Would be nice if we could start at not demonizing peaceful protests. Nowadays any protest is seen as a massive misguided problem of you so much as block a street.

Probably the biggest one would be needlessly hostile or mocking responses.

Sounds like you made a poor choice.

4chan was never based.

Don't act like YouTube won't crack down on those as well. YouTube getting more aggressive about ads is bad for everyone.

You're so insufferably cocksure in your positions everywhere else, but when someone honestly asks what a tankie is, you just get defensive and can't master up the courage to just say what it is that you stand for? I really get the impression that you're just here to stir up shit.

No, this needs to be on all. Lemmy needs these aggressively supportive posts on all. Let the transphobes see overwhelming support for trans people. If they try to butt in, ban them.

It's a chicken and egg problem, unfortunately. Cities won't improve conditions for cyclists if they only see car traffic and people will avoid cycling under bad conditions.

Shaun made an excellent video on the topic, although you're going to have to invest a lot of time into watching it. It's got a good selection of sources, too, for those of you who love to hold on to the common narrative that dropping the bomb was necessary.

Extra spicy take: The Luddites were right. They were really always about opposing unethical use of technology, people who use their name as an insult were always all about "progress over people", and you should never feel bad for being called a Luddite.

Looking at lemmy.world/instances, it explicitly federates with lemmygrad.ml

Kinda worrying to me that the two biggest instances link to the biggest tankie instances.

Disabling downvotes is a feature in the lemmy software afaik, but apparently it affects the users on that instance rather than its communities, which certainly seems like it should be the other way around.

That's not actual code though, it looks like some kind of trace. Notice the filenames at the end of each line.

The actual solution the issue opener there might be looking for is to disable C++ parsing, since it's not actually C++ code, it's just some text they pasted into VSCode and they're wondering why their editor can't handle it.

How do you cool a nuclear reactor on the moon?

As much as I've come to loathe Google, I think even that is a bit unfair to them. Search engine optimization is a result of the existence of search engines, because being at the top of the results is always worth good money.

Back before Google was the top dog, there were numerous search engines, and I'm pretty sure people shared tips on how to get further up on the results even then, they just didn't use the term SEO yet.

Google became the dominant search engine because it gave better results than anyone else, because it wasn't so easy to manipulate your ranking on the results. But there were always sites that wanted to be on top even when they shouldn't be. Google stayed ahead of their game for some decades, but now it looks like they can't or won't keep it up anymore.

I wouldn't be surprised if that whole block would end up being deleted by admins.

My 2DS is my retro handheld.

Everyone's comparing the placements of their favorite language and I'm just left wondering how GolfScript gets beaten by seven other languages. I take it out was created specifically to do well on code golf? Mission failed, I guess.

Apart from that, aren't Palestinians also semitic?

Can you even make a single move from that position? There's no empty spaces.

Edit: oh wait those are chess pieces. From the top down view, I thought this was just checkers.

Pac-man was made specifically to appeal to women, a demographic that was rarely targeted with video games at that time. Its core design came right out of the idea that "women like to eat".

Is this feminist-misogynist sandwich political enough for you?

This is a programming community. The joke is that you're asked to do something that isn't part of your job, to do someone else's job for them.

I honestly thought this was some kind of AI generated bike.

I don't know if it's actually related but I've definitely seen far fewer posts from 196 since then. It used to be all over all my feeds. Now I barely see it even on my subscribed view.

I honestly really like this idea. I would've been a fan of the model where copyright just outright can't be transferred from actual creators to a company, but that creates massive problems for collaborative works that don't have a single one creator. This model of giving individual creators lifelong copyright nicely addresses that problem.

It's gonna be a darn shame if users on the biggest lemmy instance won't be able to interact with beehaw or even see it. I understand your meaning, though, my most unpleasant interactions on lemmy have been with users from lemmy.world

I hope sometime in the near future, you'll be able to federate with them again.

I use voyager and it straight up doesn't display any avatars. Other apps might not either. But don't take this to mean that I'd like to switch, this is far from a deal breaker for me.

The old Reddit interface also didn't display avatars, either, even once Reddit introduced them.

But there's really no point in flooring a double outside of the range where integers can be represented accurately, is there.

Well, I did say needlessly hostile. I definitely didn't mean that you should treat actually vile people with velvet gloves.

I'm talking more about the overall culture on Reddit where you'd have someone making some innocuous mistake and getting torn into it for it.

Although, yeah, that does also extend to general disagreements that tend to take on raised hairs where it really isn't warranted. Like, just of the top of my head, what happens whenever someone discusses the viability of nuclear power.

Pizza Tower is genuinely amazing.

Cassette Beasts also surprised me in how good it was.

Ooo, old school AI 😍

In our current cultural consciousness, I'm not sure that even qualifies as AI anymore. It's all about neutral networks and machine learning nowadays.

I suppose you're right, though that's quite involved when all I want is to host an image.

Free games on Gog are hardly one click, since you have to go into the notification settings in your account to turn the marketing emails back off after they were turned on because you claimed a free game.

I feel the need to remind people that the concept of the ecological footprint was invented by BP to direct the focus of climate fears away from large corporations and onto individuals.

Being able to black list, downplay or uplift specific sources is awesome

I've never heard of Kagi, but yeah, those features sound like a godsend. I'd love it if you could have that on a search engine that isn't pay to use.

Oh, is that why lemmy.world has such a long list of federated instances? That would explain it. I'll fully admit, I just Ctrl-F'd for lemmygrad on the instance list after noticing that it's not on the blocklist when it's blocked on most other instances.

Hm yeah, competing with such loss leader printers would be difficult. But how come I've never heard of anyone making things such as bootleg printer ink? Or does the police barge into the doors of anyone who tries?

I've also got an account on kbin, it does show you what instance you're posting to, but it's not particularly noticable. I've had to look for it multiple times there.

Personally I tend to use my bike moreso to get from place to place than just for leasure. Although I've also been exploring various side-streets lately, mostly to figure out what the best routes are that minimize my risk of getting run over.

I think there should be some bicycle-specific communities somewhere on Lemmy as well, you might enjoy those. Although I only really know about the German one.

Lucky you. Half my wishlist is games that aren't even out yet.
