Honestly, large org could pay FOSS developers for maintenance etc and it would be still a better deal all around.

The invite only is helping build the science Community create their circles without misinformation being pushed or shouted at them.
Currently BS also has one server, so it's easier for most people to use it unlike mastodon instances. The custom feeds also help with community building.
Lol, what makes you think it's dying? The MAU numbers are similar to mastodon, and a lot of the science community has shifted there (for ease of use compared to masto).
I think the question here is, if the bear attacked - would people believe the woman that she was attacked? Would they blame her for what she was wearing?

There are few online options, also you could just sync it to a common folder so it could work that way... But rarely thesis are drafted concurrently -
The main advantage of LaTeX is the easy type setting for journal articles/thesis etc and ease of changing the style.
