signal protocol is basically the opposite, open source but the company is hostile to 3rd party client development

Thrift stores in America are usually corporate and not for charity. Or, they pretend to be charities (but aren't)

Goodwill is fucking evil.

"It's installed by default and all my friends are on it" - 50% of Americans

They don't need to worry about the fact that the other half of Americans are not able to comfortably message them, or participate in group chats, because those are people poorer than them that they might not even want to interact with anyways. Some of them might even be not white.

This becomes even more extreme as ages become younger, with around 98% of college age students and younger having iPhones (this is obviously biased to higher income colleges in metropolitian area but the data is still useful). The peer pressure of not having an iPhone is genuinely incredible (trust me, i experience it). I have genuinely had people stop wanting to be friends with me once they learned I had an Android phone.

Apple has a monopoly so powerful that they influence the social circles of almost every grade schooler and college student in America. This is why they don't want to give it up.

My point is basically that matrix/element is arguable the much more ethical chat solution because of its openess still with a focus on security.

This is exactly what the article said

GrapheneOS is specifically designed for hardware with certain hardware security features, as in the lead developer will not support anything that doesn't have these. Leading it to only really being available for Pixels (but some niche company is supposed to be getting an official grapheneos version soom i believe)

Lineageos is the "runs on anything" rom.

Obsidian is not open source.

Don't use Raspberry pi.

Oversimplified and in many cases is not good advice. Raspberry Pis are perfectly capable low cost home servers that absolutely sip power and take up little room.

Mini pc's such as dell optiplex micro's and intel nucs are also a good consideration.

The readme states:

"This repo also serves as an updated version of the original neofetch since the upstream dylanaraps/neofetch doesn't seem to be maintained anymore (as of Oct 27, 2023, the original repo hasn't merged a pull request for almost 2 years). If you only want to use the updated neofetch without pride flags, you can use the neofetch script from this repo. To prevent command name conflict, I call it neowofetch :)"

Security is probably the most important, but there are also general chat utility features such as replies and read receipts.

There's a lot that I could say, but it simply boils down to them always favoring their corporate and ceo's interests over their charitable ones.

Their ceo (and branch ceo's) make obscene amounts of money.

Theres also that case and probably even more about an autistic woman being paid like less than 25c an hour.

Probably "evil" isn't the right word, but they absolutely do not have "good-will"

dyson is in every sense the apple of vacuums lol

Minetest simply doesn't have the content catalog of Minecraft, for a game that the appeal is the fact you can pretty much never get bored of it, that's a massive drawback.

stay theory was shut down and absorbed by intercept games

just so everyone is aware grapheneos only support's pixels because it is specifically designed for taking advantage of the hardware security features found in google's tensor and titan chips. and thus installing it on another phone would kinda miss the point (and vastly increase the scope of the project)

google is also basically the best company when it comes to phones for custom roms, as they provide stock images, a simple bootloader unlocking process (that doesn't void your warranty as far as i can tell), and generally the aosp and software support that comes from being the phone of the developer of android.

Well yes obviously but it does serve a purpose as a maintained fork, that's why I included that. I expect a normal fork will be made soon because of this news.

Spotify literally changed the way people listen to music by being popular enough that the general way of listening changed from a purchase, listen forever model. To a listen to anything you want and never not have anything new, way of listening (but you don't own anything).

A song is no longer worth a purchase of a cd, or dollar at itunes. It's worth the 3 minutes of listening that it gives you when Spotify recommends it to you.

Obviously I'm biased. And also, yes, there were streaming services before Spotify, but nobody that mattered and with the influence of Spotify.

Pretty sure people have said this for like 10 years

I think watching apple's promotional videos will explain a lot of your concerns better.

I'm curious why you want an intel cpu over an amd one

the play services are not installed by default*

Know that you'll probably hate what you try first. Personally I say you shouldn't use Pop_OS!, but its better than being scared of making a wrong choice. "distrohopping" is a great way to learn.

tldr: just do it

It just depends if it's something people need

They've already promoted the idea of connecting a dualsense controller for playing games.

use a "gcam port"

it will probably run kaios, so yes

You realize how massive of a marketing pull both of those are right, the 1000 dollar wheels were like 20% why people didn't forget the mac pro 2 days after it was announced.

South Georgian here, we also call it this.

*ruin your year

I'm majorly blaming these people when Trump wins.

You did not address their main point, which is that there simply isn't a candidate that has a better, or even comparable, chance of winning.

Approval ratings are also notoriously inaccurate, especially for dems.
