itd be bad as a daily driver imo

AI actually can be very good at translating things locally while keeping tone and intent, and thats what mozilla mentions here. I'm fully down with AI powered local translation tools native to firefox, it'll put it way above the competition

Some LLMs are low enough in resource usage to do this on weak and older PCs

for real. im new to lemmy but places like hexbear seem really good for trans stuff. i hate how so many trans places are dependent upon facebook or reddit to exist. facebook itself is problematic because those fuckers already assisted a genocide in myanmar, whats to stop them from helping to massacre trans people here?

half the time i end up using some sort of esp product that costs 2-5 dollars per unit and buy them bulk from china and daisy chain them

way better than a pi

techbros are gonna have to start providing receipts on why they arent shit

same 😎

for me i got a lot of confidence from trying a lot of different styles and finding what i felt most comfortable with. i did so much with my hair, different cuts (side shave was so fun), dyeing it, different methods of heat styling (for real, spending a bit of extra money on finding heating elements that cant physically burn your hair is SO worth it, i feel with my curly hair going for more even curls was the way to go, e.g. wrapping it around a conical element), digging through bras and bra types until i found the perfect kind for my body, etc. a lot of small things can add up to a greater whole.

two years is no time to be figuring out all these things that most women learn from being a kid to being mid 20s. i felt similarly after 2 yrs hrt, i felt like i was stuck.

hexbear's trans comm just hooked into one! super cool

hexbear seems way more active in the trans spaces at least. its also nice seeing everyones pronouns and being able to guess what variant of transness someone is talking about when theyre describing their experiences.

im on lemmy cause i saw advice saying that you could access pretty much all the lgbt spots on the fediverse from here, which seems true. ive already seen a bunch of transphobic bullshit on this site and on blahaj so maybe ill just swap to hexbear, idk

knowing starmer im sure he was just thinking of cases where people have the cervix removed for cancer or something

for me i will likely play some games or use proprietary apps in windows or something and swap back to linux. i also develop for linux sometimes so being able to swap distros quickly and with good efficiency while being able to share files easily would be nice.

i dont know how viable qubes is for this use case. i like the concept of privacy but i dont need 100% lockdown for each app.

i hate dual booting with a passion, and i also hate how much my base OS interferes with the operation of a virtualized os.

Is there any info about how much the base system uses?

happen to know of any distros that dont have this limitation and operate similarly to qubes? i havent heard of anything i know its a longshot 🙃

but maybe i could work on programming and making this a bit smoother if i like the rest of what qubes offers

yeah one of the top trans posts the other day was filled with transphobes and people debating the merits of transphobia. i think blahaj doesnt have very active modding?

i feel like if youre putting it on an old thing, you wanna go super small in order to keep up with new software demands. Damn small linux, puppy linux are the way to go

i still have an early 90s desktop that i have running that i mostly use to look at pdfs while im cooking, lol

yeah i was just wondering if there was a quick chart somewhere so i could be lazy

what fedi site

youre just thinking about it wrong. get an llm going, voice to text, and have a synthesizer copy your voice. 99% of your workload is now gone, no more endless meetings, and you got notes that can be quickly summarized.

lets just hope that they dont ask you what 27 times 38 or something is. could maybe prompt it to say 'Lets circle back around on that in an email' whenever a complex question is asked, lmao

i love debian + kde, i feel like its a match made in heaven. i also really like opensuse + kde

i guess the question is more of bans and not just removals. for instance this guy https://lemmy.ml/comment/9833425 seems to regularly go on to write misogynistic and queerphobic screeds, but seems to not have been banned because he is a moderator and has been here for 4 years?

i do have integrated graphics and a gpu, though i dont know if the bios has one set to run independently or something

futo keyboard is 100% local and has ai prediction

my thing is this guy is a clear misogynist, hes discussed his misogyny for 4 years now. you dont have to be a socialist to think thats unacceptable. are the rules simply never enforced with bans?

no answer? alright jotting that down... ✏

youre starting to really sell me on it

this is cute af

you should try damnsmalllinux, it had a revival recently. though the absolute smallest modern one is probably Slitaz? or alpine linux

though you can definitely set up debian to use less than 500 ram today, kde/gnome are kinda hogs

i have a ibm laptop with a really old ssd running and the health of everything looks very good. i never wrote a whole lot to the ssd, i feel like this computer could last 30 years or more without going fully obsolete. its just a basic laptop with not very good hardware that i use for looking up information during a tabletop game, read a pdf, or to browse the internet. sometimes i message people on it. perfect for my use case, and probably will never need anything more than this. it always has to be plugged in because the battery sucks now, but its lightweight and portable so its not a big deal.

yeah ive been considering it

I use a Windows VM (Tiny10 works ok here) in whatever lightweight linux OS I'm fucking with at the time. All my files and stuff are on a local server so I can swap distros easily if I want.

Usually it runs ok, can game, and I dont have to deal with restarting a bunch of stuff. I've been using CachyOS, not sure if I like it yet

getting all defensive about keeping misogynists around? maybe just ban the misogynist? doesnt take someone being new to realize that youre just inviting reactionaries that will drive people off the service, i had this whole interaction and understanding within three fucking days. people come here to leave reddit, not to find more redditors

i asked, and you did not answer, do you actually enforce your rules with permanent bans? what causes someone to be worthy of a permanent ban? do you simply just like this guy and go to bat for him?

who on first impression is giving Western chauvinism vibes

🤣 im a communist, dweeb. you dont have to be a communist to think misogyny is bad, in fact, thats the prevailing opinion almost everywhere. the idea that the global south is in some way inherently reactionary is absurd

all youre giving off is chauvinistic reactionary misogynist vibes. jesus christ this place is a shithole, good luck getting anyone that isnt a white guy and/or a techbro here. all im getting is you got a handful of bigoted buddies that you hang out with and are completely uninterested in introspecting on it
