Apparently Ai can't do average or ugly people.

You are first safe from jealousy and as a product safe from people wanting to use deep fakes against you

Microsoft is so confident in its desktop marketshare that they allow themselves to push the overton window on what users will tolerate.

The only competitor they can lose users to is Apple. And even then not everyone can afford an Apple computer, especially in the rest of the world

OEM have no incentive to ship Linux in their laptops. Plus they get discounts from Microsoft for using windows. So that's not gonna happen

It would be naive to expect Google to be broken by anti-trust laws, just look how microsoft dodged that in the 2000 and went back to the same practices today . this is a circus show

The DRM will be so interwoven into the core engine that they won't be able to remove it. chromium is a sinking ship

Aren't apps on android hermetically sealed from other apps and malware. How could this be achieved ?

For a moment I thought this post was about the LTT host. And was like they could replace him with any of his doppelgangers in the group and no one will notice.

Now the question is could lemmy instances resist such subpoenas in courts, especially those falling under US or EU jurisdiction ?

This place shall not die. Keep the party going guys.

So Japan is telling us, that intellectual property is holding back its progress in AI. so are they recognizing that IP is a hinderess to progress and innovation ? should we expect this to nullify other IP legislation ? is this heading to court?

It is headed the way of quora. Where almost every response is a marketing post. Those who stayed on reddit aren't bothered by this anyways.

They have no leverage over the monopoly google has on the browsers marketshare. the only people who can change things are the end users by switching over to non-chromium browsers, but we all know this won't happen

I bet they can scrape Lemmy content for free then. There are no legal mechanisms to prevent them from doing so.

Funny how the EU just recently found them to NOT be gate keepers.

There is one good example of a good FOSS project with reliable funding and a thriving community, which is blender.

You know why blender is a success unlike other projects . Because it a very complicated piece of software that most of the community can't just fork or start another project. so for FOSS projects to thrive they need more convergence of developpers to the same project . rather than divergence of efforts into multiple of projects. I know that this is not how FOSS works. but the reality is that without an urge to devellop projects in rivalary with the commercial ones. the resulting quality will always be mediocre.

another problem is the lack of proper documentation, It it very hard and time consuming to get familiarised with complex project codes. many of them are lacking proper documentation to encouraged newer devs to join in. the reality is that this takes time away from coding into documentation, but its an important ressource to encourage growth and participtation.

Reddit was goining the way of the other big tech players, removing API for third party apps, maybe will remove old.reddit.com next ? force everyone to sign-up using their phone number, using your real names instead of nicknames, verifying your identity using goverment issued ID.

the sign is on the wall but the majority of people are fine with that, look how facebook hit the record of 3 billion users a month. these corps are too big to fail.

emphasis on the

… for accounts you actually give a shit about

We need help communities on Lemmy. That's what is going to make it rank in SEO and fly. Communities like software help (office, adobe creative products, etc), financial help and advice. And ask docs communities.

Memes won't help SEO rank.

It is not harder, windows is just playing find the config toggles with its users. it's like easter all year long.

This is youtube being salty about people not wanting them to keep track of their watch list. because even without it youtube could make a lot of bucks by just suggesting based of other parameters. They are betting on nudging people the way they want.

And it will cost me a kidney !

No thanks. Happy to have left karma farms. Upvote wh*res. Hive minds. Karma gates and shadow bans. Keep this place open to diversity of opinions.

With about a thousand new daily sign ups to mastodon it feels like it is going back to its rapid degrowth that it has been on before the Twitter debacle.

Color me skeptical

The Foss community already tried for years. And the gap is widening even more thanks to AI.

I thought waiting a line with 30 to 40 people ahead was a nightmare, until I saw the Brits queuing for a mile to see the deceased queen. That day I realized no one can beat the Brits at queuing.

DotCom bubble 2.0

They killed the canteen. The food went from bearable to shit. That was their way of nudging employees to quit.

Is there any coordination with The other fediverse projects (mainly mastodon) and mastodon client developpers to enhance the interoperability with each other.

for instance being able to flawlessly post to lemmy and get notified about replies to your mastodon instance in a more convenient and user friendly way. where mastodon and its clients recognizes that a reply is comming from a lemmy server and displays it in a threaded way.

  • to stops showing every comment on posts made to community I follow as a separate post. it fills up the timeline. I know it's something to work on from the mastodon side. but maybe there are things lemmy can help improve.

This is AI gaslighting .

For Linux desktop to grow past the single digit market share it is at today. It needs to be led by tech visionaries not by code evangelists . The average user doesn't care about if it's running Wayland or x11 or whatever shit you name it they only care about their OS having all the features they need and support all the latest hardware they buy.

Add to that any average Joe would freeze at the prospect of having to enter a command line to maintain their computer or use their firewall. In short for Linux to grow it needs to copy windows or macOS otherwise it will keep being used by nerds and sys admins

Just for looks. They will end up approving it just like with the Activision buy out.

You must have a divine trust in those equipments to even consider this.

Some teachers deserve all the good in the world.

Hope they don't take away the sandbox. It is very handy for testing sketchy software.
