The ACLU defends civil liberties for everyone and is an overall force for good. Nazis have the right to say nazi shit here. Them being morally repugnant wastes of space has little to do with their right to free speech. The government cannot limit protected speech and that's a good thing.

Also the ACLU has nothing to do with corrupt cops being violent pigs. Actually, they fight to end qualified immunity for those very people:

https://www.aclu.org/news/criminal-law-reform/ending-qualified-immunity-once-and-for-all-is-the-next-step-in-holding-police-accountable

That's how I react to those bubbles. It means any image I send is going to be compressed to shit and be utterly unrecognizable. Messages will sent out of order or not at all. Group chats are completely fucked.

I'm sure Apple shares a lot of the blame, but holy shit how is this not solved in 2024. I shouldn't have to resort to spam filled shitware from Meta to get remotely modern messaging cross platform

Hope rcs pans out and soon

You had the option to not post this

For real... like Mr. Putin sir, we don't want Russia. In fact, I must insist that you keep it

It is one of the only nations in the world - and the only one in Europe - that provides the constitutional right to bear arms.

Thats kinda the point! New engine for new cool features and graphics but same core gameplay. They've improved a lot of things. I think the CS audience is excited for this, but they haven't done anything over-the-top different to attract net new players

Yep, let's not forget who controls the purse. You just know this is going to get spun 🙄

Like a normal person? Not a good metric. I'm sure there are plenty of creepy looking dudes who wouldn't dream of water-boarding you for days.

  1. Why do you have to ship a source map? It compiles to vanilla js
  2. Not sure what editor, but in neovim (which uses tsserver on my end for LSP) I can either jump to the type declaration or the actual implementation. This is a tooling problem not inherent to typescript
  3. This doesn't make any sense. You'd have the same problem with minified js or css etc.
  4. It means they are forced to use types properly and do the tiniest bit of thinking and planning that results in fewer type errors (think undefined variables and properties, etc)

Not a bad summary, but I take issue with all the points

Edit: The sourcemap comment is relevant to package size and not to final bundle size per the HN comment linked below. Also, the cmd+click critique rings truer now that I know it's in the context of an installed package. Another critique is build time which is fair enough.

Don't feel that way. This is a highly specific role with a ton of not-necessarily-connected tech. Python, C++, Rust and calling out Java? Strange. You don't need to know any of this stuff to be successful. If you just know javascript, that's enough for many, many roles.

Youll find that if you understand the patterns you're using in JS, you can apply them to many other languages. Other languages will have different syntaxes and maybe slightly different patterns, but you can always apply what you know, which will make it easier to add more languages to your arsenal.

You'll feel like you have no idea what you're doing for a long time, but all the while you have picked up a ton of knowledge and experience that you will still probably discount. Just be eager to learn and don't sell yourself too short.

Life imprisonment is cheaper (in the US) for the taxpayer than execution. Morally, I think the death penalty does not have a leg to stand on. Even in the most egregious cases, who truly has the right to end a life? Can any justice system be 100% accurate? If there is even a slim chance that an innocent could be murdered by the state, the state should not murder. It's valid to have a visceral reaction to horrific crimes like this, but to advocate for murdering even of a guilty party just doesn't mesh with at least my ethics

I think that you don't even notice yourself maturing because it is so gradual. It comes very slowly with life experience. You don't do something impulsive or you handle an emotional situation a little better or you make a difficult decision that younger you wouldn't. I think back to even just a few years ago sometimes and think "What a fuckin idiot that guy was". Sounds like pretending to be mature is almost the same thing as being it

What about those crusade things I've heard so much about

Not only can it be bypassed, but anti cheat with kernel level access can be used to distribute malware or spyware if it is compromised. Whether your personal anecdotes reflect the actual statistics or not, these anti cheats are dangerous and are not impenetrable.

Are you aware the majority of Americans are not jewish but were subjected to genital mutilation after birth? It is not a religious thing here primarily, it's a practice that was started by a prude named Kellog to explicitly make it more difficult to masturbate and because it is "cleaner," which is a dubious claim at best.

It's very clearly written by someone who is anti-"sjw" and loathes to see the discussion of racial issues. It screams white fragility, which goes hand in hand with alt right conspiracy garbage. It has such a conspiratorial tone... meanwhile none of this info is a secret.

He was paid $341,346 in cash. The rest of the compensation is basically monopoly money until they IPO, and even then it depends on the valuation, strike price, etc. Very much a clickbait tactic since most people don't ever deal with options at a scale like this, or at all.

You must be referring to the peaceful tour in which people were bludgeoned, trespassed, and shot in an attempt to stop the certification of a democratic election. Please don't exaggerate!! (:

Honestly? Kinda hate cs2. It runs worse (3080ti btw), most of my smoke grenades no longer work, they removed team deathmatch, they removed short competitive matches, and you can no longer play csgo. The more I play the less I'm a fan

preeeetty sure they're joking since the reason trump is in this situation is an anti communist law

It's an accountability problem. If Wal Mart doesn't know who delivered your stuff, how can they address problems? Was your stuff delivered? Stolen? Property defaced? Who bears responsibility? Are they doing background checks? How do they know they aren't paying someone unauthorized to work in the US? I personally think everyone should be allowed to work here regardless of status, but I have to think there are serious considerations and implications for the business
