This is all fine and well, but am I the only one a bit concerned about how NexusMods is practically a monopoly in the modding scene? Why does literally every modder have to use a rate-limiting host as a platform, especially when Github exists?

Lol. Remember when W10 was to be the "final" one?

Not a single solid reason given in this unhinged rent except a mention of that affiliate link fiasco, which even they themselves agree was a major fuckup.

All BAT and crypto stuff are completely opt-in and it barely takes a few clicks to set the browser to never let you see that side of it again. As for Brendan's political affiliations, most users couldn't care less. He might as well be a furry flat-earther but if the product is good, it is good. Stop acting like you're sure all the things you use throughout the day aren't made by people with doubtful leanings.

I personally don't use Brave on desktop, Firefox is good enough; but it is the best option on Android currently since Bromite is almost always a Chromium version behind whatever is current.

Edit: Just learnt that I was wrong in my perception of what "furry" meant. Reading the replies objecting to that reference made me dig a bit deeper and realise that it's just a type of fandom, and not some sex-deviant cult that pop media made me believe. Sorry for the wrong example.

Yeah we all know this "security feature" is to root out ReVanced and other mod users.

DRM cracking is treated as a sport by the Scene. They don't actually care about pirate philosophies and such, only the challenge.

TL;DR

Larian/BG3 is bold enough to make player choices matter to the extent that several paths and entire storylines in the game get locked out based on your decisions. Bethesda (and literally any other developer) is not. They'd rather you not miss everything they've taken the effort of building in the game.

Text is fine but you can't really expect the Fediverse to serve heavy media at a large scale

Most people don't usually torrent on mobile data, and if they do it's understandable that they can't be expected to give back. It's fine, maybe in the future when you get broadband you can start seeding back.

Most people used Twitter and Facebook not as a social network but as a pastime. They didn't create or post anything, but simply lurked and browsed random stuff on the platform to amuse themselves and keep up with trends. The random content in feeds that articles like these complain about were rather the main feature of those platforms for many. And this is a feature Mastodon fails to provide for its own good.

I highly doubt the Indian military was using Windows for mission-critical equipment or systems any way. This news is about the normal bureaucracy using Linux, which is not new in India's case.

I abhor Apple and exclusively only use Android, but this is some bullshit. Most apps on Andoid tablets are just crude transformations of their original phone apps, while generally on iPad the apps are at least made for the platform. Not to mention iPads are more powerful hardware-wise than any Android tablet ever made. Tablets are a segment where Apple does not lose, the closest competition is probably Microsoft Surface which is just as pricey, if not more.

I wish Ars handed over coverage of Android to a person who wasn't this unabashedly hostile against it and Google. These same people claim "revolutionary" changes when Apple so much as modifies one bit of the iPhone's layout.

How far would you go to conform for something as mundane as chat bubble colors? How soulless will your life have to be to demand something like this?

LOL, Trump's shooter was unironically white and registered Republican.

The difficulty is not in using it, the difficulty is having people use it. Social network platforms matter jack shit when the ones you want to actually follow aren't on it.

Mods are dead

It's garnering popular hate just as EFF themselves predicted, but the case they made in their original article is absolutely valid.

It's unfortunate that the "victim" in this case turned out to be KF that everyone would rightfully be glad to be rid of; their despicable nature and the hostility they have cultivated buries away the main concern the article was trying to highlight - ISPs should not be the ones passing judgement on which website gets to live. That power should only reside with government authorities, and that too with strong checks and balances. This is setting a horrible precedent that will come to bite you back in the ass, I wish people would look past the banned site just this once and notice what the hell they are booing against.

I agree thoroughly. The main reason me, you, and the majority of people moved here was to catch a break from the barrage of monotonic, brain-rotting content on mainstream platforms.

That means spending time and money on developing such a system, which means increasing costs in the short term.. which is kryptonite for current-day CEOs

All these features you get much better using actual E2E-encrypted chat apps like Signal or WhatsApp like the rest of the world.

The best of them all, αcτµαlly pδrταblε εxεcµταblε.

Build once, run natively on literally any PC OS including Windows and MacOS!

Now, depending on people that anti-alcohol protection might be an advantage or drawback.

Yup. Please, please don't drink too much regardless of how drunk or not it gets you. Alcohol is never good for your body.

Too late, Unity ain't getting that lost trust back up anytime soon.

It's because Apple users are high-grade consoomers who click and engage with a lot more ads on average than Android users.

Of course it's worth it to get hands on the most succulent customer segment out there.

No, though it is weird that you feel like you should ask such nonsensical questions in public forums.

It may sound tacky but the actual conventional way of getting out of this dark place is to just be outside, with people. Turn off your computer, put down your phone, stop isolating yourself and just go out sightseeing somewhere (ideally with a group of people).

If you're in India you know the weather hasn't been better, it's the best time for a nice trek to Kodai or Ooty or Munnar or wherever.

All the biggest tech/IT consulting firms that used to hire engineering college freshers by the millions each year have declared they either won't be recruiting at all this month, or will only be recruiting for senior positions. If AI were to wipe out humanity it'll probably be through unemployment-related poverty thanks to our incompetent policymakers.

The legendary RDR2

The rich will fight with all they have to keep their investments secure and rent/prices for common people soaring. They will not relent till the bubble bursts, if it ever will. But pop society has tried to "fight" them for centuries, not realizing it is a futile battle and that social class hierarchy is not something humanity can live without.

So instead of fighting those monsters, society needs to assume their inhumanity as natural and try to work around it, instead of bickering about it. The government should take steps to make socially positive initiatives more lucrative for investment and allow gradual reshaping of their portfolios over time from overvalued things like real estate and pop media to better things like green tech and accessible healthcare.

I advise Pichai to suck my dick

It's my dream that AI takes over middle management and bureaucracy as a whole, and we get rid of all the societal evils that come from corrupt or incompetent management in both - governments and companies. Imagine if every single working person had zero ambiguity in their jobs and complete clarity on when they have to work, and on what. The world would be so much happier!

Honestly, for Sci-hub I think it's just that Elbakyan got tired of maintaining and updating it constantly. That "waiting for court results" part was just an excuse, just because Indian law enforcement is too unequipped to go after pirates doesn't mean the country magically became lax on IP law. There was no good chance she could've won the dismissal plea.

The administrative offices in my little bro's college also use HP Omen laptops for some reason. It was a treat watching boomers one-finger-type on RGB keyboards 😂

PSA, FitGirl and Dodi setups do fail during installations on Proton and Lutris Wine, but if you were to run them using vanilla Wine they (generally) work perfectly. Just open a terminal in the downloaded folder and enter wine ./setup.exe. Just make sure you set the correct installation folder (e.g. Z:/home/username/games)

Update: the latest FitGirl setup for Cyberpunk 2077 didn't work on either

Who cracked or repacked it doesn't make a difference, how much the game itself supports Linux does.

I don't think it's the best but in such cases, I personally take the minimalist approach.

Keep all communications on official channels, and only send precise and to-the-point messages with as much brevity as possible (of course, make sure that your points are clear and that you are responding to their main queries as well). Make it as if they're talking to an intelligent robot.

where I live using “please” (मेहरबानी) is used often.

Bro where tf are you living 😂

I'm Indian too and have never come across anyone unironically using that word in daily conversations

It'd be better if they went after literally every other AI corp than Meta in this case. Meta is the only one that's ironically releasing open-source models and leading the way for open-source LLMs. I don't want Meta to stop doing this.
