It's probably not advertising that they are afraid that you will block but the trackers. They want to know what user is clicking where, how long you are on each page and what you ordered / not ordered.

I have this vpn because it comes for free with my Google Drive subscription. I have never used it because it does not do what I expect it to do

  • privacy, it's Google.
  • pretend to be in a different country is not available

Same with YouTube ads. Lots of scam's and reporting it always ends in my report getting denied..

I personally think that everything has always gone to shit. But in the downfall, new things will take over until that goes to shit. Or maybe because there are new things the old things will go down.

Take the example of video stores. They used the be the best thing ever. Rent all the movies you would like to see for a small fee per movie. Then downloading and streaming came along. Streaming was cheaper and more convenient. Result: video renting business went to shit.

Then the streaming services started to raise their prices. It started going to shit. Soon new ideas/companies/services will swoop in and the cycle will repeat again.

Must be one of those electric cats then.

True but it hosted in Germany. That country does not take it easy on piracy...

That is a long time ago that I have heard anyone say that. Wasn't there a client software called DC++ or something like that?

If I can stop whenever (without payment), sign me up. It will be boring tho.. Very boring. Probably will need to keep my mind occupied because that situation can make you go crazy.

So it finally happened. Was already wondering why it kept working for so long. Hopefully we see the new Boost app for Lemmy soon.

That is an awesome sentence. I will use that one some time.

Not my first memory.

When I was eight years old, I was wondering how long I could remember something. So I started an experiment. I decided to remember what I did that day for as long as possible. Every evening when I was in bed I would try to remember it. That was 30 years ago and I still remember that that day I went playing with a friend and we tried to make a swimming pool in his parents backyard and we played with some wild cats.

I hope I can keep the experiment going until I'm at least 90+

I think it is because a dog has been seen as an object or tool for a long time. We are the owner. We buy the one that we like the most.

With humans we don't have ownership over another human. The human is owned by itself. So we let everyone decide for themselves who the want to breed with. One person will select a partner that is nice, some like a "bad boy", some like dark hair, blond, tall short, etc.

Also, humans are really not that different from each other while dogs can look like a completely different species.

What if someone sets up an instance, make a post and manipulate the upvotes? Just give it a million upvotes. That would break the whole system..

Or a bit more subtle, every upvote is multiplied by 10.

Giant roll of wrapping paper. I'm using it for everything. My kid draws on the back, wrapped plates in them when moving, gift wrapping, painting.

It depends in the country you are.

If you want to show of your skills, why not write an article about it. This way you don't publish company property (maybe only snippets of code) and the viewer can read your reasons on why you made certain decisions.

But do not do this without consent of the company. If the company likes it, you could even start your article something along the lines of "here at %company% we like to write good code...". Than it is a win-win. I see this a lot on sites like medium.com

Does this have anything to do with the whole email thing from the American military? According to the financial times, there are about 117.000 emails send to .ML addresses instead of .MIL..

Nice. Instantly bought the adfree version.

Can't answer it but isn't the whole thing backed up (synced) to other instances? If I'm browsing lemmy.world community on my lemm.ee account, I'm actually only fetching data from lemm.ee. Only downside is that if there is an instance started after the community got lost, it will not have that community synced.

That is brutal. 231 thousand Russian humans being killed for a dumb war just to try and grab some land.

Why not check online for each component for its max watt?

AMD FX8350 is 125W max Xeon E5645 is 80W max

Then the only difference is the motherboard, right?

And also, the Xeon has integrated graphics but the amd does not. If you will let the amd do a lot of things with video, it needs a video card or else the cpu will need to do all of that. On the other hand, if the machine main task is to for example render videos, an integrated GPU in the Cpu will not get you far either...

Memes in general. Some are probably funny but I have not seen those yet. Most are low effort or done by a 14 year old. Maybe I'm just getting to old..

That was a good read. Thanks for the link.

In addition what others have already said, in the Gmail search bar it can search for mails that have an attachment larger than x mb. I did that some time ago and there where a lot large mails that were not worth it to save on disk

But why? If Twitter is something he and his friends do not like it would be a better move to censor everything instead of pushing the users to other Twitter alternatives and spread the same message over there. Controlling is more valuable than pushing the users away.

I'm using a simple cheap usb switcher (Aten 2 x 4 USB 2.0 Switch). I have connected a mouse, keyboard, card reader. One machine is connect to the monitor via hdmi and the other via display port. I simply switch video via the buttons on the monitor. The third machine is a laptop that is not connected to the monitor.

A dedicated KVM would be a better option but I'm not willing to spend that much money.

Maybe woodworking? It can get dusty and you need some room but you can also make smaller things that don't need big power tools or a lot of room. Like miniature things.

Or computer programming. Create an app. Or do something fun like follow one of the coding challenges from the YouTube channel The Coding Train

Also all the tracking and analysis tools that are integrated in most ecommerce are huge. We made a website for a company that was really fast and snappy. Then they added all their tools and it turned into a slug.

One of the GTA games (I think it was 4) made you random drunk. No way to driving/walking/flying in a straight line.

I wonder if it has something to do with the framework you pick. There are probably frameworks that aim to be as stable as possible but lack the cutting edge.

  • make a boilerplate/starter project for something. For instance a java project that has a api so implement Swagger, json, some example endpoints, etc. That way, if I start a new project I don't have to first configure it all and think about what dependencies I need to implement.

Or one for css or Angular. Just implement the basic style for buttons, text, menu's etc and adjust where needed. A bit like Bootstrap but then more basic

  • make a private website where combine all your (future) tools/projects. Like some calculate (km to miles, whatever), some links to other projects, a page to your servers/services (kodi, plex, sabnzbd, etc)

Just send them all the bills you have because "this acacemic year, you are implementing a You Pay For Me Policy".

That was an awesome game. I remember playing it with my friends and if you hit the top 10, we would write our name with 'the best'.

It also had a level editor. I created one with a lot of jumps.

Good times!

I need to stay awake some time during the night to feed the baby or support my wife doing it. I always fight against the sleep and that is when the pre-sleep dreams are really getting weird. What is happening a lot is that I read something and half way the sentence I fall half asleep and at that point, my mind completes the sentence(s) with the weirdest things.

What I do is two things

  • Go to the All view and block each community that has memes.
  • subscribe to commutes that you like.

This ways, all your views are meme-free.

Bonus tip for finding new commuties: create a new account and go to your All view. Every post you see, check if you like the community. If you like it, subscribe to it on your normal account and then block it on your new account. The new account works kind of like check off system. Each community that you made a decision on (subscribe or don't care) will no longer be visible on the new account. This way, other communities that are smaller will also be revealed.

Android, Windows and macos all have different ways to make money.

Windows: sell windows as a product. Mac: sell hardware Android: use Google services too gain data and sell ads. Try to make the os as widly spread as possible.

Should be something like the system that torrents use: each instance provides the video at the same time to the same user. Some instance give 100kb/s and another 900 kb/s. In the end, the user streams the video with 1000kb/s

There are webshops for businesses. I know most fashion brands have those business to business sites but it is invite only.

That is a nice solution. There are also these giant mouse pads that can cover most of the desk. They are awesome.

"I can't get any joy from the work anymore. I used to get joy from it. Don't get me wrong, the colleagues are nice and all"

Probably most of your colleagues will agree with you and nobody gets offended.

I used to do it when phones had smaller touch screens. Now I type with both thumbs. That is a lot faster than swiping with one finger
