Programs are mathematical proofs. If maths cannot be patented, software can't be, either.

If it's on company time, it's fine.

Former managers of Deutsche Bahn did not care to invest into modernization. Managers get money for showing and keeping plus in their Excel sheets. They leave the company with all kinds of bonuses for that and risk no repercussions.

The next generation of managers are simply fucked. They inherit all the neglected infrastructure and bad processes.

Additionally politics made it even worse. They told the managers that repairs are not a matter of subsidies. Only new infrastructure is supported. So Deutsche Bahn literally let the tracks and stations rot until they need to be totally renewed.

This all based on absolute greed. And the best is you can harm Germany for free without any risks and keep all your money. No one here would get the idea to jail the responsible people who let it happen.

Adobe has already proved they don't understand web technologies when creating Flash.

You're right. So many people to thank here. One thing you cannot deny is that Valve is one of few companies that loves gaming on Linux and it deserves a huge credit.

Probably not, because it's a lie.

Partially off topic, but I won't buy OnePlus anymore, because they lock down the bootloader.

I am not a guy who blindly trusts technology. Why go forward when you cannot see what's in front of you? How can that happen?

AFAIK Google makes a disclaimer about it. A bridge can also be destroyed on the same day, so...

I honestly hear the first time about this. Who sends you share requests?

The system is broken when you have to discuss your health with judges instead of a doctor.

It's not only the price. I simply don't want to have iOS devices. I like their technology and the iOS implementation, don't misunderstand me. But I won't accept a walled garden in my pocket. I have so much software installed from different sources and I like to write apps by myself, too.

Many people are only happy with unlimited possibilities. If you are restricted and not trusted as a power user, your phone is not worth to be called "smart".

Another shitty country on my list where I'll avoid to travel to. Thanks for the hint.

I have never understood what this green bubble is. I thought it was plainly aesthetic. Now you both tell me Apple deliberately breaks stuff in an infectious way just because an Android user is around. Apple is evil. I will never buy any stuff from them.

Good job!

It's especially a problem to explain that you don't have any particular popular social media account.

TIL my identity is worth $1 a year.

No wait. They should elect Putin, then invite him for a celebration.

Sooner or later everyone will find their way to Debian. It's boring and it works.

The exact group which is officially declared as "evil" does not matter. Using a scapegoat is the point. Hiding complex problems and present "simple solutions". People are scared of problems they cannot solve themselves. They want someone to solve them.

(My opinion) No, you aren't paranoid. I'm thinking a bit like you, but I also consider probabilities. You need to download the checksums from the official website and the ISO from mirrors. Two different sources would need to be hacked. This is where I say, it's hard and secondly someone would notice that hack very quickly.

Signing the ISO or the checksums with a well-known signature is still important. I verify it, if a signature available. It's just a couple of seconds and doesn't cost anything.

Of course, but OP wanted to implicate that this worm stays local in a network. You need an USB stick to carry it over.

93000 mails since 2008 are just 2,1 GB. I have an archive on my home server where I also host my main IMAP server. I just move them from the inbox to Archives.YEAR.

Usually, they can, if there are risk of violence appearing. You're allowed to protest peacefully, but the current situation suggests the protest would be based on anger and maybe provocation.

Poor Putin. No one believes you that all these hospitals, kindergardens and playgrounds were in the way to make peace in Ukraine.

I totally believe it. And I think that all the people who don't believe you, should accidentally fall out of windows or down the stairs.

I think SteamOS might help a bit, but the driving factor might be that Microsoft decided to ditch much of good hardware on their upgrade path to Windows 11.

As far as I know, most religions even forbid killing people for whatever reason you might have.

There is a lot of power to waste for the savings you made, when not buying expensive SSDs (20€ a year is not much). Where we use HDDs, we don't care about noise. Durability? We use huge RAID systems with lots of redundancy.

I personally like to swap new drives after 5 years to avoid failures. So when you find a 16 TB SSD for 350€, you send me a message.

I get confused by non-modal text editors.

Every time someone cries about hardware not being supported, you find out they didn't care to look up compatibility. You can also ask the vendor, if you're lost.

It's like you buy a Diesel car and complain that it it's annyoing because it breaks when you fill in gasoline.

Or Jitsi Meet. And it's not only free, but it can be run be everyone.

I use FairEmail, too. I didn't like GMail and K9.

From a private end user point of view yes. But in enterprises Windows and Office is successful. Lots of money is going to Microsoft here.

We're talking about AfD. They don't even hide the fact that they are nazis. People who vote for them never really learned from history.

I just bought it for my son. I'm writing this to let you know that you're responsible for this. 😜

No one answers the question. I have never used Discord, only Matrix and have the opposite question.

Matrix is a chat protocol. The clients support chat with styling and sending media, post reactions or polls, telephony (voice and video) and can integrate many other features like video conferences. One feature that is also well known are protocol bridges. You can connect to other chat protocols (like IRC) and have one single client.

It makes sense to approve things and keep navigating in one direction. What was the original problem?

Thanks for the explanation. Since KBin is more fragmented and does not build up enough steam for further development, it's maybe a better option to move to Lemmy at this point.

It was getting better after the circuit board came off. (also: gifs that end too soon)

SimpleX Chat has got many features that these kinds of tools need. It's also open and focused on security. You'll need it eventually, if you're in a hostile environment.

I use LaTeX. I needed to learn a lot about it to use it, but it's the only thing that can set letters, paragraphs and book structure properly.
