Did you read the fucking dissent? That's a sitting SC Justice saying that quote, not some arm chair IANAL basement dweller:

If one of the dissenting justices thinks it likely, we better pay attention. The whole "They were very clear that non-official acts are not covered." is a pillar built on sinking sand - what defines non-official becomes subjective real fast. Biden could assassinate every conservative justice on SCOTUS and get his own in there to make it all legal. Threats of the same to any in congress who won't play ball.

And if someone can't imagine Biden doing it (I can't), I'm thinking that there are quite a few citizens who believe Trump abso-fucking-lutely would pull that shit. With a majority on SCOTUS already he could just start going after political rivals and keep SCOTUS themselves in check with threats of the same. If SCOTUS has done anything they've painted themselves in a corner and only Congress can unfuck us with impeachment (as unlikely as that seems!)

The quote is false on it's face - they already know that ineligible registrants won't get processed or be on the roll to vote. They want to keep disengaged voters disengaged - nothing else, here except for maybe the dog whistle of "illegal immigrant voters!"

If anything, this gives me hope still in 2024 that the GOP are STILL trying to suppress voter turnout because they know they will lose the popular vote because their policies are fascist garbage and so are their politicians.

Even among my red-state god-fearing right-wing family members, I have never heard a single man say anything approaching this. They all know exactly what he is and don't care. He has a very public and lengthy history of the opposite, and the NYT knows it.

The aim in a 2nd term for Trump would be to immediately politicize thousands of government positions that are apolitical and require years of education and experience to be competent. The administration felt hampered by being told "no" and "that's illegal" and "we can't do that" by so many of these long-standing staffers that they want to sweep away more than just cabinet and executive positions, but also thousands of jobs that literally keep the government going. It's a GOP wet dream... say that the government is useless and inefficient to get into office and implement changes that make those claims true. But beyond that, it immediately sets up even more executive power which has been their aim since Nixon.

Ban automatic guns to start off.

"automatic" - not sure if you realize it, but every automatic in this country is HEAVILY regulated behind stamps and they cost an absolute small fortune. They are also pretty much never involved in mass shootings. They're more of a gangland modded trigger type gun.

So I presume you actually mean "semi-automatic" here... and if that's the case, that's basically everything but pump-action shot guns, lever-action & bolt rifles, and revolvers. Now... there's no shortage of any of those, but semi-auto dwarfs that in terms of sheer volume of guns in the United States. And are you saying ban them all going forward? Or ban them all retro-actively? The former would be a herculean effort. The latter, you'd likely start an actual domestic war over if you got it anywhere near actual law.

Our econnomy is heavily tied to the Internet at this point. Billions in commerce are conducted directly and many billions more in enabled ("what's the closest pizza place?"). Not to mention stock trading, banking, government services, healthcare, etc. You're very much on track here and I don't think it's hyperbole.

While it could technically happen that our government could legally shut down the internet, it wouldn't last long or it means we are under attack (perhaps internally) and need to control damage/messaging.

If you're going to repeat russian propaganda - it's TWO fucking candidates blind to genocide and the one who is now the first ever US President convicted of a felony has repeatedly made comments that he wouldn't even hold back on Gaza and likely would accelerate it to "finish the job". Biden is no fucking hero here, but Trump is objectively worse on Israel-Palestine if you are a single issue voter. And Isreal-Palestine generally doesn't break the top 5 for single issue voters in the US, so please... please... stop with this.

Truly, email is (thankfully) mostly unspoiled as a protocol since it's beginning. Other than minor improvements and additions like HTML and spam filters and the like, anyone can host an email service and interface with anyone else on the Internet with the same protocol.

If you are a cis-het white who at least publicly proclaims belief in Jesus, you should be fine. The GOP drove any notion of that out of me forever with Trumpism.

The GOP is party over country and it's terrifying for our democracy. I LOATH Hillary Clinton and you'd have had to hold a gun to my head to get me to vote for her, but now I would vote for her in a heartbeat after what I've seen since ~2015.

And he's said he'll be a dictator on day one. If someone tells you who they are, believe them.
