An older name for 'the fediverse' is 'the world wide web', and an older name for that is 'arpanet.' It's a pretty recent development that a few large companies control access to information.

Drag queens have the best names. My favorite from this season of RuPaul's Drag Race is Amanda Tori Meating.

I think what you're looking for is Standard of Living. The economy may be doing well but the standard of living is stagnant or going down for many.

Maybe they're just shy.

Honestly I think this is an interesting real-world experiment in the entire federation paradigm. It's going to happen again and again, there's no escaping it. How does the ecosystem work when two large instances can't communicate directly? We're going to find out.

One option is to play the stream on your PC, and hook up the TV as another monitor using a HDMI or other video cable.

I've been using Kubuntu on my main laptop for a few years now, and I really enjoy having an environment that just works, doesn't get in my way, and I don't have to think about. That's just the way it should be.

Well, you posted this in the lemmy.world community, and since lemmy.world runs lemmy and not kbin, you might get better responses if you ask somewhere else. But the lemmy folks are awesome so hopefully someone can help you out.

I can't wait to see all the fixes in 0.18 implemented, it's going to be huge. 1.0, here we come!

This article is amazing. Factually correct, and entertaining to read. And who says traditional media is dead?

I thought US Gov had their own email systems. When did they start moving officials' mailboxes to Microsoft?

“If you can't love yourself, how in the hell are you gonna love somebody else?” -RuPaul

Yeah but that would require actually downloading it, so nah.

Well I'm not so sure about that. Just give it time, someone will find a way to monetize it. People are creative.

No, I'm pretty sure they were around. They just didn't have the platform they do today.

I got an XPS 15 last year, running Kubuntu and I love it except for one design flaw. The wifi card will randomly disappear from the hardware inventory and the only thing that fixes it is a reboot. It's a $20 replacement part that should be user-replaceable... except for the fact that they soldered it to the motherboard for some inexplicable reason. So I'm stuck using a USB dongle wifi chip. But otherwise it's great (even plays Baldurs Gate 3 pretty well since the latest hotfixes).

web3 was within us the whole time

Have they fixed the kbin/cloudflare federation issue?

see I'm not sure I see that as a problem. There are lots of reasons to spawn a new but similar community (bad community mods, bad server admins). There are lots of subreddits I avoided because they were just too big to get into any real info or discussion, just the same beginner questions asked over and over again.

Kubuntu

KDE on my laptop, XFCE on my media server

Nope. Which is good because I hate snaps. A media player that can't play nfs-mounted media or a browser that can't read my remote KeePass file are just useless to me.

Gone but not forgotten 😇
