404 media seems to be doing good work.

Nice of these AI companies to add opt out capability after they’ve trained their models on all available data.

Ah yes, the single player MMO.

There are 2.5 million franchises of Monolith Burger in Space Quest lore! https://spacequest.fandom.com/wiki/Monolith_Burger

Here is a large language model generated summary:

"Tiny Habits: The Small Changes That Change Everything" by BJ Fogg explores how small behavioral changes can lead to significant transformations in one's life. Fogg, a behavior scientist, introduces a method for creating lasting habits by making them tiny and easy to accomplish.

Key Points:

  1. Behavior Model:

    • B = MAP: Behavior (B) happens when Motivation (M), Ability (A), and a Prompt (P) converge at the same moment. To change behavior, adjust these three elements.
  2. Tiny Habit Recipe:

    • Identify a tiny behavior you want to incorporate into your routine.
    • Attach this new behavior to an existing routine (Anchor).
    • Celebrate immediately after doing the behavior to create positive reinforcement.
  3. Focus on Small Changes:

    • Instead of making drastic changes, Fogg advocates for starting with tiny, manageable actions. Over time, these small actions accumulate and lead to significant changes.
  4. Celebration:

    • A crucial part of the Tiny Habits method is celebrating your success, no matter how small. This positive reinforcement encourages repetition and helps solidify the new habit.
  5. Ability and Simplicity:

    • Simplifying the desired behavior increases the likelihood of success. If something feels too difficult, break it down into even smaller steps.
  6. Motivation:

    • While motivation can fluctuate, designing tiny habits that fit easily into your routine helps ensure consistency, regardless of your motivation levels.
  7. Behavior Design:

    • Fogg provides a systematic approach to designing behaviors that stick, emphasizing experimentation and iteration to find what works best for the individual.

By focusing on tiny, achievable changes and celebrating small wins, Fogg's method aims to make habit formation easier and more sustainable.

Redditor for over a dozen years, this was the final nail for me. Lemmy is feeling like the good old days. Memmy for Lemmy is pretty great. The fediverse has its growing pains but in a few years I hope the enshittification will be a thing of the past.

Sharing and/or selling that data to third parties that do have personally identifiable information… now they know everything about your porn habits et al., that data is more easily leaked the wider it’s spread, you’re more easily doxxed/blackmailed, etc.

I understand your concern based on how corporations tend to run these days, but this is a lot of speculation. It’s good to be skeptical though.

My guess is that they want to use a single account across more services unrelated to GOG, akin to the way google SSO works for gmail, YouTube, drive, etc. If the account is owned by a subsidiary that might not be possible for other subsidiaries to use the same account per data regulation rules.

Does it support containers and sync settings between installs on multiple systems? If so I’m in without hesitation.

I had to stop playing Half Life Alyx when it got to the dark flashlight bit with zombies jumping out at you. Nearly gave me a heart attack. Definitely couldn’t handle it IRL. edit: autocorrect

For $40 more I agree. I got the 64gb version when it came out and upgraded the SSD immediately. A 1tb 2230 SSD is $75.

Not much, u?

Yes, and the intergenerational trauma goes back to time immemorial. Healing my own trauma has made me recognize how absolutely ubiquitous it is. I feel called to do what I can to help shift things for others, seems to me to be the thing this world needs most.

I had a waterproof bath time book as a child with Bert and Ernie in it… “Rubber duckie, you’re the one… you make bath time so much fun!”

This hit so hard and has me in search of lost time. Thank you 💜

If it had a split screen view on iPad, posts on a side bar and content on the main screen, I would be so happy.

The second reason for me was advertising inside Plex, and generally a UI focused on what they want me to see instead of what I want to do. Jellyfin isn’t a commercial product so it won’t get enshittified over time.

Collecting the data is necessary for the functionality of the site. Lemmy collects that same data. Sharing that data with third parties and potential ramifications of that is the issue I’m raising.

Sodium hydroxyde is lye, calcium hydroxide is lime. Not sure how that relates to water glassing, I’ve never heard of it.

I love this idea. I feel like it would give Lemmy some of the old forum magic of long historical threads.

Imagine every time a repost happens the comments are additive instead of separate. It would keep posts and conversations alive to have them continue to surface and be upvoted anew.

I really think you’re into something brilliant.

Wifi inside the cage?

I actually played it with my son coop a decade ago when he was quite young, he’d sit in my lap and we’d each have one hand on the controller. We played it through that way and had a blast. I remember him being quite scared at some points, and the game was an emotional rollercoaster, but we very much enjoyed playing it together and I could see it working as a coop game.

A friend of mine in his 60s has been on a prescribed benzodiazapine since he was a child. He is tapering a microgram per day and struggling with the withdrawal symptoms. It’s going to take him several years at this rate but when he lowers by more it’s debilitating.

Reiverr looks great, I can’t wait to try it out. Thanks for sharing.

But product make money… and we want money now.

I had such a frustrating time getting onto that site and trying to figure out their karma system after I made it in. Nothing I actually wanted to read or listen to was available until you reached a certain level of upload. I downloaded all the free leech stuff but nobody downloaded it from me. It was a huge waste of time and I gave up eventually.

Thanks. Just set it up on one of my computers. I’ll be doing the rest as time allows. There’s a lot I love about it already, familiar but with better defaults, and including search engines like SearXNG. I hope enough of us can switch and send a message to Mozilla, though that feels very unlikely to stop the enshittification.

Nope, I think our only hope is the EU forcing more openness on the platform. Thankfully there are safari addons now, they’re useful though limited. I just wish we had Firefox and its extension library like android does now.

I’ve been enjoying the nostalgia with vanilla daggerfall unity for the past week, having played daggerfall a ton as a child when it originally released. It works beautifully. These mods are very impressive and I may give them a whirl once things stabilize from the big rush of interest with the 1.0 stable release.

You don’t want a swap file on the SD card as excessive writes will kill it rather quickly.

I probably wouldn’t. He said he wants to see what his life is like without it.

If you’re only accessing the server remotely via Tailscale and no ports are open, is it necessary to have the server on its own isolated VLAN? I like accessing my server locally most of the time and via Tailscale when I’m out and about.

Nope, but I did move from Waze to Google Maps and now settled on Apple Maps because of increasing enshittification and ad bloat.

I’ve got 3 or 4 characters left to beat on Danger 5 before I can finally set it down forever and play something else!
