Queer dude (he/him) with an interest in tech (especially Linux and other FOSS software), gaming, and expanding my taste in music.

Currently studying social work, with an interest in helping disadvantaged/homeless youth and the Inuit and First Nations peoples of Turtle Island.

I'm also quite unnerved by the responses to @Gaywallet@beehaw.org in regards to the promotion of instances that spread bigoted ideas and harrass other instances on join-lemmy.

The complete disregard seems to run counter to the ideology that beehaw is built on. It becomes clearer to me as time goes on that beehaw and lemmy have very different (and in some cases opposite) goals and priorities in mind. I for one would be completely onboard for a switch. I've admittedly used beehaw and lemmy in general less and less as the moderation issues and shift of tone in conversations have increased.

I think the admins and moderators of beehaw have been doing a wonderful job with the hand dealt regardless.

Yes I'm with you there. It reminded me a lot of the common reactionary strategy of purposefully misinterpreting a question in to make the question asked sound unreasonable. Trying to paint it as though promoting them equally with all the other instances is a neutral action/position.

It's kind of unrelated but I think the lack of downvotes pairs well with lemmy's lack of vote counting (a.k.a karma score). Counting your internet points always feels so performative to me and kinda ruins the point of upvotes in the first place.

I have to agree, I never used the VA features. I was prepared to have issues with banking apps and such but found myself not having issues with even those.

I mean realistically they probably do know that. They just frantically do not want to be associated with anything perceived as gay, to a comical degree.

In Canada prices have been dropping drastically recently. Lately there are sales for the beyond meat ground beef for ~6.50 CAD. I'm sure it's only a matter of time until its comparable everywhere.

This community doesn't even disallow porn though. The staff are just comfortable drawing the line where they have.

Your comment further down about how "It's pixels that look absolutely nothing like real human children." Is incredibly disingenuous as the entire point of loli/shota is creating stylized pornographic art that looks like children, it doesn't matter how well they achieve that goal, the subject matter is the same. Frankly it is not "harmless" as you say it is.

Cool, good luck going forward!

Thanks, it's looking like I'll be doing a reset. It looks like grub-btrfs creates its own entries and points towards the boot directory within the /.snapshot/ directory, completely ignoring my boot partitions current files.

Ubuntu was never my first choice but was necessary for using my arc380 with plex transcoding. Might as well take this opportunity to move back to debian with bookworm. Only trouble is I would prefer a 6.2 over 6.1 kernel distribution, and while I enjoy arch on my laptops, I'm not sure I'd want to update my server so frequently.

Thanks for relaying this!

Love David Graeber's work. Bullshit Jobs is iconic.

It's one of my favourites honestly, glad it's already well known around here.

Apparently they we're contractually obligated to include that, which is why there's an option to snooze it at all. I'm sure they'll get rid of it eventually.

This is a really cool tool if used correctly. It seems much of the concern comes from spam. Forgive me if this is already a feature or planned, but maybe setting a timer per batches of posts might be helpful? That way you could select what you want moved and each x hours/days if copies a set amount of posts over.

This is fascinating, but I'm having a hard time grasping something. The title and article mentions that porn addiction itself is not backed by science, but the findings seem to just indicate what the most common predictor for porn addiction is religiosity rather than the previously theorized availability through the internet. Am I misunderstanding something here? I think I'll give it another read...

Arlo Parks - Caroline

It's more so the singer narrating a conversation from the third person, but it's a delightful track.

Yes, I have a separate boot partition. How would I fix a mismatch? The only posible solution I've found is to directly edit the grub entries, but that's a bit beyond what I've done with grub before. Thanks for the response!

Yes, I've done that to no avail. And when I run "dpkg -l | grep linux-image" it shows I have five different kernels on my system, despite me only having the latest one installed through apt. Edit: Scratch that, I think I was misreading the input but the fact remains I can't seem to get rid of 6.2.0-24

I think you've hit the nail on the head. The way grub-btrfs works is by changing the default root snapshot subvolume. I'm still not sure what I did wrong to get the rollback stuck to the particular kernel. But I'll give what you've written here a try. Thanks again.

Well, I tried rolling back to another snapshot and checked my kernel params and its not in there. My port issue seems to be fixed but i still do not boot into the new kernel after updating and rebooting. Edit: I think I need to clean up my /boot directory somehow since it's partition is not btrfs. But I'm unsure how to do it, or where to read up on it.

Was checking if anyone had mentioned this. You gotta pay respect to the classics. The whole moon series was great.

It seems that Digital Ocean is considered relatively expensive actually.

Though I hear it has good support and it's very easy to use. I can't speak on how much AWS costs though, I'm unsure and don't like supporting amazon regardless.

I love Kurzgesagt, but this one was hard to follow for me. Interesting but confusing concept.

What's the source on that? That's a pretty big accusation but I'd certainly want to know if it's true.

Beehaw.org is run off Digital Ocean, they currently have 16 vCPUs and 32 gigs of ram. They plan on hopefully scaling back down once the whole reddit migration situation has calmed down.
