A lot of Europe did so and for this exact purpose. Immigrants are net contributors of tax money and help a lot with demographics. Now however European countries have a sizable portion of their countries as immigrants and it turns out a lot of people feel like their culture is getting lost.

Add that up with corruption is more out in the open, austerity after the 2008 financial crisis generally failed as a policy and people are very prone to believe "Immigrants are to blame" and vote for right wing parties since they run on an anti-establishment platform.

The left generally believes that we need more immigrants and more social programs and so on but there has been a massive crusade on tax rates which hinders the governments ability to pay for them.

This is all coming together now and the far right narrative is being given a chance in Europe with their anti-immigration stance.

In my opinion this is basically the centre-right trying to get votes by cutting taxes, end up taking on massive debt or gutting quality of life social programs so the only way forward is to fuck over minorities and making the most vulnerable people suffer for the greater good. But tax the well-off, rich, wealth, land, capital gains, profits? Nooooo, can't do that because they fund the political parties. 🙃

Yeah, exactly. If a person asks for a recommendation they don't trust their own skills enough to make their own decision or distrohop.

I feel like a website is needed to recommend a distro to people based on a very varied set of criteria that doesn't just ask "Do you like stability over all? Debian"

Love that game

Firewatch for $4, Dave the diver for $13 and Total War Atilla for $11.

Anybody that already has had a computer for 2 years and is coming from Windows will have almost no problems with Mint. Stability is top priority for first time Linux users and you need some visual guide with screenshots. Mint also has a great default look and setup for people coming from Windows. Mint is probably the best distro to put on your mom's old laptop that is "getting slow" because of viruses.

I'd recommend KDE Neon or Ubuntu also depending on the situation but if I don't know anything about the person and computer I'd say Mint.

Having a good relationship with coworkers is in general great in my opinion and talking about personal life, politics and religion can be avoided with for example:

  • "I'm not that into politics"
  • "sorry, I don't like talking about religion"
  • "Sorry, that's a part I like to keep private" Also always steer conversations towards work topics and problems.

Then there are ways to differently stop conversations like

  • "Sorry, I'm feeling tired today" < all nurses should relate
  • "Sorry, I'm not in the mood for talking right now"

Then there's the general fact that often you don't really don't have to say anything as long as you listen and ask exploratory questions. I'm autistic and can barely keep a conversation going but this goes pretty well for me without a lot of effort. Just say stuff like:

  • "So you're saying that [literally rephrasing their point]"
  • "So does that mean that..."
  • "That must have been tricky"
  • "That sounds hard/tricky/difficult"
  • "Did you manage?"
  • "So what did you do/end up doing?"
  • "That sucks"

And if they somehow end up being sad and almost crying which happens more often than I'd like to admit you can just say "That sucks" put a hand on their shoulder and wait.

Another option would be to invite them to silence like:

  • "I'm spent, do you want to sit over there, relax and eat in silence?"

People are sometimes uncomfortable with silence but not as much when it's on purpose.

It's just conversation lubricant. If you feel like the conversation is interesting then "Have you thought about doing X?".

I can't stress enough how much people will like you by just actively listening.

But always, be like the British monarchy, never take sides. Instead propose neutral hypotheticals like "Maybe they were having a bad day". I've been in my fair share of gossip but acting as Switzerland manages to just avoid most of it. When people say "Why are you hanging out with X" then responding with "They never did anything to me". If really pressed for opinion then say "I don't know all the details so I can't really give an honest opinion". If they still press you after that you have my condolences since that's toxic.

I got an HP printer and it's prints reliably when connected via USB but that's about it.

They have massive amount of soldiers and are good and making artillery and missiles. It is a big black box however since they haven't been engaged in a conflict recently so all their troops lack experience.

Their economy is practically built for conflict so it shouldn't be taken lightly.

There's a method to put headphones into your pocket without them tangling. Fold them in half always instead of coiling them up.

Yeah, I have a feeling that they will have very low morale because of lack of motivating factors. Desertion might also become a massive problem since this is one of the few ways to get out of the DPRK.

Kim Jong Un has a pretty cool train also to use the rail

Because most self hosted things are free already. It doesn't apply to FOSS.

I use steam and I can't tell which is which usually.

To absolutely minimise the water usage you could do a more old school "shower" by just putting some water in a bucket with a sponge.

  1. Put some water on your body with a quick sponge rinse.
  2. Apply soap.
  3. Use sponge to rinse off soap.

Then later use the bucket as toilet refill.

Sorry, meant to reply to a Zionist comment justifying the Genocide. My sincere apologies.

To actually answer the question:

The war with Hezbollah is in my opinion likely. It has popular support among the Israelis and Netenyahu has been doing whatever to stave off an election. It'll still be an enormously costly war which will fill people with regret a couple of months after starting it.

There's another angle where he'll say "If you vote for me I'll get rid of Hezbollah once and for all like I did with Hamas" and then delay until he can say "Circumstances have changed" which I think is a better move.

PLEASE ASSUME EVERYTHING BELOW THIS LINE IS OUT OF CONTEXT AND MEANT AS A RESPONSE TO A GENOCIDAL ZIONIST BECAUSE I'M AN IDIOT

What kind of bubble do you live in? If you take 2 million people, close their airspace, ports and land borders they're not going to be happy.

On top of that Israel does the following:

  • imprison kids for throwing rocks at soldiers wearing armor
  • take people's houses, most recently in Sheikh Jarrah
  • Ban farmers from using water, promise water from other sources and don't deliver.
  • Close West Bank Airport
  • Settle lands in he West Bank.
  • Make Palestinians go to Military court with 99% conviction rate instead of a civil court.
  • Administrative detetention without giving any reason. (Because classified)
  • Withold evidence from courts that's used to convict them. (Because classified)
  • Settlements are both within the 1948 borders and even within the Olso accord Green line.
  • Beat people up and throw tear gas that go play at Al-Aqsa mosque.
  • Don't convict any settlers of violence.
  • Fondle women at check points when they open the trunk of their cars.
  • Limit imports to single item per pallet.
  • Limit work visas.
  • Limit family reunification as a way to immigrate across the border.
  • Random checkpoints that destroy tourism such as in Jericho.
  • Open policy of disproportial response to every reaction the Palestinians have.
  • Raid refugee camps and destroy their roads like in Jenin.
  • Kill journalists that cover the story such as Shireen Abu Akleh
  • Don't even convict the murdered because he was a soldier.
  • Oh and kill/wound 5% of Gaza, half of which are children, for good measure.

When people are suffocating because someone has their foot on their throat they react. Nobody should be surprised that Oct 7 happened. Especially after Israel was warned many times that they would do something if they continue raiding one of the holiest sites in Islam.

I remember getting a bit lost there too. If I'm not sure where I'm going after 15 minutes of wandering I just look up a guide. I did that 3 times I think which for sá open world without quest markers is an incredible feat.

Obra Dinn in amazing and doesn't need any power.

I prefer everything to be how you would read it as text. So create_file_dialog it is. Honorable mention is to have it namespaced in a class or something which I think is best. file_dialog.create or dialog.create_file or even dialog.file.create

I'm sorry but your wife won't be impressed by basic vim motions. You need to learn some more advanced motions to get her wet.

Did you know that MS now charges for you to play some codecs with windows media player?

These numbers are not descriptive. Check out the daily stats.

  • Active users per day has already stabilised.
  • Active users half year is still climbing so we have people coming in.
  • Shitposts per day are growing exponentially.
  • People are still leaving from the Reddit influx. Lemmy just wasn't for them.

On the upside, doing the same essay again is so much easier and usually comes out way better.

You can use all the classes, patterns, functions, methods you want but if it's not readable it's garbage.

It's related to the bonus system. Execs are rewarded for share price increases instead of making good games. They'll alienate the whole playerbase and ruin 30% of future sales for 5% increase in revenue for current sales. The 5% is enough to increase the share price so that CEO's are entitled to compensation. So to min-max as a CEO it's best to alienate the playerbase.

Also spending more money on marketing than on the game will result in more games sold at the cost of next games sales in the same franchise.

The games industry is well overdue for a more product focused approach for brand building. Diablo 5 will probably never be made since polling will suggest no interest. It was a major cash cow and Diablo 3 sold like crazy because Diablo 2 was great. It's the enshittification of video games in full swing.

The entrenched Blizzard Activision is getting out competed by Paradox but Paradox is starting to screw up in the same ways by releasing Cities Skylines 2 without mod support. Cities Skylines 1 was good because of mods and Cities Skylines 2 is good, but not as good as 1 with mods.

Big companies should take a lesson from the indie book and do more closed betas, more early access and more mod support. Sell DLCs that improve a complete game instead of it being the last 10% of the unfinished game. Adding a map section like in Horizon Zero Dawn is great.

Installing Linux will save them. 240M computers.

Increasing the price and giving people energy rebates would have worked, miners only run the machines because the BTC is worth more than the electricity + maintenance + equipment

Next step is drivers that allow switching on/off components of the phone through systemd to save battery. Proper drivers are the only major missing piece for Linux phone OS right now.

When Linux phone comes with lasting battery and fast waydroid I'll switch.
