Is there a page where we can see which instances are ban-crazy and which ones actually federate and communicate?

Is there a page where we can see which instances are ban-crazy and which ones actually federate and communicate?
They will start setting standards that other instances will be pressured to follow. Those standards will be mechanisms to control the fediverse and make it a data-gathering ad & sales platform.
I agree.
BUT some degree of infighting means we're alive and engaged with the platform. I think it's healthy infighting.
I'm in Canada and we just drink the tap water. Some northern and remote native communities have to boil their water and it's considered an embarrassing failure of basic human rights.
I'm socially liberal and economically on the left (as in I like democracy, I accept capitalism, but I want a lot more socialist policies). Downtrodden people should be given assistance, but everyone else should be free to live out their power and ambition unless it gets in other people's way. I'm against most right wing political and social positions. But I'm even more against defederation and mass blocking. I don't want a safe space. There are too many things we need to process with conversation.
This us exactly the threat. They'll start setting standards that other instances will be pressured to follow. Those standards will be ways to control the fediverse and make it a propietary data-gathering and sales/advertising platform just like everything else.
That's a great price for a vps. What host do you use?
At this point I only pirate media that I can't find through legit means. I think it's honestly hilarious that they don't just make every movie or album available to purchase and download without DRM, since that would be the best way to combat piracy.
I pay for what I can, but I'm also a big Linux user who loves FOSS software. Adobe can get bent. I use Gimp, Krita, and Audacity/Tenacity.
Microsoft can also get bent.
I'm intrigued by the idea of nomadic communities jumping from platform to platform. Maybe that will become necessary. Each instance might be less stable than the mega-sites we're used to.
"Today's pirates are too mean!"
Yeah but half of that is a few nerds inflating the numbers with 10 thinkpads each running different linux distros
Nobody is suggesting that we destroy Threads. We just don't want to let it control the fediverse.
They'll start setting standards, other instances will comply, and meta will control (or destroy) the fediverse.
I don't believe in a soul that's separate from the body, or that lives on afterward. But the way that "inanimate" matter can spin up thoughts and feelings and a consistent personal experience that can last for decades... It's almost fair to call that thing a soul. It's fair to talk about nurturing your soul and growing a soul.
You think we can't get people to join lemmy unless our Genius Daddy Savior Zuck brings them in?
Yeah they want to make it too difficult to bother intentionally unsubscribing.
Hey that's my password too
Maybe I should figure out DO. I disregarded then because I didn't understand their droplets or whatever they're called.
I might have to go here. I'm already tired of defederation and its histrionic champions.
"The customer is always right" is a very popular saying, usually uses by managers to tell their front-facing employees that they must prostrate themselves before the customer on behalf of the corporation.
This is to create a false feeling of entitlement and service in the customer while the corporation seeks to squeeze all value from both employee and customer.
None of those relationships fit into the fediverse scheme.
I don't remember there being a similar CPU generation cutoff before. Your 7th gen intel laptop cannot install windows 11. So Linux is your only choice.
I like the idea, but it makes modding a lot more work. I don't think it's feasible for every community to host an instance.
Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Shudder.
I also pay content creators for a ton of podcasts and stuff like that.
What kind of FOSS software can you get for your android?
I expect there are very few people running 7, and waaaay less running xp. I think most people have upgraded to 10 or 11 by now.
Right, but social media (and any social movement) needs to have some degree of blood-pumping excitement. Constructive criticism is super important, but so is passionate people yelling at each other. The important thing is that we're emotionally mature enough to handle each other's passion. If infighting leads to people crying "defederate now!" then that's a problem. But "constructive" criticism can lead to the same fracturing.
Let's just ride the waves and steer this thing somewhere cool and strong! And it's fine if "infighting" is part of the engine that keeps the digital blood pumping.
I think your wife invented that
They seem more node.js-friendly than other hosts I've tried. I might have to take the plunge.
I forgot about them. I didn't know they were FOSS. Is F-Droid primarily for nerds and programmers? Or do normies also use it? I stopped working on Android apps because I don't want my hobby to be subjected to the whims of Google's acceptance criteria. But maybe I could publish to F-Droid instead.
This helps, thanks!
The universe growing souls like flowers, or something
We all mourn in different ways. Here at the CIA we mourn by doing terrorism.
Federation will become part of our cultural language and people will come over at that point.
They're so gross lol
Yeah the nub invalidates the n. It's the wrong shape.
I'm criticizing people criticizing people for criticizing people who criticize people who criticize....
You're just as tiring as the people you're criticizing.
I used to work at the CIA. We did 9/11
Good news! Fuck Zuck!
