I ended up drinking down by the river spot with some friends one sunny summer afternoon. Completely randomly, I remembered I had the number of a boy. He had long blonde hair, was skinny as a rail, and was very into heavy metal, I wasn't as much. He was also adorable, but I wasn't even thinking about that. What's extra crazy is he was sort of floating between living at a few places and was currently crashing at a mansion of all places, but it was like 20 miles north of the city and he didn't have a car. He just happened to be in town on that one day, at the right time, that when I texted him, he was able to walk over.

That was 10 years ago. We're planning on getting married after I finish some home renovations in the next year or so on our beautiful 1890s home (which coincidentally is by that same river).

Learned a trade that I love as a career (industrial electrician), fell in love with my boyfriend, bought and renovated a home from 1890 together, plan to get married eventually!

Dog if you're thinking about moving, come to the best small-town vines rust belt city that has the lowest cost of living in the US, where I was born and raised, Pittsburgh. I love this city to death and it has deep working class roots. I bought an 1800 sq ft, 4 bedroom home that was built in 1890 for $160k in 2020. I've been renovating it for the past few years and still got a ways to go but it's coming together beautifully.

For what it's worth, our rent is still well below the national average, and I love this city to death. It's small, but not too small, but not too large, everybody seems to know everybody, and there's always always something to do. The geography and nature and rivers really forced this city's hand a few hundred years ago where now everything is just built around and into mountainsides and deep woods, highways and roads and everything is a snarling maze of studio Ghibli elden ring on ketamine and I wouldn't want it any other way

FWIW, I have an old steam link. I can't remember what video settings I was getting. But I know they weren't 4K/60hz. I ran one additional cat 6A Ethernet wire to a dedicated KVM from my desktop to my living room OLED TV. I've been very impressed by the result. I've mostly played a lot of my old favorites on various emulators. It's been very nice playing through the metal gear solid series in upscaled 4K and avoiding that crap collection that was just released by Konami.

The steam link is cool and I'm glad to see Valve still supporting it all these years later. But the flexibility of a KVM is really nice. I watched a Steelers stream today just using my TV as another monitor basically. And KDE big screen is very nice for navigating things with a controller and not trying to read tiny text in 4K resolution lol

Adding onto this, city driving is just... different, in a way that I think a human element is always going to be needed. Sometimes you need to take a risky left, or cut across the double yellow lines into the other lane past someone, or run a yellow. Are these things unsafe? Of course. But when it's rush hour you have to be a dick just to get through it sometimes. In 2016, Uber built and tested their self-driving cars in my city of Pittsburgh, because we notoriously have some of the worst and most confusing spaghetti messes of roads in the country. They stopped whenever a car struck and killed someone. I rode in one one time because I was just tryin to call an Uber for a concert, and since it couldn't go on the highway it took the worst way through downtown, and got stuck at a red light for over 5 minutes because the car was waiting to take a left, and everyone was going around us and not giving us a break.

Also, all these new cars with their auto-correcting features scare the shit out of me. What happens when you go across the double yellow to go around someone riding a bicycle and it swerves you back into their lane?

You could call these bugs to be worked out but I feel infinitely safer when I'm the one doing the driving. In a perfect world maybe our infrastructure and transport would've been planned differently but I swear half the roads around here are based on deer trails or something, winding through crazy hills in the woods. I've heard self-driving cars do best on roads specially designed for them. We can't even get the city to fix our thousands of potholes, or crumbling infrastructure. We had a major bridge collapse a couple years ago, and the way it was rated during inspections was pretty close to the other ones around here. So how on earth are self-driving car roads going to be put in?

I actually just answered this question on another post in this forum. I've been using a KVM to use my living room TV as another screen that I can play games / stream video / generally use my PC which is in my bedroom.

It works great in a max resolution of 4K/60hz and zero latency as far as I can tell on the USB ports for gaming controllers and mouse & keyboard. I use KDE big screen to easily navigate & open programs, emulators, steam, whatever with a controller so I don't have to try to read tiny 4K text from the couch. I generally find disabling my monitors and enabling my TV works best.

Basically how it works is:

PC (HDMI & USB) -> transmitter -> Ethernet (CAT 6 or better) -> receiver -> TV (HDMI & USB)

The Ethernet wire only connects from the transmitter to the receiver. It does not connect to your network at all.

I worked for 7 years at a Swedish company who built granulators, Rapid Granulator AB. I worked stateside though as the only electrical technician.

From what I could glean about the machinery we built and sold, they would say that the only viable way to recycle plastic is as it was being manufactured. So say you're a facotry making hundreds of garbage cans a day. All the rejects (wrong chemical makeup, big bulge from the molding process, etc) would go into a granulator for "recycling". The granulator grinds it down into small pellets which are then used at the beginning of the line.

From what I remember, customers were very very picky about what could be used after granulation. A little bit of the wrong color of dye would ruin a whole batch for instance. I'm curious to see exactly how this site zero plans to recycle waste products coming from the general population, on an engineering / technical level..

This, of course, is also dancing around the fact that it's a bit of an open secret that most places in America do not recycle. And I'm talking systemically, not on an individual level. In my county I know that all recycling goes to the exact same landfill as all the trash. It's a bit hard to feel hopeful when the USA sends 242 million pounds of plastic straight to the ocean every year. I felt a little better about it when China would sort through and recycle our plastics.

In the summer? I have no AC at my house but it doesn't usually go above 77 - 80 on it's own. It's in a unique part of the city where we're surrounded by the woods and trees which provide a lot of shade and cool the air. Also the house is built into the side of a mountain and surrounded by massive retaining walls, so the first floor is basically a story underground. Our bedroom is also on the first floor, so I don't really go upstairs except to do laundry.

In the winter, usually about 64 - 67. It goes down to 60 during the day on a schedule or whatever.
