Death, taxes and this post on Lemmy

It's a volunteer poll on the Economist. It's wild how excited people are to believe shit like this and use it to talk shit about other people.

I just want some reasonable and active communities. Those "wholesome" based communities often end up feeling really fake.

Anyone considering striking US likely realizes the fallout from that strategy though

YouGov is a volunteer based, reward based, anonymous polling website.

If anyone wants to claim they are a 91 year old martian and just rapid fire clicks through these polls to earn gift cards or whatever, you can sign up within a minute with just an email to verify you. I just did out of curiosity. And they use pretty questionable weighted methodology.

but YouGov is usually the "statistics" for multiple posts of the front page of Lemmy every day.

You must be a car driving capitalist tankie to be hatting on this place.

jk, I definitely agree. This place is way more radicalized than Reddit, or at least it isn't nearly as diluted by bots so it seems more prominent.. Some dope people around here but I'm definitely losing hope that this place will grow into a cool place.

It's all the same topic posts and the same hateful comments, but you can't even find small active communities to get away from it.

Not going to lie, I really hate when the internet gets a new favorite phrase. Destroys discussion on the subjects and feels like it's a race for commenters to say the hit phrase.

I hate to say it, but we are likely already in the sequel.

It's weird that this is a link to the exact same 25 day old post on the same community.

While I agree with the sentiment, it's not like "we" are trying to beat Russia, right? Ukraine is defending itself. I'd imagine the story would be a little different if the goal was to beat Russia(like a full effort), rather than defend Ukraine.

How do you think even/odd detectors work? A team of coders has been working on this else if for years...

Oh I hate this argument.

With an election year next year, politics is about to get shoe horned into everything with the "(insert subject) is politics" is justification.

I think most people think of technology as scientific based rather than social media trends and events.

I don't think I understand how adding safety indicators to elevate awareness of self driving vehicles helps rich people avoid all consequence.

As a poor person, I'd like to know if a car I'm driving by is self driving.

It's wild how many YouGov polls hit the front page of Lemmy. Regardless if you like the results or not, the polls are worthless trash that means nothing.

Huh, guess I might technically live in a food dessert

low-income census tracts that are more than one mile from a supermarket in urban or suburban areas and more than 10 miles from a supermarket in rural areas.

Imagine being able to buy a brand new 90s Corolla for 10k. That'd be nice

What's a natural breed of dogs? And how do you measure intention?

I have a hard time believe they profited 121 billion dollars, when their 2022 gross revenue was 116 billion

I'm sure it's still a ridiculous amount of profit but that number seemed way to big at first glance so I had to check

I mean any voluntary, likely anonymous, internet poll is already trash

But here's the YouGov methodology. I was curious

https://today.yougov.com/about/panel-methodology

I dont think the Fediverse is a good example of not allowing certain activities.

That's a large portion of what's here as well though...

iMessage is one of the largest enablers of ostracization and teen bullying

This feels like a strange trivialization of teenage bullying thought up by someone who hasn't been a teenager in a long timr.

Georgia is a state in America

Georgia is a country in Europe/Asia

Splinter Cell is a game that uses the country of Georgia as a map/plot.

At this point, I really can't tell who's joking around or who's being serious in this thread.

Shits cracking me up though reading this all as serious discussion.

Are they top 10 of dairy, meat, or both? What share of the market do they hold in each respective field, and combined fields? It's pretty arbitrary for claiming 100% of. Would you consider the same concept acceptable elsewhere with different subject like..

100% of Rappers and Democrats voted for Kanye in 2020. Top 10 selling rappers and Democrats on Spotify voted for Kanye.

Obviously I made that up... but I think you'd consider it dishonest clickbait.

Idk, my neighbor had a duck. It'd probably have put more effort into the ending than the show writers did

I agree with the sentiment that we are on a FLOSS platform, so most people are going to prefer Linux.

But the rest of that comment is silly.

Saying anything about Windows/Max doesn't mean the commenter is fanboying.

Also, are you saying you dont believe social media was manipulated to interfere with American politics?

And the last one really cracks me up about making friends. "Aggressively fanboying" Windows or Mac doesn't make you friends, but fanboying Linux does? You and I are definitely in different areas of CS then ha!

I think "fanboying" in general is the actual issue

Also, like you said.. incidents, not accidents.

accidents, DUIs, speeding and citations

Which I bet includes things like parking tickets and all that. Tbh, seems like most "studies" posted to Lemmy are crap tbh

I guess kind of.

But the idea would still be an aggregation of different sources, but mainly curated by a select few, rather than the full population. Users would still influence post order and all that.

Ohwell, I didn't think it'd exist, or be well known if it does, but was just posting to see if anyone here knew of anything.

Wouldn't that logic give the camera people and editors the copyrights in film?

the man who Trump McConnells Handler's used to pick all judges, including the three supreme court picks.

Seeing McConnell now makes me think he hasn't been making decisions for the better part of the last decade.

Oh yeah, and I'd imagine if something like NATO decided to take that path forward in the future, it would probably be possible to beat Russia by killing Russians. I also imagine it would be relatively quick tbh.

But for humanities sake, I hope they can put together a better, more surgical way to remove the cancer from Russia.

I like how amplified divisive content, misinformation and content moderation is the "legitimate" risks like it's not already an issue here.

I wanted to see alternatives to compare.

I guess you can consider branching out a distrust of what is known.

Would that mean you would trust mob mentality over the mentality of an individual as a rule then?

Tbh though, I'm not sure why you are being confrontational, I just was asking about alternatives for curiosity reasons. It's nothing I'm really invested in, just wanted to explore.

and without proper statistical method and model, you can claim anything and get a radicalized internet to believe it

It's wild how we have simplified all modern complex issues to "it's because of the (fill in the blank extremely popular bad guys)"

Guess it's not worth thinking about the actual issues.

The article says they are allowed to test the new indicators in those States, not that they get a legal pass...

In California, the permit will let Mercedes-Benz trial turquoise lights on test vehicles for two years. In Nevada, the automaker can start adding the feature to 2026 year production vehicles

Do you think it's a better scenario for less awareness of self driving cars? If self driving is part of the future, this seems like a reasonable step imo.

?

I was just showing one of many examples from the article that the activists weren't "being charged for being attention to deplorable conditions in animal farms" but actual other crimes.

Just curious. Would saying something like "youngin" be considered a slur as well then?
