I don't understand why anyone idolizes this bastard. There are too many bootlickers out there, which is why nothing ever changes and assholes like him can continue to exploit people.

Tesla is also known for its shit build quality. So why not buy an EV from practically anyone else?

Just played 4 hours. Not saying whether the game is good or bad, but I'm not seeing the point of the spaceship yet.

It's looks like merely a medium for the fast traveling mechanic. You can't really "move" in space (as far as ive tried), and can't use it to fly within a planet.

I expected being able to manually travel from planet A to planet B and finding cool stuff along the way. If you wanna actually move you need to fast travel.

I also expected to be able to get in my ship and go from place A to place B within the same planet (also finding cool stuff along the way). It seems that also is just done by fast traveling only.

From their FAQ, looks like Unity doesn't have any real way of dealing with pirated or fake installs. Their FAQ says you have to work with them when that happens so they can correct your bill. It doesn't say Unity will automatically filter those installs out.

Youtube is getting on cable tv levels of bad. On a regular ~10min video you will first deal with a few preroll ads and at least one is unskippable, then the creator will have a 2+ minute sponsor segment (I don't mind those since they are usually well presented). There will also be multiple midroll ad spots.

Depending on video length, it's gonna soon be literally more ad than video. They are still stealing and selling your data though, and also making the web worse for everyone with DRM shit.

Fuck. Google.

I had already migrated to Invidious since last year because I degoogled everything. Seems like now its time to look for real youtube alternatives.

Officially no, but the wording on the FAQ says it's the developer's job to take it up with them to resolve it. So it's clear they don't have any safeguard and only after you're affected you can talk to them lmfao.

Does the Unity Runtime Fee apply to pirated copies of games? We are happy to work with any developer who has been the victim of piracy so that they are not unfairly hurt by unwanted installs.

Same thing goes for "install-bombing":

We are not going to charge a fee for fraudulent installs or “install bombing.” We will work directly with you on cases where fraud or botnets are suspected of malicious intent.

So not only are the fees outrageous, but now devs are responsible for making sure this whole system isn't being abused. It's not gonna be long until people figure out how the install count is updated, and will proceed to weaponize it lmfao.

I recommend Okular for PDF reading. No ads, no upsells, no BS. It also has native dark mode

Flashback of fallout 76 support ticket shitshow lmao

This is a common pattern in content creators. As they grow their goals shift into running a production machine that maximizes earnings, throwing away any values or standards they started with.

Just look at LTT/LMG. It's not gonna get better, so you could watch someone else who still values things other than money.

If the team is finding out that their job ends on the same day, it's totally Google's doing, and not the vendor company.

Google loves cheap, disposable workers, that why half of their workers are contractors.

This is a bigger issue to leave it to users imo. Like lemm.ee admin said a few months ago, threads is too fucking big.

Anything they push on the fediverse will be what users see in All. Plus, popular stuff on threads is determined through Facebook's algorithm, and it will also determine the fediverse recommendations by consequence.

The above is solvable if you block them I guess, but by default it will completely ruin everything.

However, lemmy 0.19 block feature doesn't work on users of an instance, only posts hosted in an instance. Add to this that Facebook is a cancerous company making all its money from ads. Expect their bots to comment and make posts pushing ads on all instances.

All of this will also mean high workload on mods to regulate the content. Threads doesn't bring anything good here, and defederation is probably the only way to protect us.

I've never given money to roku, and now I'll never will

Yeah this stuff was always marketed to automate simple and repetitive things we do daily. it's mostly the media I guess who started misleading everyone into thinking this was AI like skynet. It's still useful, not just as a all knowing AI god

All I need from youtube are my handful of subscriptions and my watch later, so I have moved on to invidious. I'd recommend it

I usually find reasons to keep using microsoft products, but right now it's the first time I'm seriously considering ditching all my microsoft services for FOSS and move to linux.

It's gonna take a lot of effort and time migrating everything I use, but taking literal screenshots of your PC sounds fucking creepy, no matter how they sugar coat it. It's like someone else literally watching all you do.

Usually you know they get your data, but now they want exactly what you are seeing and exactly what you are doing, taking it right out of your screen. It's literal and plain spyware.

I have degoogled for a few years already, now I guess it's microsoft's turn.

I thought elon was supposed to be smart

egs

The dictionary says it's fine /s

It's usable, but instances now deal with frequent rate-limits and you'll see 429 errors quite often.

Didn't bother reading their entire docs, but this all looks gamified as fuck. I knew this would happen, with these stupid points ingrained in every aspect of the site everything just became predatory and hostile unless you pay. It's literally a game of "free2play" users grinding whatever is needed to get points (which probably is not feasible) vs buying the "special subscriptions".

Then the introduction is laughable, I want to peek into the brains of these mfers who not even weeks ago were taking subreddits from mods by force, and now preach of community independence from platforms.

  • You can go vegan, vegetarian, or at the very least eat less/no red meat.
  • Swap if you can your energy plan to use renewables
  • Plant a tree, native plants on your house
  • Vote for politicians who appear to give a shit
  • Buy from businesses who appear to give a shit
  • Stop unnecessary consumptions
  • Have no kids

That's some of what you can do really. Not that this will be much but at least you'll be doing someting

You forget that many simply don't care, like me. I stopped using anything google for a reason. Their services are usually lower quality than alternatives, might get shut down tomorrow, paying them doesn't stop your data from being milked, and they continually look for ways to make the internet worse. You're supporting the biggest ads company here...

I pay for 3+ streaming services, and all of them offer me a better deal than yt. It's not about paying for me. It's simply not worth it for my low use of the platform. I only ever look at my 20 subscriptions and my watch later playlist. Until that goes away I will block ads.

I'm just waiting for the next platform to pop up, it's gonna happen sooner or later and hopefully isn't cancer...

I dusted off an old laptop, put debian on it, put an SSD and now I have my own invidious instance, among other services...

No ads, no throttling, no bullshit. Google is very welcome to suck it. I'd gladly stop using youtube, but there's no competition.

The fuck is the point then? you get to pay to have the privilege of paying more for a mobile game?

All the netflix games I see are just shitty mobile games, nothing of value will be lost.

Didnt look at it like that tbh, and it makes sense now that I think about it.

I do remember seeing this popup way before the whole API & protests debacle. The warning doesn't even make sense, how will switching to the app to see the same content be safer?

I figured you needed to login (to apply your block list, filters, NSFW prefs, etc), but merely seeing the desktop mode of the website lets you through (not even using old.reddit). So this is another cheap way of forcing you to their cancer app.

Now you can't even SORT comments without using the app. They are really taking all pqges off Elon's book on ruining a website.

There is spaceship battles, not sure about random locations, but I'm guessing you'd also need to fast travel to those.

Also the spaceship is VERY customizable, so much in fact that I found it overwhelming lmao. Not saying that's bad thing, but you'd definitely need to come up with a lot of credits /loot first.

Again I only have 4 hours in game, so I don't really know much yet.

Tbh I have had a lot of fun with this game (35h in). It's an RPG first and space explorer second, nothing necessarily wrong with that.

I also learned that if you're tracking a quest you can use the grav drive right from the ship's HUD by selecting the locstion marker. It does help immersion a tiny bit more.

Overall it's what they promised, modders can anyways "fix" the shortcomings.

Wish I still had a reddit account to help write fuck u/spez

The same Linus who can't be arsed to spend $500 of various people's time to properly test a product is now telling us what to do?

Now that we are recommending alternatives, iPhone/iPad/Mac have Yattee. It uses Piped/Invidious as backend and is in the appstore

@SleeplessOne1917 seems to be their GitHub handle. You can see this by going to one of the pull requests that are linked in the thread (e.g instance block feature)

@cannotsleep420 seems to be their lemmy handle. You can see this by going to the thread link the OP posted, in which that account is commenting about the UI tweaks.

Both accounts list their location as 'Burgerland'(?) so they're most likely the same dev. Plus the 'SleeplessOne1917' lemmy handle you linked has absolutely no activity.

You can also see @cannotsleep420 crossposting earlier lemmy changelogs that mention @SleeplessOne1917...

Reminds me when foldable smartphones first came out. If you touched them wrong the screen got fucked.

My experience with work "friends" has always gone this way:

  1. I try to be friendly and approachable.
  2. People start asking you consistently for favors, help, and to stick up for them and their issues. I also find that the more they know about you, the easier it is to ask for shit ("hey I remember you said/are/live around/have X, so I was wondering if you could do Y for me")
  3. Once that happens it's impossible to shake them off without sounding like an asshole.

The only solution I see to this curse is to just avoid getting cornered in that situation. I avoid most socializing because of that.

Now add to this the fact I'm severely underpaid compared to the rest of the team (who do the same thing I do), that I got a promotion with no raise, and than my duties consistently increase, then it would be clear why I only do what's needed for the job.

Youtube is one of those things you can't avoid in practice. So if you don't like it what do you do? do you just miss out on most existing video content?

You can just use crypto for its intended purpose and not give a shit about the whole culture around it. I frequently use it to buy gift cards not available in my country, a VPN, and pay securely without giving away all my data.

The real issue is people coming and bastardizing the concept by trying to get rich, and treating it as some kind of gambling machine.

He didn't say "i don't believe in crypto because it's a scam" he said "I don't believe in crypto, except on its use as a scam" so it'd be great to hear why.

Nah, when I think whether it was worth it overwriting 10+ years worth of content in Reddit I just look over and see them come up with yet another shit move. It instantly validates getting off that sinking ship.

After fucking up API access they decided to delete all PMs older than 2023, get rid of awards/gold, and add more dark patterns to force people to their garbage apps.

Seems now that they're gonna add "tipping" as if it was a disgusting instagram clone with 'content creators'

They're quickly tearing down everything that made Reddit unique at all. They don't want a discussion board, they want a tiktok clone or whatever.

Laughs in Invidious

To be clear I just tried what the OP showed and could see the same thing, i forgot to add it in my comment
