking for.
Beehaw is showing that trolls have a huge effect in its mods, making them go out of their way to troll more.
So it can confuse buyers, and they buy a lower generation for a higher price
Reddit refugees are already fracturing between Tildes, Squabbles.io, Lemmy etc.
Well, there you have it. The "we only care about money" we were waiting for /s. Expect changes to increase profit to affect users even more than this, reddit as we knew it is dead
I'm so glad I can just pirate everything I want
Just a matter of time https://docs.joinmastodon.org/admin/moderation/#limit-server
How busty men destroy families, a case study
Amazing to see the growth, we went from 60 to 36k in a week.
Wow, I never thought I'd see the day where Reddit would remove entire mod teams.
I guess they were right when they said:
The r/WatchRedditDie moderator team regrets to inform our community that we have, in fact, watched Reddit die...
Reddit died and we watched it.
You should definitely change it now, before something happens.
@hariette is working on one called Artemis!
Here's the magazine: https://kbin.social/m/ArtemisApp
Yes, he's been focusing on performance and stability and almost nothing on code, he will hand over that responsibility so he can focus on code
Wow, seems like spez is from the same breed as Elon "Thin-skinned" Musk, no surprises there really. I love to imagine how hurt he is because everyone is saying that to him lol.
