Butt Truckers

[S]ince ill-conceived right-wing boycotts rarely tend to hurt the businesses they target in the long term, it’s entirely plausible that the true outcome of this backlash is fewer passengers spewing toxic politics to their seatmates. Friendly skies, indeed.

Well played, Rolling Stone.

TL;DR They won't delete an account that contains purchased games.

I was going to answer this but I can't remember.

I'm not an Amazon fan either. But you may want to know that Newegg is owned by a Chinese company these days.

There's also the European Commission (as in the EU), and the Fedora Project (as in Fedora Linux).

More like pay-to-play!

As an American myself, I encourage you to keep your natural accent. We're a nation of immigrants built from people who originated all over the world. So there's not just one recognizable accent here. Nobody's accent is superior to others. I've known people from other countries who are self conscious about their accents. In response, I tell them honestly that I appreciate the way they sound. Variety is the spice of life, as the saying goes.

Tildes fits that description. The posts are text-only or links to websites. No memes.

I use that site in addition to Lemmy, not as a replacement but a supplement. It's just a different flavor of discussion.

It's invite-only but I can give you an invitation code if you're interested. Take a look, see if you like it, and send me a private message if you want an invitation.

The title sounds a bit misleading. So here's what the article is really about:

"The latest effort, to be detailed at the massive annual Def Con hacking conference in Las Vegas next week, seeks to provide a foundation for messaging, file sharing and even social networking apps without harvesting any data, all secured by the kind of end-to-end encryption that makes interception hard even for governments."

I think you mean "scare you into not actually using it"

The middle ground is to put a defined limit on news consumption, like 5 minutes per day. That's enough to stay aware of major events but not so much that you'd necessarily get wrapped up in excessive worrying about irrelevant items. NPR, the BBC, and probably others, offer 5-minute audio news briefs updated hourly. These are available to stream on demand like a podcast. I wouldn't recommend listening hourly but the point is they're up to date at any single time in the day, which you might choose as your daily news blast. Then just tune out, literally and figuratively.

Consider Chess. LiChess, the site I linked, is free with no ads. You can play on the website or in their mobile app. They will match you against players of comparable skill, so you shouldn't get annihilated too often. Or you can play against the computer to practice.

Same in Jerboa for Android.

Yes, I'm aware this may differ depending on your specific brand of Android phone. 🤷

In which country is your company based?

What's a 20:80 rule in this context?

This appears to be an advertisement. Why post it here?

Thank you. I've been missing an IndyCar community. I joined.

Is it common practice in your workplace to keep emergency pants on hand?

You may want to put an exclamation point (!) in front of that community name, to make it clickable. Thanks for pointing it out.

Cloudflare's 1.1.1.2 blocks known malware domains, so that's better than 1.1.1.1 unless you want nothing blocked.

If you want to block ads and trackers in addition to malware, try ControlD's 76.76.2.2 .

Better still is to use encrypted DNS if your device supports it. I like NextDNS or ControlD for that, as DNS-Over-TLS or -HTTPS.

Just curious: Had you purchased those games, or had you claimed them for free as giveaways? If you purchased them, it appears to contradict Ubisoft's statement in the article, so that would be meaningful to know.

Yes. Even the police chief has a boss. Typically that's the mayor, county executive, or even governor.
