Oh yeah, Vancouver really gives northern Siberia a run for its money during the winter. Human beings just aren’t built to survive one or two days of snow every couple years. Best you stay far away and live somewhere pleasant, like rural Texas.

Ah yes, put your problem out in the internet, then get befuddled when people suggest solutions. Classic.

I thought you had to refer to a person by their old name for that to be the case, not just mention the existence of a former name. I could be wrong though.

The Windows driver. If you’re using Windows, you’ve already declared that you’re okay with this kind of thing. This whole thread is people pissed about dress code violations at an orgy.

We’re “free speech” except these first 4 categories we could name off the top of our heads. There will never be any reason to add to this list. Adding to that list wouldn’t be “free speech”!

It should always be possible to scrape and make a feed. I use this at the moment: https://github.com/trashhalo/reddit-rss

He was pretty clear through that whole video that he didn’t know what he was doing. That video was purely for entertainment, and it was obvious from the first minute.

Kernels have gotten better. Professional tools have gotten better. Everything on Linux has gotten better. Compilers and drivers too.

Everything else is built by the lowest bidder and is absolute garbage. And unfortunately, it’s what most people interact with all day long.

There’s a paper from like 30 years ago about how you can never verify an executable because you don’t know that your compiler isn’t doing something nefarious. And if you do know that somehow, you don’t know it about it’s compiler, and so on. Scary a stuff.

Because we need more than one browser engine in the world, or Google will own the internet.

This is how I treated Reddit too. And Twitter. And everything else. I have two modes; public and private. And private is private; strong encryption and local storage. Having some middle ground is a recipe for disaster.

You go first.

Well, what else are you gonna do? ES is proven and battle tested.

Well why didn’t you say we get cool trinkets and shiny doodads?! That’s totally worth handing control over the entire internet to a single corporation.

Then nearly every industry is state affiliated.

I’ve been self-hosting Matrix for years and it’s been amazing.

Is 2018 maybe when TPM modules started going on every motherboard?

But your example just referred to someone by their old name. Not saying you’re wrong, but that’s a terrible example. Haha

Better example would be: Friend says, “Hey John, how are you! Remember when you used to go by Jim? Boy, those were crazy times back then.”

Is that deadnaming?

EDIT: my bad. Just re-read the OP post and your example is dead on. For some reason I had it different in my head. Never mind!

They will add this to the long list of things they patch out. But at some point, maintaining these patches is going to be more work than they can handle.

About that last sentence though…

If you uninstall Steam or Firefox, it can absolutely be gigs, just FYI. Very nice tool to have.

Using a different tool is not abandoning the problem.

And they just re-skin Chrome, so you are helping Google own the internet anyway. Use Firefox or Safari.

The biggest irony is that with Emerald Boy 100% preoccupied with Twitter, his other companies are flourishing.

Well then, good news! Sodium ion is in production.

Borg is basically the gold standard.

Another kind of silly benefit is that distros without their own graphical package manager can use the gnome one with Flathub. I actually started installing NixOS on my family’s computers, because I can start from a common config and have everything up and running quickly. Plus it’s super stable. And with Flatpak, they can install software after I’m gone without editing the config. It’s kinda like my config is the base system, and then they can layer on top.

People wanna be able to drive like assholes.

Yeah, that’s why I didn’t like it. I just couldn’t buy the premise that Oppenheimer was some kind of martyr because he got his security clearance revoked and couldn’t use a free house anymore. The producers had to go out of their way to ignore an interesting story and focus on boring hearings and unimportant nonsense.

That’s what I do. Works great. Or don’t pay and don’t use it. Crazy talk, I know!

The new Rust library is really solid. Once things start moving to that instead of rolling their own, it will get a lot more smooth.

Gotta be a way for folks to get paid. Most of the folks I watch on YouTube do it for a living.

They said a faster one was unlikely. This isn't faster, so, they were the best kind of correct, unfortunately. Are you able to return yours, by chance?

Care to hook me up with that css?

Well duh. We should invest more in lots of things.

No, just new versions.

And it also couldn’t be installed on any phone.

That’s it! Thanks!

You absolutely don’t have to. They will support you no matter what distro you have. All their custom bits are in the AUR and Nix, for example.
