It's definitely not for free. You can buy several Windows laptops and Office licenses for a single Mac laptop.

It's kind of funny how McCain and Romney were/are the voice of reason in the GOP. We didn't know how good we had it. Or rather how much worse it could get.

And are under the impression that what's going on in the US is going on worldwide. Apple is doing fine worldwide, but isn't nearly as dominant as in the US.

We don't choose which app we use. Our friends, family, and colleagues do.

I could live with Signal's functionality, but there barely anybody there.

Neither should the EU

You all keep saying that, and I'm not saying I can't ultimately make the move, but there's always something that doesn't quite work as easily.

Then there's always a solution to that which isn't quite what you want and involves a lot of terminal which isn't really something casual users want.

For me this time it was OneDrive which I want to be able to use, trust, and have control over without terminal commands and a half baked GUI. I get it, fuck Microsoft, but it's already paid for and we're not moving because my wife, who is doing dome contracting work, doesn't want to mess with what she is familiar with.

GTA is satire about American society. Because of Hollywood, TV, and English being the lingua franca of the world, this way they can reach a far bigger audience. You couldn't do exactly the same game set in Helsinki because the world knows far less about Finnish stereotypes. Ninja Edit: Random thought about satirical games set in Finland: My Summer Car is kind of that game.

But they have explored London before. I think the UK would probably the best setting if you would.

That's Limmy, not Lemmy.

I couldn't activate my W11 with a genuine W11 key taken from a previous W11 install.

I think it's a clever way to get rich people to pay high taxes. Singapore is just not a place suited for private cars for the able bodied. The same policy in other countries wouldn't be fair, but I could probably see it work in Manhattan or in the canal district in Old Amsterdam.

Too late. I work with Microsoft professionally, but I'm about to install Linux Mint privately.

I don't want my house to be self-sufficient. I want my street and neighborhood to be self-sufficient. I already use my neighbors excess solar for reasonable prices.

My city wants to be off natural gas in 2030 and my neighborhood is in the pilot to transition first. I don't necessarily want a huge heat pump attached to my house, and I don't want a huge energy storage solution in my small garden.

There is city land around our housing block with plenty of room for a solution that can serve the whole street. I hope the city is going to propose something like that for us.

Elon Musk has made Tesla part of his personality and is the public face of the company. He's stupid on many levels, but I don't think he's this stupid.

I once took a taxi in Addis Ababa that had slicks and a view of the road under the car. Very fancy.

This could be a House episode. Girl comes in with whipped back. House suspects abuse, which turns out to be correct, but the wound is because of Shiitake.

If you don't want a Microsoft account, at this point you should really consider switching to Linux.

When the day comes that Brein starts sending notices to pirates, these pirates will just move to Newsgroups and VPNs.

Technically I didn't, so who is putting words in whose mouth?

It all seems kind of pointless doesn't it? You screw over your compatriots only to become a lukewarm wet towel yourself.

Satan is finally starting to claim what is now rightfully his.

What's a documentary you've made recently?

You kind of get used to it. It's not as bad as it sounds. At the same time they should absolutely get back to regular buttons. The only thing that should be touch sensitive in a car should be the infotainment screen when it's displaying Android Auto or CarPlay.

Even then I think I'd like it to be a backup.

You're in Australia right? Can't be that cold, just tough it out.

Just kidding, personal heating is a very good solution to being cold. It's much better for the environment and your wallet than heating your house/room.

I use electric blankets though no UGGs. Except rare occasions, my cats don't get zapped. Have you tried going without and see if it makes a difference?

As I understand it as a layman who uses GPT4 quite a lot to generate code and formulas, it doesn't understand logic at all. Afaik, there is currently no rational process which considers whether what it's about to say makes sense and is correct.

It just sort of bullshits it's way to an answer based on whether words seem likely according to its model.

That's why you can point it in the right direction and it will sometimes appear to apply reasoning and correct itself. But you can just as easily point it in the wrong direction and it will do that just as confidently too.

In my country torrent sites are blocked, so I use a search plugin for qBittorrent to find Linux ISOs. I don't quite remember which one I use or how I installed, but it was quite simple. Google is your friend.

That's why you have multiple outlets within a public system, governed by a public institution chosen by those outlets instead of any government. Subsidize those outlets by subscribers regardless of political affiliation.

There are examples of this system or systems like it working, more or less, in various liberal democracies across the globe. And with across the globe I mean mainly within Europe.

It's only news when GOP members say something sensible.

I used to work for a company that has offices in a strictly Islamic country. I had to install something on one of those HP mini servers and found a very interesting search history. No cp fortunately, as far as I could tell. I cleared it and told my boss, but since we were going to get rid of these office servers and moving everything to the cloud I don't think anything ever came of it.

Imagine watching porn on the company server.

Anyway that night I had dinner at the house of the manager in whose office the server was installed. It was a very traditional dinner where the women served the men and stayed in the kitchen otherwise. Strange experience altogether.
