GTFO with that "politics" bullshit. It stopped being a purely political difference when Trump made it about racism, sexism, and all other possible forms of bigotry. It stopped being about purely bigotry when he tried to stage a coup.

Above and beyond, you don't know their life. Maybe they needed a life-saving abortion and their father gleefully cackled when that right was effectively removed in many states. Maybe they're black and their father bragged about the shootings of black folks, they're latin and he chortled over the deportation rhetoric, or they're Muslim and he rubbed the travel bans in their face. Maybe they have/had long COVID and their father gave it to them because "it's a hoax." There are so many reasons for cutting MAGA idiots out of your life and Trump's political policy is the least of them

If you've ever played around with an old-style lighter (think classic Zippo) you'd get it! They're fairly expensive, and aren't airtight so they need to be refilled every few days/weeks. If you fill them too much they need to be kept upright or they'll spill lighter fluid on you. Super cool and can hold flames for a while but not nearly as conventient as a matchbook for quick fire lighting

At least Sarah Palin came with the illusion of bringing a demographic McCain didn't already have in the bag, Vance is just doubling down on the MAGA crowd while alienating a portion of them. It's fantastic

Not that I ascribe this to strategy, but I wonder if this will work in their favor. The last minute change of jockey has been dominating the news since it happened, and pushing Trump's ridiculous things to the side. This ticket will have huge and new name recognition in voters' minds, and a lot less time to get mud to stick

A lot of advanced analytical tools in biotech at least are developed to be compute cluster compatible, and thus work best on unix-like CLI, e.g. Linux (or Mac with a bit of tinkering)

One could make the case that it is a patriotic duty to divert money from fascists that would otherwise go to fascist causes

This premise gets thrown around a lot but I actually disagree. "Every time people turn out" is always also thrown in there like some arbitrary thing--when I think the past several election cycles have shown that when there are younger, more progress candidates who make it past the primaries turnout shoots up. Courting the 3% uninformed flip-floppers by moving right is a losing strategy when you could be motivating your own party to turn out by moving left and driving turnout up. There's no money in that though, so dumb centrists get wooed

Oh ho ho, where have you been that you think they'll hold their own side to this standard?

https://freesewing.org/ has somewhat limited patterns but they're flexible and a really cool project!

Keep in mind NH is only vaguely a battleground at the federal level, Biden won it by 7+ points in 2020 and they haven't voted for a Republican president since 2000 and even then Bush barely eked out a win. Push against the fascists still!

Funny thing is they aren't even GMOs, they're hybrids between tetraploid and diploid watermelon cultivars. You could do it yourself in your backyard if you can find tetraploid seed for sale, or make it yourself with colchicine

Mirror every object. You don't realize how many things are designed with a right-handed assumption unless you aren't right handed. Also, most people can't read well anymore because it's all backwards

US funding for basic research--the type that will lead to the truly paradigm-shifting breakthroughs--has also been in decline for 50+ years as a proportion of GDP. While bureacracy could be an obstacle, the much larger one is insufficient resources to fund a lot of moonshots that may fizzle or may result in 'zero to one's innovation, as the author states

I've been on the pixel A train the past few years, and wait until they offer me >$300 for a trade in. I got a 3A for I think ~$300 or so in 2020, and a 6A for $150 in 2022. Almost jumped to an 8a which would have been like $200 I think but there's no reason to really besides shiny new toy so I'm holding out for another year or two in hopes a 4a-style size reduction comes again

A pride flag pin is not political swag but also correlates very strongly to voting blue, and far-right nutjobs could run with that

As long as it can't be mistaken for the actual person it moves the stigma from them doing weird things to the artist doing weird things

Additionally, the raised and blunt hood height makes a full-body impact with no force dissipation much more likely, particularly for shorter people, where a more traditional hood shape allows a struck pedestrian to roll over the top and avert some of the force of the strike

I think it applies equally, the fallen victims will be held up and honored no matter what they had done, the shooter will be an evil antifa devil no matter who he was, and Trump will be the barely escaped Messiah no matter if this was a lone wolf attempt or a conspiracy

It's more like the 30% who always vote R will vote for whoever, the 30% who always vote D will vote for whoever. Kamala's task is to get the 1-2% independents who always vote, yes, but also convince as many of the 40% who never bother showing up as possible to actually show up like some have started to in the last elections where reproductive healthcare/etc have been on the line. If she can motivate people for herself and simultaneously underscore that trump is an octogenarian with dreams of fascism and Project 2025 is what he would do, I think we'll have a landslide. That's a big if though.

The people viewing it as a weakness were going to attack her no matter what, whether she was just black, just Indian, or just a woman. Adding the extra labels doesn't really amplify their thinly veiled bigotry, she's going to lose negligible support for being biracial than if she was one or the other, and will possibly appeal to a broader cross section of apathetic voters.

We can trust him to look out for himself as he sees it, not necessarily rationally. And also not to plan long-term if he needs a cash infusion now. Will be interesting (I guess) to see which pressure wins out

For many of those years it was the only electric pickup truck being advertised. And also, yes people do like the Tesla name. Musk and growing competition has done a ton to tank the reputation lately, but until just a couple years ago Tesla was far and away the best and most advanced electric car, and depending on your criteria the most advanced/best car period. Perception shifts slowly outside of well-informed groups, and the Musk hate is really only affecting well-informed left wing groups right now, so a lot of libertarian Musk fanboys are still fully on the Tesla train

They don't make it obvious at all, in fact they do their best to seem like you can't

It sounds like British Irish

In addition to what Blisterex said, the open-source hardware ethos is very similar to the Linux open-source software ethos, so it attracts a similar crowd

I don't know a single person IRL who likes Harris more than Biden, during the 2020 primaries Biden was the milquetoast, too old candidate and Harris was actively hated for her history as a prosecutor. My grandfather is the only person I know who thought Harris was a smart VP choice. Biden at least gets some of the centrists and disaffected Republicans while losing the progressives, as a black woman Harris loses most of those, the progressives don't like her, my black friends don't like her because of the aforementioned prosecutor role, I just don't know who her support base is except for you. Her campaign didn't even do well enough to make it to the primaries, let alone compete. Bernie or Harris? I can see. Kamala I can't

I have an aeropress and have only ever used a metal filter with it! I've had normal paper filtered aeropress coffee and I can't taste the difference

You should be able to, but US non-car infrastructure is so abysmal that there's a strong chance you can't safely unfortunately

Sure, but so do a lot of other things that aren't as costly. If NFTs were the first secure way to authenticate things online we wouldn't have had online banking until very recently

It works great for notes, it's not great for recording data because if it mishears me/I mumble once an entire set of 500+ observations can be frame shifted away from their identifiers and I have to redo it

If the Dems no longer have to compete with Republicans during generals, the focus needs to be on primarying bad candidates with better Dems too, we shouldn't just be pushing generals every four years. We need to be getting out the vote for primaries and midterms as well

No, the Republicans also don't have the power to fix the system. That's not their goal. Both parties have the power to completely gum up the works of the government, which is antithetical to fixing the system, but is perfectly acceptable if your goal is to weaken protections to allow a privileged few to gain more power through extragovernmental levers. If we entered a mirror world where the Democratic party were gunning to be a fascist dictatorship and the Republicans were gunning to stop them, but all voters retained their current alliances, not much would change long-term because there are enough people in both parties to obstruct and roadblock, unless the now-pro-civil-rights supreme court kept being radical but in a positive direction

Gesture typing is definitely faster, but I find it much less accurate and requires vision. My old sliding phone I could write whole essays in my hoodie pocket while walking home with few to no typos, which was a niche use-case for sure but an existing one. I work outside a fair amount and would love having that back for notetaking in the field

I used reddit on a mobile browser. At some point they completely blocked that and made it app-only on mobile, and I started looking for an exit. When the API bullshit happened shortly after I found one and took it

Does it really? I've seen one single poll, conducted by CNN just after the debate, with 1045 people reached by telephone that showed Harris doing 4% better with a 3.5% margin of error. The more recent polls I've seen that lead has disappeared again. If there are other polls, especially polls with better power, that prove your point I'd love to see them. I'm by no means a Biden fan, but I also don't think Harris has a dependable edge.

What's your alternative? Unless there's a successful January 6th equivalent the options are humoring the system and making progress as best you can or reject the system and maybe engage in resultless protests while letting fascists take over the system. At that point your options become be a fascist or die.

Not a lot but every wedge is probably worth it

Unfortunately Alberta started out with the very large advantage of not actually having them, they haven't eradicated them they've just kept them out of the province. Still an impressive and challenging feat but easier than eliminating an established population

I thought they were all side-lit? Which is functionally the same imo but technically different

When I'm stuck at a charger for an extra hour with a small child and some cats then yeah it's a pretty big deal. I'd much rather have a car with 2.5 hours of driving range that charges in 10-15 minutes and make several shorter jaunts than a 4 hour battery that adds 25% more time to every long trip
