Cheers - guess there will a 60fps patch for emu soon

You also don’t get to enjoy many of the PSVR 2’s vaunted box features — HDR, headset feedback, and eye tracking are all disabled. So are the adaptive triggers and haptic feedback (not including rumble) on the controllers.

I had this argument with a boomer HR consultant and she just doubled down, even though I explained that neither I nor my colleagues, give two hoots about fussball or team building. Our position is a resounding "fuck you pay me" but oh no - boomer knows best.

I dunno about winning. Lemmy user count is through the roof. And Im one of the people who left when they pulled the API nonsense. The way they gaslit and lied to the Apollo dev was just unacceptable. Couldn't participate there after that.

This is a weird phenomenon. Feels a bit like how focusing on "welfare queens" / "dole bludgers" can pave the way for similar privacy erosion (and welfare cuts) even though its a tiny percentage of the people. Seems a short hop away from "if you've got nothing to hide...."

In Norway you don't break stride as a pedestrian, so any number above 0 seconds is unusual at a zebra crossing. There's always this "oops I'm not in Norway anymore" moment i have as i consider trying the same shit in other countries.

Yes. Adam something pointed this out two years ago: https://youtu.be/CQJgFh_e01g

There is a really interesting dev discussion on this topic here: https://github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/3033

Ok the memes are really quite good over here in lemmy land

Okay, sure—if you check the Steam Hardware Survey, Linux machines make up only a bit above 1% of all Steam users. That number's set to rise soon, though.

Saved you a click.

Kid gets sick of being told to clean his room and runs away from home, but it's more difficult than he anticipates. In desperation, he reaches out to his estranged relatives for help, which just makes his dad even more mad.

Bit of a wall of text, but I figure it does more good than harm to have this in the comments with links:

The Kids Online Safety Act would increase surveillance and restrict access to information under the guise of protecting children online. KOSA would put the tools of censorship in the hands of state attorneys general. It would greatly endanger the rights and safety of young people online. KOSA’s burdens will affect adults, too, who will likely face hurdles, like age verification, to access legal content online as a result of the bill. TELL CONGRESS: OPPOSE THE KIDS ONLINE SAFETY ACT

The STOP CSAM Act would put security and free speech at risk by potentially making it a crime to offer encryption. The law would undermine digital security for all internet users, impacting private messaging and email app providers, social media platforms, cloud storage providers, and many other internet intermediaries and online services. TELL CONGRESS NOT TO OUTLAW ENCRYPTED APPS

The EARN IT Act would likely mandate scanning of messages and other files similar to the plan that Apple wisely walked away from last year. Digital rights supporters sent more than 200,000 messages to Congress to kill earlier versions of this bill. We’ve beaten it twice before, and we can do it again. We need your support to stop the EARN IT Act one more time. PROTECT OUR PRIVACY—STOP "EARN IT"

The RESTRICT Act would set the stage for a restriction on the use of TikTok, but could also criminalize common practices like using a VPN or side-loading to install a prohibited app. There are legitimate data privacy concerns about social media platforms, but this bill is a distraction from real progress on privacy. TELL CONGRESS: DON'T PASS THE RESTRICT ACT

The Cooper Davis Act would turn messaging services, social media companies, and even cloud providers into Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) informants. The bill is likely to result in companies sweeping up innocent conversations, including discussions about past drug use or treatment. This bill contains no warrant requirement, no required notice, and limited user protections., andIt deserves to be defeated on the Senate floor. TELL CONGRESS: Don't turn messaging services into DEA informants

I still remember being skeptical af to the idea that I would give them money and all I got was a digital promise that they would look after my copy of half life and Cs. Years lateds, I've lost or destroyed almost all my physical media, but still have that steam account.

I like sync. But I also like that there are so many different answers here. Seems to bode well for the fediverse.

I... Don't? But I've used it since 3.11. It's incredibly usable software, when it works. Switched recently because even I have my limits - that win11 recall even made it as an idea at the table is enough to make me jump ship. The ads in win10 pushed me to the limit, but recall is insane unless they're literally gonna give away free hardware and software. I paid for that damn computer and bought a license - wtf. It's not Microsofts hardware to datamine or put ads on. Paid for things with ads in them that also keylog and screen scrape and datamine can fuck all the way off.

Saw the netbsd video posted on lemmy recently and dude said he was offended at the lack autonomy he had over his own hardware in ms and I kind of get it now.

Board game meetups and clubs work great

Mihon is a great comic reader that connects to my Komga server - it's the reason I got into android. Launch box is a pretty cool front end for roms, but I tend to not use it now that I have a dedicated retro handheld.

Oh and Revanced, of course. I can't see myself going back to ios.

I've seen many articles, comments and videos praising mint for being friendly to users coming from windows. It looks nice and I've been impressed by the friendliness and helpfulness of their forums - if I switched on my laptop I would try mint first.

Could replace the usernames with UUIDs, and keep the username-UUID map back on the source instance? Then you get an audit trail, but not associated with user identity. There's also no guarantee that people don't use bob_jones as their username, and this is Personally Identifiable Information, which brings up some GDPR stuff too.

i mean i can't tell where to place a pixel to help. Haven't done this before

if the music is older, and not from the US, it's often not on spotify. Versions matter too - even for some mainstream bands their B sides/acoustic/live versions just aren't on spotify or youtube. Album metadata for spotify is garbage too - it just isn't an adequate replacement for a record collection.

I do use a spotify subscription, but for me it's a tool for playlist generation and music discovery.

Also audio quality, as others have mentioned.

That was an excellent thing to start my day with - cheers. I'm probably more like OP, but I like this perspective and am trying to move towards it. One habit that has helped is swapping phone time for book time. Even if there is still some phone time, any book time is a win: I learn stuff from sources I can trust, and there are no ads.

I think this is the use case for Kodi, if you have local media. If you also want multiple device sync without hassle, then Plex, but this is an online account. I hear good things about Jellyfin, which is a FOSS alternative to Plex.

I don't see the J or the Lemmy

Cool article though - thanks for sharing. I wanna read thst Fitzgerald book now.

Edit: book was legit. First one is called Nailed and it goes through 10 myths about historical jesus. Absolutely fascinating.

Just did a timeshift then upgraded and it went perfectly. Had to disable a ppa but the upgrader even did that for me.

I only recently came over from Windows and am very impressed - most Windows upgrades go less smoothly than this.

Well that was an excellent, nuanced, comment - cheers. I have seen examples supporting OPs observation, but I'm too new to know if this is a change.

Any thoughts on the "federated community" discussion? I find both positions to have merit, but I think I'm leaning towards community aggregation as an option.

New vegas?

I wasnt thrilled about upgrading to win11 - it adds an irritating layer of stuff that I didnt want or need. The ads and telemetry bugged me too. I was probably going to reluctantly upgrade at some point though.

But then recall was announced and I realised how much worse it could get. Been really happy with the switch to Linux.

I can see the use case, and that some people might find this useful (not to mention many agencies and ad companies). But enough was enough, for me at least. Linux Mint rocks. Can't see myself going back to Windows.

Somebody might also have a case of mondayitis.

Glad to see I'm not the only with a spire habit that can't be kicked.

Me too I guess. I can see it if I really try, but it seems a stretch.
