In real general terms, communism is about people/state’s ownership of the means of production. Under this system, most private property is nationalized.

Socialism allows for private property and sees the role of the state to redistribute power and wealth among its citizens through some sort of state program.

I’m not an expert in middle eastern politics.

My uninformed take is that if the Gaza Strip was to self organize as a state, they will implicitly recognize Israel as a state as they will have to decide on borders.

Being unrecognized allows the Palestinian authority to claim all the former Palestinian land as their own.

ml was managed by freenom for a long time. They made it available alongside tk domains.

Freenom stopped operations for sometime and both Mali and Tokelau are in the process of taking over their registrars from freenom.

It’s more of an example of a coincidence than a conspiracy.

One or two bitcoin miners never hurt no GPU.

This sounds like the textbook definition of a collider. Meaning that being toxic is the likely “root cause” and that toxic people are more likely to engage in political discourse (because it’s likely going to be toxic anyways? Idk) and they are more likely to comment toxic stuff in general.

Spez taking notes for Reddit 3.0

Here is the salient point on the Wikipedia page that explains why horses don’t produce 1 HP:

Watt judged that the horse could pull with a force of 180 pounds-force (800 N)

Basically, Watts made up HP to sell his steam engine to mines and likely made up a number to make the new technology seem better.

Some things never change.

Step 2: We are Extending the fediverse with our open source contributions. We are such great citizens of the fediverse and we like to contribute . Step 3: We have decided to exit the fediverse because of reasons. But don’t worry! All the people you like to talk to are on Threads already. Come on over!

The 2020s are shaping up like the 90s again. All we need is Steve Ballmer as Meta ceo and the circle will close.

I just hope it’s not just a way to get users then close back up the platforms once they have enough users.

This is going to be like the self checkout lanes at the store but for creative jobs.

At the end of the day, a company will be able to produce the same output with fewer people. Some stuff will be of lower quality, just like sometimes people spend time on Lemmy and then phone in some crappy work.

I use porkbun.

The prices are similar to google domains and the dns management interface is ok.

Do we really need more people here? There are no investors to appease or advertisers to swindle.

Unlimited growth should be a metric we should chase over other stuff like engagement on posts, quality of submissions, etc.

I'm originally from a small town outside of Naples, Italy and I had just arrived in New York City last year. I was hoping to find work as a cook or chef since I had trained in some of the best kitchens back home. The day after I arrived, I received a mysterious letter stamped with a seal that looked like a cross on my apartment door. It summoned me to appear at a restaurant downtown called "Tony's" at 7pm sharp.

That evening, I put on my best suit and headed to the address. The restaurant was in a dingy part of the city I didn't recognize. I walked inside the dark interior and was greeted by a hostess who led me silently to a back room. There I found two men dressed in fine Italian suits sitting at a table covered in plates of pasta, pizza, antipasto, and glasses of wine. However, they didn't offer me anything to eat or drink.

The men began to ask me strange questions in Italian. First, the older one in the pinstriped suit asked if I had any boating experience and could operate a motorboat at night. When I said no, the younger one in the track suit asked my views on wearing "concrete galoshes" and whether I knew how to swim in them. They also asked when my favorite holiday was and seemed very interested when I answered Valentine's Day.

I was utterly confused by their line of questioning and asked them to explain what this meeting was about. The older man slammed his fist on the table and told me I clearly was not a good fit for the "Columbus Club." Before I could respond, they ushered me out of the restaurant. I still have no idea what they wanted from me or what that mysterious club was. But I decided it was best not to pursue it any further.

Is the chess buttblug on the next page?

If you are a history buff, read up on the aventine secession on Wikipedia.

The TL;DR is that in 1924 Giacomo Matteotti, a member of the house of representative who was outspoken against Mussolini, was killed and no charges were brought forward. That even is what transition Italy from a semi-working democracy to a one-party dictatorship.

I would switch to grex when that happens

How much money would they want to skim to distribute the music? 33-66 split doesn’t sound so bad considered that they don’t produce the music, sign artist, promote them, etc

They can always start their own label if they believe that vertical integration will be more profitable for them.

They tried that with podcasts and it didn’t go as planned

Copper piping costs about double the cost of cove piping.

If you want to repair copper, you need to use a torc and solder. That’s not usually possible if the repairs are in difficult to reach places.

Cpvc usually requires only a crimp coupling.

You can do all of the through GitHub and GitHub actions by picking a static website generator.

Wow! He really got one of the short usernames reserved for founders on that platform too.

This 🔝

Berlusconi had a similar political appeal. After he exited politics, his party went to the biggest in Italy to insignificant.

It will be really difficult for someone to pick up the Republican Party and run with the same platform as DJT. Many have tried it (e.g. de santis) but none is able to have the same success.

Maybe he is texting with a Nokia phone and the screen is still in 4:3.

Good try, L’Oréal. I’ll continue to wash my hair with my body soap bar. I don’t care about what conditioner you want me to buy.

I’m not sure about salt, but my mom puts red wine in it. 0/10 not recommended.

Because 1% of a few million people is still thousands of them.

Also, I’m not sure if the 1% figure is really that accurate, as it should become much higher when people are on them long term. The problem is that most opioids were prescribed to be safe for long-term use, which wasn’t true.

It will be fine. If two computers are on the same lan, they will connect directly using your local network. If they are on two different networks, they will reroute through their network.

Yes. It’s a default option for Tailscale. You just need to run the Tailscale client on the server with the exit node option, enable it in the web portal, and then tell your phone to use the exit node.

These models are mad libs machines. They just decide on the next word based on input and training. As such, there isn’t a solution to stopping hallucinations.

My biggest pet peeve is that they sell you a service, at a certain speed, that you can only use for like 50 hours a month…

I agree with you. That’s why I make an effort to at least leave a comment every time I use the app.

We’ll, strictly speaking you could have an AI that only knows about the world up to 1928 and talks like it’s 1928.

Why would they charge for it? If you build an app with it and want to charge for it, they will take 30% of whatever you make.
