This is your standard Five Finger Nug Punch packaging. In all seriousness if this post is satire, well done, it made me laugh really hard.

If this post is not satire, oh boy, please don't smoke that.

Sooo many 8ers handed over in cigarette cellophane in high school. puke

I wasn't sure if mentioning brands felt too spammy or not. This vape is by Information Entropy in Michigan

A lot of great responses here already. I wanted to offer a few thoughts.

What does quality mean to you when it comes to concentrates? For me, I search for solventless rosins that try to capture the flavor and essence of the strain/plant being used.

Concentrate quality is typically determined by:

  1. Input material - What did they use to make the concentrate? Cured nugs, trim, whole plants? As they say, “Fire in = fire out”

  2. Extraction method - Do they use some type of solvent (e.g. butane) to create the concentrate? Or is it solventless, and maybe created via ice water hash or press methods.

Comparing outputs:

  • Distillate: While typically the most potent and used in vape carts, I’d generally say anything with distillate will be the least representative of the original material used (no taste), and something I try to avoid. Distillate = headaches, for me.

  • Live / Cured Resin: Resin is extracted with solvents, and retains more of the plant’s profile of terpenes and flavonoids. A great budget concentrate option. This is typically where you'll find shatters, waxes, budders/badders, crumble, sugar, etc.

  • Live / Cured Rosin: Then we have Live Rosin which is extracted in a solventless method, and to me, is the best concentrate available. Full of flavor and character that is representative of the original plant/strain used. I've seen rosin come in shatter (fresh press), sauce, and badder-y variants.

EDIT: Also if texture can be an issue, I know people who swear by the Hot Knife by Puffco: https://www.puffco.com/products/the-puffco-hot-knife

Great question. In the process of making rosin, first you create Ice Water Hash to separate the trichome gland heads. Then there are typically 2 ways to process this Ice Water Hash:

  1. Fresh press: The gland heads are put into a mesh pouch and then squeezed at high pressures and low heats. People will consume this fresh press without further processing.
  2. Cold cure: Cold Cure rosin is fresh press that has been cured and whipped into a badder-y consistency.

You used the term "live resin" which is in a different realm than rosin. Resin = made with solvents. Rosin = solventless

  • Distillate: While typically the most potent and used in vape carts, I’d generally say anything with distillate will be the least representative of the original material used (no taste), and something I try to avoid. Distillate = headaches, for me.

710 upside down is OIL! Basically the 420 for dabbing/concentrates

Very cool, thank you for sharing the journey and pics. I'd smoke that!

Buncha cunts. Thank you, I'll keep posting for ya 🫡

Hell yeah, Nightmare Cookies is a fitting name.

To me, the legal market is looking amazing these days. If you go to the right dispensaries and buy from the right growers/processors, quality and price are very reasonable. I don't find availability to be an issue; there's about 3 dispensaries I prefer to go to, out of maybe 40 I could go to within a half hour drive.

As an example, today I got this rosin gram for $30, and a half oz of Sherb Cream Pie flower for $75. In my recent experience, quality concentrates can range from $30-$60 a gram, and quality flower can range from $50-100 a half oz.

These look really helpful, thanks for sharing. EDIT: Just ordered em!

Came to the comments to make sure Mike Patton was mentioned! One my favorite vocalists, with an incredible range of unique vocal styles across so many musical outfits: Mr. Bungle, Faith No More, Fantômas, Tomahawk, Peeping Tom, etc.

No worries, happy to answer.

  • For the banger, I've been using a small Pyrex glass dish, with another dish of the same size to serve as a lid when I'm not soaking. I'm able to soak it about a dozen times before the iso gets too dirty and I replace it. I've never had a banger that required a soak after each use, but it's so worth it because the dabs taste incredible.
  • For the bong, I just dump epsom salt + iso into it and make sure they get into all the chambers, then let it soak

EDIT: Rinsing + shaking with super hot water afterwards is a must.

I'm such a huge fan of that creamy banana profile. I first encountered it through the Chiquita Banana strain in CA. Enjoy it man, looks tasty

Bonus pic: The last (giant) dab of the Mackinaw OG, a Michigan delicacy. Very pine-y and almost smells like cologne.

It definitely has some sweet and fruity notes. It’s a complex smelling/tasting bud!

I'm a believer. Would love to see pics when she's cured!

Completely understandable and reasonable

I’m grateful for how fast the rosin scene has progressed around here. And I hear you, I’ve had my fair share of lighter rosins. Sometimes that seems to indicate more muted flavor, but not always!

Because today is "107" for you guys? lol

I figured, I was messing around. Maybe one day!

Beautiful! What strain is she?

Happy birthday brother! Enjoy those beautiful products

We're rooting for you over here in Michigan!

I dream for the day when terp-o-vision can exist. Any rosin-focused community would reek from an entire fediverse away

I dab (vaporize) it on what's called a "terp slurper." Here's a previous post of mine that shows the piece on the right: https://lemmy.world/post/913935

Dabbing concentrates is about heat control and retention. There are less cumbersome options, like Puffco's line of products.

That’s a great question. According to Weedmaps, it does look like Obama Kush may have originated in MI:

“Obama Kush, like many strains, has mysterious origins. Online sources think Michigan’s Superior Genetics may have crossed a Skunk hybrid mother plant with an Afghani x OG Kush dad to get Obama Kush.”

I wish there was a book or resource that better outlined geographic origins of strains. I know of the Pure Michigan, Yooper Cookies, Paul Bunyan (which is a cross of the last 2)

Runtz came from LA but Michigan folks go crazy for it.

Huh, now that you mention it, the math doesn't seem to really add up lol. I assumed the "total" number was THC + all cannibinoids, maybe they're measuring others not listed. I'm assuming the rest of the composition (the final 16.8% beyond 83.2% total cannibinoids) is plant byproduct like waxes, maybe flavonoids.

But yeah, I'm generally staring at that terpene chart for my own purchase decisions!

Agreed, disposables are great for the sake of convenience. I do have a nice 510 battery, but I still prefer to dab rosin or smoke flower!

What specific battery options would you recommend?

I'll take the uhhhh... Baby Poop OG cold cure.

What's your preferred rosin consistency/form? As much as I love the freshness and flavor of fresh press, I find that shatter-y consistency to be 1) hard to maintain in storage, 2) hard to handle when trying to scoop a dab. Personally I prefer the cold cured batter/badder or sauce.

Lookin pretty! That’s a great deal for the Unicorn Poop. How does the Banana Bliss taste?

Also god damn, can’t believe you snagged the coveted legit Cali. Props. Looks like a quality batch

I'd love to come explore the Canadian weed scene. Any suggestions on where to explore?

Glad it was helpful. From what I understand, yep, most diamonds are live resin and made with solvents. Solventless diamonds do exist though.

That's quite a bucket! Cheers!

That's a hell of a deal, cheers

The Zealousy is incredibly gassy, while the Starburst is citrus-y with notes of hops/floral.

Also for anyone who's interested, I'm trying to kick off the c/Michigantrees community for all Michigent refugees: https://lemmy.world/c/michigantrees

Hell yea, enjoy it!

Love seeing some rosin! How does it taste?

Thanks! I just let em soak until they're clean. 91% Iso soak for the dab rig, and iso + epsom salt for the bong
