I like recipes and games, both digital and analog. I'm an increasingly old fart with kids who knows a little bit about a lot of things.

I had a big pink salt block, and I'd heard you could use salt blocks directly on heat to cook. Warmed it up, got really excited... Found out that the salt block has to be particularly selected and tested or it will explode along fault lines, loudly and dangerously all over your kitchen.

For cedar planks you wanna soak them in water for a few hours first my friend

And? Are you concerned they're going to break into your house and depose the bourgeoisie because you followed a community on their instance?

Just had one of those conversations the other day, where "We don't want racists around here" met with "why don't you like conservatives". It's funny when they tell on themselves like that.

Sounds like a pretty good meal without the switch though, got a recipe?

Yeah. I think the issue in NMS is that they keep adding new systems (good) that do the same things as other systems (hmm) and can't interface with those systems (bad). Like, why is town building not at all like base building? Why does base building have its own rudimentary town building part, but it kinda just stops? Why do they have beautifully realized frigates in space, and crashed frigates ont he ground, but no relationship between the two?

I really want to love it, it contains essentially everything I like in a game, but it just constantly falls short on depth each time. I'm due to go back and sink another few hours into it but I also feel pretty confident that I'll finish off again feeling the ache of missed opportunity.

All that, and also I just think the writing in the game is phenomenally bland. It's not bad at all, it just never captures my interest in the slightest. I'd love to get my hands on the basic framework of the story and totally rewrite it.

It isn't at all a no true Scotsman argument, what are you talking about?

You can be a leftist and not be bigoted. Bigots also join the left, we can't help that, but that's because they personally are bigoted, not because the ideology is. In fact, most modern leftism argues that bigotry is fundamentally at odds with the core ideals, and in my experience a majority of the left, at least in English speaking countries, wants to distance these people.

You cannot be a fascist without being bigoted. Being bigoted is part of the ideology. It aims to spread and teach bigotry, that's the purpose of it.

No true Scotsman would be "yeah but the anti Semitic leftists aren't real leftists", which isn't what anyone said.

1 more...

A 3d srardew valley style game where you play as a Hobbit would be just... Sooooo good. Nice

Spent so much cognitive effort making sure my kids didn't feel hamstrung by gender roles. Wound up with two kids who identify at least partly as non-binary, and have chosen their roles as much on their own as I think they can reasonably do.

Of course both of them, hilariously, wound up choosing incredibly typical gender-aligned stuff. The "amab" NB kid loves machines, Lego, spaceships, engineering, explosions, and anything STEM. The "afab" NB kid loves puppies, pink stuff, flowers, dresses, helping with household chores, cooking, and scorpions. Typical girl stuff.

Not ascribing any deeper meanings. I just think it's cute and funny.

The outer wilds is mostly pretty chill and relaxing and one of the best games I've ever played. Don't look up spoilers if you pick it. It's a game about exploring and curiosity
