Perhaps !asexual@lemmy.world?

Only created a week ago, but it has a few active subscribers, could be worth checking out

I must have missed a memo. Why did beehaw defederate with lemmy.world/sh.itjust.works?

I really want to like Lemmy, but if we can randomly lose access to content like that, it leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

"'I never thought leopards would eat MY face,' sobs woman who voted for the Leopards Eating People's Faces Party."

When I read Hitchhiker's Guide, I pronounced it b'tell-jew-EEss

There's a thought that:

Never make fun of people for mispronouncing a word. It means they learned it by reading

Best I understand, this is a quote without a known attribution

This is the same (based) judge that previously ruled that the GAC ban for minors was unconditional.

The new ruling overturns the part of the ban that restricted Medicaid funding for going to GAC for adults.

Does anyone know what parts of the bill are still active? I'm guessing the requirement for informed consent is still required, but I don't know what else

I have such mixed feelings about this. The show ended in such a perfect way (as it did the prior the times), but more Futurama is more Futurama

I had to look a list of prequels, since I was having trouble just remembering some.

  • Might not be the greatest, but I remember really liking Rouge One

  • Cruella was a blast, but I could see people arguing that the main character was a completely different person than who was in the 101 Dalmations

  • The Thing (2011) did a good job, with some criticisms (over use of CGI). It was never going to be as great as the original, but I still enjoyed it

Currently in Florida, don't have immediate plans to move. My mother-in-law is recently widowed, so we want to stay close.

I'm trans, but I also live with a lot of personal privilege (well paying job with non-state insurance, white, married, liberal city, no kids, haven't faced direct discrimination). The particular set of laws that Florida has passed are limited in how they affect me.

That's not to say i don't care -- I'm actually livid with my state government. Many of my trans/queer friends have rightly left the state already, but I personally can stay around for longer to push back as I can

I've spoken to my brother in Illinois, and if worse comes to worse, i have somewhere I can go if Florida becomes unlivable

Always fun to learn something new. I've primarily used vim since 2016, and i never knew g_ to jump to last non-space character in the line

I wish I could see the crash logs to actually get insight as to specifically why jorbia is crashing for me

Whisk(e)y drinker here, preferring neat. I like all types, especially if they are sherry-finished.

I like too many for a concise list.

I think Stranahan's is the best bottle most people sleep on. It's a Single Malt made in the US, so most Scotch drinkers dismiss it because "it's not made in Scotland", but most American drinkers are looking more for Rye and Bourbon flavors. It's just delicious imo

Ardbeg Wee Beastie is another favorite. Peated Scotches aren't for everyone, but I think it has a great "campfire" quality

Navazos Palazzi is a Spanish whiskey that we really like, and it's one i never recommend to beginners. It's harsh and sweet, but somehow it works. I've heard it described as "maple cookie covered in fresh pavement", although I think it evokes more of that cut up tire that you can find on some playgrounds. It's basically "fuck you" in a glass, in the best possible way

For cocktails, i always go for Coke and Makers, with some grenadine.

My great, great uncle was Gene Krupa, a popular/influential swing drummer in the 1920s through 1940s. By contrast, i have absolutely zero musical talent.

My third cousin, once removed (that is, my father's third cousin) is Mike Shanahan, the former head coach for the Denver Broncos

Not a family relation, but someone famous I know... I taught a Roller Derby clinic alongside Erin Jackson, who won the Gold Metal at the most recent Olympics in speed skating

Honestly, I put little stock into these relationships. They're little more than personal trivia at this point

Asteroid City, The Blackening, and Elemental are the three big movies in theaters i want to see, but I won't have a chance to until next week.

I don't think it makes a "good story", but my parents have accepted me.

My uncle is an established child psychology reaearcher (had been "chief psychologist" and "assistant director" at multiple children's hospitals. When I came out, they reached out to my uncle to ask for advice (especially for how sudden it appeared to them, when it was literally since I was a young teen for me), which he basically replied "if [dead name] is talking to you about this, it's something they've been dealing with for a long time". I think this helped them a lot

My parents took some time to come to terms with my transition. They struggled with my new name and using the right pronouns, but they put in the work, and we have a fairly solid relationship now. We were never super close (still aren't), but I have no qualms giving them a call sometimes, or spending holidays with them.

Fugitive is a common git plugin for Vim. If you're not using vim, not much to check out. If you are, highly recommend it!

Jerboa 0.0.35 upgraded automatically for me.

At first it was crashing frequently, but it seems to have gotten somewhat better. Hopefully it will continue to improve

Action games and adventure games used to be two separate genres, deleted

I'm generally a vanilla person, so i haven't done anything yet.

I do Roller Derby (play and officiate), so at this point, I know more people with tattoos than without. I've wanted something for a while now, but generally haven't because of the fear of commitment.

I've found an idea I really like, have started talking to people for recommendations for an artist.

In derby, bruises are extremely common because it's a full contact sport. You can be kicked or grabbed or hit the floor, or fall on someone's wheels, and these bruises can be beautiful, changing all sorts of colors and shades and patterns. There's a gallary of example "Derby Kisses" where a photographer recorded some stunning examples: https://riikkahyvonen.com/roller-derby-kisses

I want to get a tattoo of a wheel bruise with it blending into a galaxy, since space has been another long-term obsession, would get it outside my right thigh where I've had bruises just like the ones above. I just really like this concept, and I'm hoping I can find someone to realize it for me

My overall journey was the GameFAQS message boards -> Digg -> Reddit (via RIF) -> Lemmy

Lemmy has filled my content aggregation desires while boycotting Reddit. Overall, I could see being here to stay

I'm still having minor issues, but they aren't deal breakers. Like, I've had issues with my up votes not saving (press it, turns blue, wait a second, then it changes back), so I need to press it multiple times before it saves. On the whole, these errors will be resolved with time, so it doesn't bother me much

Main issue I'm trying to figure out now is: how to use federated users for other Lemmy instances. If I'm using the website for beehaw, then go to another instance, it appears I need to sign in, but I can't see how to use my beehaw account. I started using Jerboa and it seems to handle it, but the comments I'm making don't show up (when I checked in a browser), so it might be in the UI only, or I'm missing something

Thanks for the update and for the link to the reasoning -- I had completely missed it.

Based on the initial post (only mentioning defederation without linking to the Details), it sounded like the three servers had a falling-out of some sort, but this sounds reasonable. I can appreciate the difficulty of trying to maintain a welcoming environment.

From a user perspective, I think I'm mostly frustrated with the lack of visibility with these changes, specifically trying to keep track of what I do and don't have access to. I don't think that's the responsibility of beehaw to implement, but I might continue to look for solutions

I think the concept is intuitive and interesting, but the implementation/interface isn't.

Groovy. Thank you

You have :vim: in your user's "tags" (flair? desc? Idk). I haven't found a good vim community on Lemmy, so I'm interested if you have a recommendation.

I guess that would make "community discovery" as a particular thing I'm having some difficulty with. Getting better as I'm getting more familiar with everything, but it is a pain point

Separate frustration.

I was commenting on a post that got deleted, wrote a technical comment about the same length as this comment, but it turns out the post was deleted, so i just wasted a bunch of time.

I've had the same issue in the past with Reddit, so it's not any different than usual, but just another pain point that would be nice to resolve

Thanks for the reply.

I've been playing around a bit, and I was able to subscribe to communities in non-beehaw instances, and they are showing up in my feed. That's now working as expected.

I made a comment in another instance (!chibears@1337lemmy.com) in the "Bold Predictions?" thread. I can see the comment in my profile, and the thread shows 13 comments when I view it in Beehaw, but going directly to the 1337lemmy.com website, shows 12 comments and my comment is missing.

This doesn't make sense to me. It's not clear what's causing the two views to appear differently. I'm assuming the two instances aren't federating the user properly or something. I would expect an error message or warning if I'm not allowed to post.

Any thoughts what's going on here?

You're awesome, thank you.

I saw the "instances" link at the bottom, but I assumed it was just a variation on the join-lemmy.org site (which I see is another one of the links down there). Please forgive me, still learning the platform :-)

Orlando is objectively a queer friendly city, but they don't have any pride events in June.

There's an unofficial event each June called "Disney World Gay Days" (not affiliated with Disney themselves, who just treat it like any other summer day), so Orlando moved their pride celebration to October instead. I think it's understandable, but it always sucks to feel left out from the rest of the queer community.

I've actually have never been to Pride, since other things tend to conflict, and social anxiety in general. This year, I will definitely participate (motivated by the phrase: "Pride is a Protest"). I've been "openly queer" for the last 5ish years, but I haven't been "openly trans", but I'm taking steps to own that identity, at least more openly. Perhaps people can clock me as trans, but no one ever says anything, so i think I might currently qualify as "stealth", but I feel like I don't pass. Just in that weird superposition.

I have at least one symbolic gesture I want to make this June. I play Women's Flat Track Roller Derby, and I want to fly the trans flag during my player intro. It's a very small thing to do, but trans athletics has been under attack, so I feel like choosing to be a visible trans athlete is something i need to do

Also Port Wines. It's what we got into before started falling into the Whiskey rabbit hole

Good to hear. So many people have written off Elemental, saying the trailer makes it look generic, like Pixar has lost their touch. Thing is, Disney and Pixar have a recent history of making boring or generic trailers, only for the movies to be great.

Unless it was met with poor critical reception, i would probably see it anyway

Haha, i guess that means you didn't care for it, if it sparked that particular conversation

Thinking about it, i think you're right.

It's been a while since I've seen it, but didn't it "okay things safe", just retread many of the same plot beats while making relatively superficial changes?

I totally get not wanting too critical on movies, especially when you're involved in the process yourself.

I deleted most of my comment because what i had written was basically nonsense.

The main point that i was going for is that "action adventure" isn't a useless category, since it's a hybrid of two separate genres.

You can have non-action adventure games. Something like A Short Hike comes to mind. It didn't need to turn/text based explicitly, but that's common.

You can also have action non-adventure games. You mentioned pong, but this could be anything that requires real time responses and control. Beat-em-ups are common.

Action-Adventures are hybrids of the two: real time inputs with discovery elements

Yup 0.0.35, and the exact same set of issues.

It's just the first day or two, I couldn't go 10 minutes without crashing. Now it still crashes a couple times per day, but it lasts more like an hour or two

This is just my experience with Jerboa

A TV Show (or cartoon) based around Among Us, feels like they missed the boat on Among Us popularity.

Then again, I loved Infinity Train, wish the show wasn't cut short by Zaslav's budget cuts. I could see Among Us being similar to The Thing (one of my favorite horror movies), i think there's a chance it's a good show

I personally disagree that the original is best. It's high up there, but I think some of the later titles have improvements that eek out the #1 spot.

I'm a fan of the "piece swap" feature, and later games have polished the piece lock over the original. Tetris 99 was the sweet spot for games that I've played.

I'm looking for something like this (queer/trans memes). Could you link the community?
