The fact that people who have paid get to have their replies appear first means that you see the people with the worst opinions (people who are fine with giving Musk money) most of the time, just makes it a very un-fun experience.

I wasn't aware of this, thank you for posting

If I needed a laptop I'd get a framework, sure it's a bit more expensive at the beginning but you'll probably save in the long run. It's also good to show there's a market for user serviceable tech, hopefully forces big tech's hand a bit.

Sold my car, eat a plant based diet, talk to people about climate change and what they can do, change pensions, investments etc. to greener banks. I imagine the majority of my carbon footprint is probably from electricity now. I'd like to get involved with local green politics at some point but it's something I haven't really done yet.

In Nottingham, UK they made it so companies have to pay for every parking space per year over a certain amount, and that money gets invested in public transport. Over time congestion has grown much slower in Nottingham than similar cities, I'm amazed that more cities don't do the same.

Too complicated and poor beginner documentation

No, I've done it before. It's awful being dependent on a car to go anywhere, there's less to do.

20mph is significantly safer than 30mph, that's all there is to it

Silence transphobe

Great news, people don't realise how much safer 20mph is than 30mph.

Yes for Lemmy and Mastodon. YouTube has too much good content to skip, I feel like sites that can only rely on advertising to be profitable such as video hosting and search are going to be the hardest things to make fair.

Yes, the fediverse makes sense. Centralisation is a cancer

Magic earth is the best, not open source though

If you want the fediverse to work, you have to accept that large companies will want to be part of it.

Who is upvoting this. Gangstalking isn't real, and people that believe they are being gangstalked need professional medical help.

Cars would still be needed in some situations though, in which case it would be better if they were small

I do it when I have to drive. If people get angry that's their problem.

I love helix, I just wish the development was a bit faster. The main developers are all quite busy and I would love nothing more for them to be able to use some of the open collective money to pay themselves to work on it full time for a bit. I think in a year or two it will be amazing.

I had a look into this recently and the verdict was there's nothing really that good out there sadly.

Funny how the cars in the UK are geared differently than the ones in the rest of Europe, who seem to have no problem driving at ~20mph

Ok then drive slower it's a speed limit not a speed target

Lots of pro-rapists in this thread. Fuck Russel Brand and fuck Google (obviously)

But other things are controlled with dotfiles

I wish this was everywhere in the UK, you can't go anywhere without seeing cars littered everywhere

I do a lot, we also use the OpenStreetMap data for my work. I enjoy it but it's definitely lacking in some areas, and there's no app that really comes close to being a Google Maps replacement sadly.

This game is so good, needs a little polish here and there, but one of the most fun games I've played

Definitely inadequate. Most of the go green stuff has been carefully manufactured by the worst polluters pass the buck. However, in order to actually make a real difference, people's lives will have to change. We will have to drive less, eat less beef, and reduce our consumption in general.

Disco Elysium was just mind-blowing good

I really like Helix! When the plugin system comes it will be great, because it's definitely missing some key features

A fjord?? Or a ford?

Go ahead and drive a Tesla through a fjord and tell me how that goes buddy

I agree, it's a trade off. That's why reducing car usage is the most important thing. Making it less convenient to use a car, and more pleasant to walk and cycle are some of the ways you can do that.

Hyprland has a way to write custom shaders which would do what you want https://github.com/hyprwm/Hyprland/issues/1140#issuecomment-1546245134

They do exist but they are very expensive

You can get it free if you use F-droid!

Useful for long-running processes

Wtf are you talking about?

Windows on PC for gaming, Linux on work laptop for development

If you want to build robust applications, don't use eloquent
